Jessie J on the ‘pain and sadness’ of being infertile

In her recent concert in London, singer Jessie J opened up about her fertility issues and the "pain and sadness" she has been feeling the past few years. She then performed "Four Letter Word"---a track from her new album "R.O.S.E." that hopes to inspire people when things "get really hard." "I was told four years ago that I can't ever have children," she told the crowd at the Royal Albert Hall. But Jessie's not asking for sympathy; she just hopes to remind other people going through similar situations that they're not alone. "I'm one of millions of women and men that have gone through this and will go through this," said the "Domino" singer. "If you have ever experienced ...Keep on reading: Jessie J on the ‘pain and sadness’ of being infertile.....»»

Hanson, the kings of ‘MMMBop,’ turn to orchestras — a review

Hanson, "String Theory" (3CG Records) The Hanson boys have done everything in their power to get you to listen beyond "MMMBop." They've put out solid new music, live CDs, Christmas albums --- OK, lots of Christmas albums --- greatest hits collections, and even covers of songs by U2 and Radiohead. Now they've gone uptown --- they've gone orchestral. The 23-track double album, "String Theory," finds Isaac, Taylor and Zac Hanson reworking past songs and unreleased ones for swaths of strings, woodwinds, brass and percussion. One new song, "Siren Call," uses a full 46-piece orchestra. Snark if you must, but anything that gets Hanson's music a fresh listen is welcomed. Why this ta...Keep on reading: Hanson, the kings of ‘MMMBop,’ turn to orchestras — a review.....»»

Imagine Dragons deliver again but differently — a review

Imagine Dragons, "Origins" (Interscope/KIDinaKORNER) Do Imagine Dragons ever sleep? Not apparently. Less than a year and a half after releasing the double-platinum album "Evolve" and crisscrossing the globe on a 100-date tour, the band is back with a dozen new songs. Whew. "Origins" is supposed to be a sister companion to last year's monster "Evolve" and it's an intriguing follow-up, offering more textures and sonic experiments. If "Origins" was the band stalking around as an arena powerhouse, "Origins" is their quirky little sister, making cool stuff in her bedroom. Don't let the first single, "Natural," fool you. That slice of bombastic, fist-pumping bravado seems to in...Keep on reading: Imagine Dragons deliver again but differently — a review.....»»

PH concert finds musical bliss from Sam Smith’s romantic woes

Heartache and anguish; loneliness and longing; ruminations over love lost---these are some of the things Sam Smith had written about in the past and delved into for his second album, "The Thrill of It All." By the British crooner's own admission, his music, at times, can get "a little bit depressing."   Earlier this month, Sam brought his ongoing world tour of the same title to SM Mall of Asia Arena. And while the night's set did hew closely to such themes, never for a minute did the show feel bleak or overwrought.   Onstage, he delivered his songs---not as someone still inhabiting a space of sadness and self-pity---but as someone who can now look back...Keep on reading: PH concert finds musical bliss from Sam Smith’s romantic woes.....»»

Titled "Then It Fell Apart," the new book is described as "a journey into the dark heart of fame and the demons that lurk beneath the bling and bluster of celebrity lifestyle." The new volume is the sequel to "Porcelain," Moby's 2016 memoir in which he covered his life from 1989-1999, reflecting on the underground hip-hop and house music scenes of the late 1980s, the rise of rave culture and club kids, and a changing New York City. WATCH: Ariana Grande’s pet pig is the star of ‘Breathin’ video

Ariana Grande has released the latest visual for her album "Sweetener," this time setting the track "Breathin" to a three-minute video featuring her pet pig, Piggie Smalls. Compared to the highly produced and stylized videos for "No Tears Left to Cry" and "God is a Woman," this one is a low-tech ode to her tiny pig, who simply (and adorably) walks around on a bed for the full three-minute clip. Grande's fianc, Pete Davidson, previously talked about the couple's newly adopted pig in aninterviewwith Seth Meyers. Grande, he explained, "was like 'I want a pig' and then an hour later it was just there," later calling Piggy Smalls "a bougie pig." "I want it to get bi...Keep on reading: WATCH: Ariana Grande’s pet pig is the star of ‘Breathin’ video.....»»

‘American Dreamers’ presents huge talents, ambitions — a review

John Daversa Big Band featuring DACA artists, "American Dreamers: Voices of Hope, Music of Freedom" (BFM Jazz) As a certain recent Nobel laureate from Minnesota once said, we live in a political world. "American Dreamers" is a political album but also a collection of outstanding tracks that target both your senses and your conscience, presenting the musical talents of young people, often called "Dreamers", brought to the U.S. illegally as children and who now face an uncertain future as politicians are at a stalemate over their fate. The album includes testimonies from a handful of those young musicians --- Juan Carlos, an organist from Mexico; Saba, a pianist and singer from P...Keep on reading: ‘American Dreamers’ presents huge talents, ambitions — a review.....»»

Cher sings ABBA songs and the reason is sadly clear — a review

Cher, "Dancing Queen" (Warner Bros.) OK, everyone, settle down. We have a question. This is important. No, really. Can someone turn the music down? Ready? OK: Put your hand up if you've ever asked for an album of ABBA covers by Cher. Seriously, who wanted this? Anyone? Crickets? We thought so. Well, Cher, we guess, wanted it, maybe to buy a new yacht or fulfill some label requirement. Warner Bros. Records clearly did, too, if only to profit on the icon's appearance in "Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again." The whiff of a quick buck is so sour here that it taints the Swedish band's bubbly compositions. Like one song's chorus goes: "Gimmie! Gimmie! Gimmie!" Cher offers a very delib...Keep on reading: Cher sings ABBA songs and the reason is sadly clear — a review.....»»
