MANILA, Philippines – San Miguel is taking no chances with Terrence Romeo's sprained left foot, and it could lead to him missing his keenly awaited on-court reunion with ex-team TNT.  Beermen coach Leo Austria bared that the former three-time PBA scoring champion could miss two more games after sitting out ........»»

PBA: Romeo could miss another two games for SMB

Looks like Terrence Romeo will be out for San Miguel for a couple more games. In his season debut with the Beermen last Friday, Romeo exited early after suffering an apparent left ankle injury. The official diagnosis is he has a sprained ankle and he’s been advised to give it a rest for a week. The Beermen have two games set for Jan. 25 and Jan. 27 and it appears that the team plans to shut down Romeo at least through the first month of the new year. “Terrence, we don’t know yet dahil we don’t want to aggravate his injury,” head coach Leo Austria said. “I think he will miss two more games siguro,” he added. Romeo has no problem missing the two upcoming games though he is trying to get himself healthy quickly enough to rejoin the Beermen. Still, he’s in no rush in forcing his ankle. “One week rest siguro para sure, yun yung sinabi sakin nung nagpa-check ako. Titignan ko kung aabot sa next game,” Romeo said. “Pero di ko kasi pwedeng madaliin eh. Alam naman ni coach eh, susunod lang ako kung ano gusto nila. Susubukan ko lang na mas mapabilis para makatulong ako sa team,” Terrence added.   — Follow this writer on Twitter, @paullintag8.....»»

PBA: We had to weather the storm -- Lassiter

No lead is safe when you’re against Barangay Ginebra. The Gin Kings almost made San Miguel Beer pay Sunday at the Big Dome. Good thing, Marcio Lassiter was ready to play the firefighter's role in the Beermen's 99-91 escape over Ginebra to barge in the 2019 PBA Philippine Cup win column. SMB squandered a 23-point lead late in the third quarter and watched as the Gin Kings cut their deficit to 89-94 with 1:29 left in the game after LA Tenorio’s trey in Ginebra’s 17-5 scoring spurt. Then Lassiter came to the rescue for the Beermen. The SMB guard nailed a corner three to stop the Gin Kings at their track with 1:15 left. “I’m just lucky that on that play we just kept sharing the ball. So the ball found me on the corner and I was able to knock down,” said Lassiter. “That’s what we want, to keep sharing the ball and regardless of how, you know, we might miss some few shots but we kept sharing it good things happen.” Lassiter finished with 16 points with 4-of-6 shooting from beyond the arc. SMB went up 76-53 with 1:40 remaining in the third period off a three by Von Pessumal. The Beermen entered the payoff period with a comfortable 78-57 advantage. Or so they thought. “I felt like, we had a big lead originally, and we just need to keep our composure. Basketball is a game of runs so they made their run in the end. I give credit to them,” said Lassiter. “Ginebra’s a good team. You can’t discredit them. I give credit to them but we had to weather the storm and put some key stops and some key buckets in to get the win,” he added. The Beermen captured their first win in two games and pulled the Gin Kings down to 1-1.   --- Follow this writer on Twitter, @fromtheriles.....»»

Marian’s camera-comfy toddler now ready to be a big sis

At just 3 years old, Zia Dantes, daughter of show biz couple Marian Rivera and Dingdong Dantes, already seems quite comfortable being in front of big crowds. "Thank you, everyone. I will miss you!" the toddler told the press at her and Marian's recent launch as the brand endorsers of Nido Advanced Protectus 3+ preschool milk. After the TVC was shown on the screens, Zia requested---adorably so---for a replay of the video. And when her godmother actress Bettina Carlos, the event's host, asked Zia if she's now ready to be a "big sister," Zia replied with a quick and enthusiastic, "Yes!" Having seen Zia so bubbly and at ease around people, entertainment reporters couldn't help b...Keep on reading: Marian’s camera-comfy toddler now ready to be a big sis.....»»

Tesla will cut 7 percent of its workforce as it tries to lower prices and break out of the niche-car market to produce an electric vehicle that more people can afford. Tesla's cheapest model right now is the $44,000 Model 3, and it needs to broaden its customer base to survive. PBA: Wright and Phoenix finally showing maturity

ANTIPOLO CITY, Rizal — Phoenix badly wanted maturity to come with their growth as a team, especially after the Fuel Masters somehow botched a twie-to-beat edge as the no. 2 seed to end last season in teh 2018 PBA Governors’ Cup. Early in the 2019 Philippine Cup, it appears that the Fuel Masters have found some of that maturity and are using that to win close games in the All-Filipino. Two games into the new season, Phoenix already has two overtimes. The Fuel Masters won both, allowing them to take over first place so far. “Phoenix of the past would’ve lost that game,” Wright said of their overtime win against TNT Saturday at the Ynares Center here. “After Pogoy hit that shot to tie the game, we would’ve crumbled by then. But we stuck together, we’re becoming more experience and we’re becoming more of a veteran team,” he added. Another great sign for Phoenix has been the team’s conditioning. Also known as a pressing team, the Fuel Masters have shown great endurance despite playing back-to-back overtime games. Phoenix certainly looked like the fresher team during the extra five minutes in separate wins against Meralco and TNT. “I’m just happy we won, because like you said, back-to-back overtime games. We really have to dig down deep in those kind of situations. I’m happy that we looked like the more conditioned team,” Wright said. “We came off an overtime game so we’re much more experienced in that department than they are. Luckily they’re tired towards the end of the game and they were starting to miss their shots. That’s just credit to our strength and conditioning coaches and how we run our practices. We thought we’re in really good shape today,” he added.   — Follow this writer on Twitter, @paullintag8.....»»

Total lunar eclipse meets supermoon Sunday night

CAPE CANAVERAL, Florida --- Here comes a total lunar eclipse and supermoon, all wrapped into one. The moon, Earth, and sun will line up this weekend for the only total lunar eclipse this year and next. At the same time, the moon will be ever so closer to Earth and appear slightly bigger and brighter than usual --- a supermoon. "This one is particularly good," said Rice University astrophysicist Patrick Hartigan. "It not only is a supermoon and it's a total eclipse, but the total eclipse also lasts pretty long. It's about an hour." The whole eclipse starts Sunday night or early Monday, depending on location , and will take about three hours. It begins with the partial phas...Keep on reading: Total lunar eclipse meets supermoon Sunday night.....»»
