PBA: Last Manila Clasico for 2019?

There's still a lot going on in the 2019 PBA Governors' Cup but at least for this upcoming week, all eyes will be on defending champion Magnolia and Barangay Ginebra. Oh yes, it's Manila Clasico time. 2019 has spoiled us with Clasico games and this upcoming one might be our last for the year. This might be the best one too. The Hotshots famously ended Ginebra's two-year title reign last year, with Romeo Travis scoring an even 50 in the decisive Game 4 of the semifinals. Safe to say Justin Brownlee and the rest of the Gin Kings still remember that game. Here's the rest of the PBA schedule to look forward to this week:    Oct. 16 @ Ynares Antipolo 4:30 p.m. Columbian vs. NLEX 7: 00 p.m. Blackwater vs. Magnolia Oct. 18 @ Ynares Antipolo 4:30 p.m. Meralco vs. Blackwater 7:00 p.m. TNT vs. Alaska Oct. 20 @ the Big Dome 4:30 p.m. Columbian vs. San Miguel 6:45 p.m. Magnolia vs. Ginebra     — Follow this writer on Twitter, @paullintag8.....»»

Neymar plays only 12 minutes as Brazil held by Nigeria

By The Associated Press SINGAPORE (AP) — Neymar limped out of Brazil's friendly against Nigeria in Singapore on Sunday after only 12 minutes of play. The game ended 1-1, marking Brazil's fourth straight match without a win. The 27-year-old striker was replaced by midfielder Philippe Coutinho after feeling an injury in his left thigh. Brazil doctor Rodrigo Lasmar said Neymar stopped feeling any pain after the match and will go through more tests in France when he's back with his club Paris Saint-Germain. Nigeria midfielder Joe Aribo opened the scoring in the 35th minute after dribbling past Marquinhos in the penalty box. Brazil leveled in the 48th through a shot from midfielder Casemiro after he got to a rebound from a header that hit the bar. Neymar walked normally to the dressing room. He threw a shirt to fans and gave them a thumbs-up as he left. Neymar missed this year's Copa America because of a right ankle injury. He only returned to action two months later. The Brazilian also had a right foot injury in January playing for PSG. The problem in his fifth metatarsal kept him off the field for almost three months. Neymar struggled with injuries ahead of the 2018 World Cup in Russia which affected his performances in the tournament. The friendly in Singapore could have marked Neymar's rise to second all-time Brazil top goal scorer. He has 61 goals, one less than two-time World Cup winner Ronaldo. After lifting the Copa America title in July, Brazil drew 2-2 with Colombia, lost 1-0 to Peru and tied 1-1 with Senegal on Thursday. "This is a time in which we need to test (new players)," said Brazil defender Marquinhos. "But we have to find our pattern as soon as possible." Coach Tite had tried to use Neymar in midfield, replacing Coutinho, but the striker's injury made him quickly change plans......»»

Just 15, Coco Gauff tops Ostapenko for 1st WTA singles title

LINZ, Austria (AP) — Coco Gauff is still just 15. She also is already the owner of a WTA singles title. The American beat 2017 French Open champion Jelena Ostapenko 6-3, 1-6, 6-2 in the final of the Upper Austria Ladies tournament Sunday, making Gauff the youngest winner of a singles trophy on the WTA tour since 2004. "This is a special moment for me," Gauff said. And Gauff managed to do it after losing in the last round of qualifying, then moving into the main draw as a "lucky loser" when another player withdrew from the field. "I'm still overwhelmed and shocked," Gauff said, according to the WTA's website. "I guess it's crazy to say it's my first WTA title. This was definitely not on the calendar at the beginning of the year, because I didn't think I'd have a chance to get in, and now I'm the champion, so it's crazy." This week's run, which including a victory over Kiki Bertens for her initial top-10 win, was the latest impressive performance for Gauff, who is now expected to rise inside the top 75 when the new WTA rankings are released Monday. She was just 313th when Wimbledon began on July 1. That's where she really burst onto the scene as the youngest qualifier in tournament history, then beat five-time champion Venus Williams along the way to making it all the way to the fourth round. Gauff claimed her first WTA doubles title at Washington in August, pairing with Caty McNally, before getting to the third round in singles at the U.S. Open. Gauff is now the youngest woman to win a WTA singles championship since Nicole Vaidisova of the Czech Republic earned two by the age of 15 years, 5 months in 2004. Ostapenko, who is 22, has been ranked as high as No. 5 and currently is No. 72. She has won two tour-level titles, the first coming at Roland Garros 2½ years ago......»»
