Woman, testifying against El Chapo, details affair

NEW YORK --- Lucero Guadalupe Snchez Lpez was already trapped in an impossible extramarital relationship with Mexican drug lord Joaquin Guzman when she found herself in an even crazier bind --- fleeing with Guzman and others from authorities through an underground tunnel, her outlaw love interest in the buff. Guzman "was naked," Sanchez said Thursday. "He took off running. He left us behind." The account of the mad dash in 2014 and Sanchez's tortured romance with Guzman while he was on the run came at a U.S. drug trafficking trial that's detailed his rise and fall as a near-mythical cartel boss. His lawyers said the allegations have been fabricated by cooperators seeking lenien...Keep on reading: Woman, testifying against El Chapo, details affair.....»»

Isco and Asensio lead Madrid into Copa del Rey s last 16

By Tales Azzoni, Associated Press MADRID (AP) — Marco Asensio and Francisco "Isco" Alarcon were the big winners in a match that had little at stake for Real Madrid. The pair made the most of their chances in a second-string Madrid team on Thursday, scoring two goals each in a 6-1 rout of third division Melilla in the Copa del Rey. Javi Sanchez and Vinicius Junior also netted as the European champion advanced to the last-16 stage 10-1 on aggregate after having won the first leg 4-0 in the small Spanish enclave in Africa. Asensio and Isco used to have bigger roles for Madrid but haven't been getting many first-team opportunities under new coach Santiago Solari. "I'm very happy for Isco and I'm also very happy for Asensio and Vinicius," Solari said. "They could all be starters for us, otherwise they wouldn't be here." Vinicius played well throughout and claimed his second goal for Madrid with a shot from inside the area in the 75th minute at Santiago Bernabeu Stadium. Isco was a starter for the first time under Solari and was named captain. He hadn't scored a goal since September but one of his strikes against Melilla came from a superb long-range shot into the top corner. Asensio, a second-half substitute in the league last weekend, hadn't scored since the first leg against Melilla in October. Mariano Diaz went off near the end because of an apparent muscle injury, while Madrid youth players Fran Garcia and Alvaro Fidalgo came on for their debuts as second-half substitutes. EIBAR FALLS Eibar was the first top-tier club to go out after drawing 2-2 at home to second division Sporting Gijon. Eibar rallied from 2-0 down on Thursday but was eliminated 4-2 on aggregate. OTHER RESULTS Levante defeated second division Lugo 2-0 to advance 3-1 on aggregate. Jorge "Coke" Andujar and Raphael Dwamena scored late goals for the hosts at Ciutat de Valencia Stadium. Athletic Bilbao repeated the 4-0 result from the first leg against Huesca to advance 8-0 overall. It was the third win for Athletic in 16 matches this season, and the team's first match since Argentine coach Eduardo Berizzo was fired. Real Betis defeated third division Racing Santander 4-0 to go through 5-0 on aggregate. Barcelona, Atletico Madrid and Sevilla went through on Wednesday. The draw for the last 16 will be on Dec. 13......»»

Tennis star Venus Williams settles fatal crash lawsuit

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (AP) — Tennis star Venus Williams has settled a wrongful death lawsuit related to a fatal car crash in Florida, court records show. Palm Beach County court records show that the case was closed Friday. Terms of the agreement between Williams and the estate of Jerome Barson, 78, weren't included in the documents. Palm Beach Gardens police previously cleared both Williams and Barson's wife, Linda, in the June 9, 2017 crash that fatally injured Barson. A police report said an unidentified third vehicle illegally cut off Williams as she tried to cross a busy six-lane highway near her home, setting off a chain of events that ended with a sedan driven by Linda Barson, 68, slamming into the passenger side of Williams' SUV. Jerome Barson died 13 days after the crash, and his wife suffered a broken arm and other injuries. Williams, 38, was not hurt. Officer David Dowling, the lead investigator, said in his report that video from a nearby security camera shows Williams legally entered the intersection from a road exiting her gated neighborhood on a green light. As she started to cross, a dark sedan cut her off, forcing her to stop. When the sedan cleared her path, Williams began moving forward in her 2010 Toyota Sequoia, but that put her in the path of the Barsons, who now had the green light. The Barsons' 2016 Hyundai Accent hit Williams' SUV at 40 mph (65 kph). Dowling said in his report that state law required Williams to exit the intersection and that even though Linda Barson had the green light she was obligated to make sure the intersection was clear. Williams has career on-court earnings of about $40 million, her own clothing line and endorsement deals with Ralph Lauren, Kraft foods, Tide detergent and Wilson sporting goods. She also owns a small percentage of the Miami Dolphins. Attorneys for Williams and the Barsons didn't immediately return messages seeking comment......»»
