Music on celebs’ playlists

Celebrities often listen to music to relax and unwind. For this forum, we've asked celebrities what music acts and singers they're currently listening to and why.   MANILYN REYNES. I'm an old soul, so I am an avid listener of music from the '50s to the '80s. I have always loved Whitney Houston and Michael Jackson, but among the singers we have now, I listen to Adele. I like how she writes her songs and expresses her feelings. I love the quality of her voice. Once in a while, I also listen to Bruno Mars, John Legend, Jessie J, Alicia Keys and Charlie Puth---there's a whole bunch of talented ones out there. And I've always believed in the charm and power of Original Pilip...Keep on reading: Music on celebs’ playlists.....»»

Overmatched

Considering how the Sixers lost yesterday, it’s fair to argue that the Wizards have their number -- at the Capital One Arena, that is, where, for some reason or another, they’ve failed to taste victory in five years. It didn’t matter that the hosts were missing John Wall, out for the rest of the season due to a left heel injury, or that they just came off a rousing triumph against the very same opponents at the Wells Fargo Center. Apparently, there’s something in the Washington air that makes them forget they’re supposed to be crowding the top of the East and not the bottom......»»

Makati s MPBL win run goes on; QC gets payback on Manda

Makati picked up where it left off in the latter stretch of 2018 and started the new year on a winning note to extend their streak in the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League Datu Cup. The Super Crunch outlasted the Pasig Pirates, 76-71, to sustain their winning run and notch their ninth straight victory.  With the win, Makati has improved its win-loss record to 15-4 to climb into a tie for third spot with idle San Juan in the tough northern division of this tournament. But in picking up their latest win, the Super Crunch had to endure a hard test and head coach Cholo Villanueva admitted his squad’s struggles. “You can see that we’re a bit sluggish. This is our first game in three weeks and most of the players are still on a vacation mode,” added Villanueva. “But this win means a lot because we were able to climb to third spot and has a chance to improve further.” Leading the way for the Super Crunch was veteran Mark Isip, who knocked in 11 of his 19 points in the opening quarter to keep a hold of the rest of the team. The Super Crunch extended their winning run to nine a row and they are the second hottest team in the tournament after the Tigers of Davao Occidental, who are having a 12-game winning streak. Joseph Sedurifa added 12 while Jeckster Apinan and John Rey Villanueva had 11 apiece for Makati. Pasig absorbed its 15th loss in 18 games to stay at the cellar. Earlier, Quezon City settled an old score with Mandaluyong by winning, 86-76, in the other game. It was a rematch of the game that was ordered to be replayed after the Capitals filed a protest on the El Tigre for fielding in Ronjay Buenafe, who was ineligible to play......»»

Trae Young, John Collins power undermanned Hawks past Heat

ATLANTA --- Trae Young reached out to Dwyane Wade twice in hopes he'd get a signed jersey in the star's last game in Atlanta. Wade, whose son Zaire is friends with Young, gladly obliged. "I texted him and I was like, 'I need it for the last time in the ATL," Young said. "He said, 'I already got it planned.' It was cool to talk to him." Young scored 19 points, John Collins had 13 points and 13 rebounds, and the Hawks snapped a three-game skid with a 106-82 victory over the Miami Heat on Sunday night. Perhaps it helped Wade get over the Heat's worst performance of the season. Living the beard life

I first started shaving in my last year of high school. My facial hair started growing a few years before and I paid it no mind until one of my teachers made an innocuous remark about.   "Going for the John Lennon look?"   It took me an embarrassingly long while to realize that she was not talking about the early, boyish, Beatlemania John, but the gruff, unkempt, post-Maharishi, Abbey Road John.   It was a brief yet brutal affair, shaving for the first time. I had already made up my mind that everything below the ears had to go and I was exceedingly eager to be done with it. I picked up the first shaving implement within sight from the bathroom sink, ...Keep on reading: Living the beard life.....»»

Victor Oladipo hits late 3, Pacers beat Bulls 119-116 in OT

By MATT CARLSON,  Associated Press CHICAGO (AP) — Victor Oladipo made a 3-pointer from just above the top of the arc with 0.3 seconds left in overtime to give the Indiana Pacers their sixth straight victory, 119-116 over the Chicago Bulls on Friday night (Saturday PHL time). VICTOR OLADIPO FOR THE WIN! #Pacers pic.twitter.com/dAG9sRIVV3 — NBA (@NBA) January 5, 2019 Oladipo had 36 points and seven rebounds, and Domantas Sabonis added 23 points and 12 rebounds in the first game of a five-game trip. Chicago's Zach LaVine hit a 3-pointer from the corner, but after time ran out in the extra period. LaVine led Chicago with 31 points. He made two 3-pointers in the closing moments of regulation to tie it at 105 and send it overtime. He hit the first 3 with 17.3 seconds left from outside the left side of the arc, then knotted it with 3.9 seconds remaining from almost the same spot. Indiana's Thaddeus Young had 16 points, including several key baskets down the stretch in the fourth quarter, to help the Pacers overcame an early 12-point deficit. Lauri Markkanen had 27 points, and Kris Dunn had 16 points and 17 assists for Chicago. Chicago led 78-75 heading into the fourth quarter, but Indiana grabbed a six-point lead with 1:12 left when Sabonis hit a pair of free throws. LaVine then tied it TRADE FALLOUT: Guards MarShon Brooks and Wayne Selden Jr., acquired by the Bulls in a trade Thursday that sent guard Justin Holiday to Memphis, has not yet joined Chicago. The Grizzlies also sent second-round picks in 2019 and 2020 to the rebuilding Bulls. Chicago waived guard Cameron Payne in another move. "What we did last night was consistent with our direction," Executive Vice President-Basketball Operations John Paxson said before Friday. "Getting the two second-round picks was important to us. We're going to keep Wayne Selden. He's a young player and we'll see what he develops into. It's a deal we felt we had to make." Coach Jim Boylen wasn't yet sure where the 24-year-old Selden, whom he called a "big thick dude,"will fit in. YOUTH TO THE FRONT: Chandler Hutchison, a 22-year-old rookie forward, moved into Chicago's young lineup and made his fourth start this season. Hutchison and the Bulls' four other starters — Markkanen, Wendel Carter Jr., LaVine and Dunn — were all first-round picks. Dunn, who's 24, is the oldest in the group. Carter is the youngest at 19. "(The trade) gives Chandler Hutchison an opportunity to play," Paxson said. "He'll have to meet the standards Jim (Boylen) and we want, but he'll get the opportunity." TIP-INS Pacers: C Myles Turner was back in the starting lineup, wearing a face mask, after breaking his nose in a collision with Atlanta forward-center John Collins midway through the third quarter of a 116-108 win Monday in Indianapolis. Turner had 20 points, eight rebounds and blocked four shots in less than 24 minutes in that game, then needed only a brief medical procedure to fix his nose. "I'm feeling great," Turner said before Friday's game. "Excited to get out there." Bulls: F Bobby Portis (sprained right ankle) missed his seventh straight game but might return Sunday when the Bulls host Brooklyn. Portis will have another contact day on Saturday. "It does look good," coach Jim Boylen said, "but I'm not going to bank on it." ... F Jabari Parker entered the game in the first quarter after not playing since Dec. 13 at Orlando (nine games) due to illness and coaching decisions. UP NEXT Pacers: At Toronto on Sunday night Bulls: Host Brooklyn on Sunday night......»»
