Prime venture lights up households’ hopes
Giving Filipino families comfort in their abodes plainly is not possible without adequate electricity — a situation that Solar Tanauan Corp., a subsidiary of Prime Infrastructure Capital Inc. led by businessman Enrique K. Razon Jr., hopes to immediately address. The renewable energy company is integrating advanced project design and execution tools into its solar plant developments in the provinces of Batangas and Cavite as part of its drive to augment affordable and clean energy supply in the country. Digital twin technology Solar Tanauan utilizes digital twin technology, drone verification of progress, optimized string sizing, and 24/7 quality assurance/quality control monitoring both at the factory and at the site. It has also conducted a Front End Engineering Design to streamline the procurement and construction phases, packaged contracting, and owner-supplied materials. These technologies allow each party to focus on their specialties, optimize risk allocation, and use software for simplifying complex earthwork assessment for terrain-following layouts. “We are proud to have the most advanced execution technology and strategy for a solar power project here in the Philippines. This is a testament to Prime Infra’s approach in deploying renewable energy projects and reaffirms our commitment to pioneer innovative solutions towards a clean energy future,” Prime Infra President and CEO Guillaume Lucci said in a statement sent to the press on Friday. Solar plants commissioned by yearend Prime Infra previously said it expects to start commissioning its 140-megawatt solar power plants in Tanauan, Batangas and Maragondon, Cavite by the end of the year. The company kicked off the construction of the plants in April. The projects are estimated to have an annual generation capacity of 202 gigawatt-hours — enough to power up over 84,000 households and displace over 100,000 tons of coal annually. The Tanauan and Maragondon solar power plants will have an installed gross capacity of up to 140 megawatts. Total annual generation capacity is estimated to power over 84,000 households and displace over 100,000 tons of coal per year. Once running, the projects will also support the national government’s bid to increase the share of renewable energy in the country’s total energy mix to 35 percent by 2030 and 50 percent by 2040. Last year, renewable energy only took up 22.8 percent of the total mix. By then, Filipino families would benefit through a steady supply of electricity at lower cost. Better sports facilities pushed
As chairperson of the Senate Committee on Sports, I am saddened by the dilapidated state of the country’s iconic sports facilities. The Philippine Institute of Sports Multi-Purpose Arena, popularly known as PhilSports Arena, has come a long way from the time it was built in 1985 to house the Philippine Basketball Association until the league moved out in 1993 due to the lack of maintenance of the venue. The last time it was renovated was in 2019, when the country hosted the 30th Southeast Asian Games. Among PhilSports Arena’s main facilities are the Multi-purpose Arena, Swimming Center, and Football and Athletic Stadium. While the arena was greatly enjoyed as a sports facility, it also served as a temporary shelter for evacuees after Tropical Storm Ondoy and Typhoon Pepeng struck the Philippines in 2009, adding to the facility's wear and tear. A quick look at the PhilSports Arena and the other sports facilities nationwide should make us realize that we should invest more in rehabilitating our iconic sports facilities. As I have suggested during the budget deliberations in the Senate, prioritizing funding for sports facilities would have been better than putting flood control projects in areas with little to no population. This concern about the support we are providing our athletes has motivated me to author and co-sponsor Republic Act No. 11470, which established the National Academy of Sports at New Clark City in Capas, Tarlac. In collaboration with the Philippine Sports Commission and the Department of Education, NAS now offers a specialized secondary education program focused on sports where students can study and train simultaneously. I have also filed the Philippine National Games bill, which aims to provide a structure for a more comprehensive national sports program, linking grassroots sports promotion to national sports development by having a mini Olympics regularly. Providing opportunities to our youth will help develop their potential in sports but will also help keep them away from vices such as illegal drugs. I continue to support establishing sports-related programs and infrastructure to divert the youth from the lure of addiction and criminality. This is also part of my three-pronged approach to combat illegal drugs in the Philippines – law enforcement, rehabilitation, and prevention. Yesterday, I witnessed the Philippine ROTC Games 2023 Luzon Qualifying Leg opening ceremony held at Cavite State University – Indang Campus in Indang, Cavite. With Sen. Francis Tolentino, I encouraged our young cadets who participated in various competitions to get into sports and stay away from drugs. I have also remained faithful to my promise to visit and help our fellow Filipinos in most parts of the country. On 16 September, we attended the groundbreaking of a Super Health Center in Manolo Fortich, Bukidnon. We also visited the town of Damulog, where I inspected projects I have supported, such as a public market, road concreting project, evacuation center, solar street lights, and a multipurpose building. Later that day, we also attended the 25th Anniversary of Public Safety Basic Recruit Course Class 1998-Alpha at Acacia Hotel in Davao City. On 15 September, we attended a meeting of state universities and colleges leaders held in Davao City and hosted by Commission on Higher Education Chair Prospero de Vera. The night before, we also joined leaders from the CHEd, the University of the Philippines System, and various SUCs to honor the appointment of Atty. Angelo Jimenez, a fellow Mindanaoan, as the 22nd President of the University of the Philippines. We took the opportunity to voice our commitment to elevating the standard of education nationwide. This is also the reason why Republic Act No. 10931, or the Universal Access To Quality Tertiary Education Act, was enacted into law during the time of former president Rodrigo Duterte. Today, we continue to pursue this further as I co-authored and co-sponsored Senate Bill No. 1360, which aims to widen the reach of the law further. We visited Bislig City in Surigao del Sur to participate in its 23rd Charter Day festivities. We handed out grocery packages to 32 newlywed couples during a community wedding and inaugurated the country’s 159th Malasakit Center at the Bislig District Hospital. This is the seventh Malasakit Center in the Caraga region and the 40th in Mindanao. Our team also provided direct aid, including grocery packs, to 129 patients and 191 front liners, including security guards, utilities, and hospital staff. On 15 September, my office also attended the groundbreaking of Super Health Centers in New Washington and Malay in the province of Aklan. Meanwhile, we continue to support livelihood programs, especially those that can help people experiencing poverty overcome crises. Through our support, the Department of Trade and Industry provides livelihood kits to qualified beneficiaries affected by calamities and teaches them how to grow their businesses for the benefit of their families. Among those we have helped are 20 from Dipaculao, Aurora; 57 from Sanchez Mira and Abulog, Cagayan; 100 affected by the earthquake in Montevista and New Bataan, and 50 in Nabunturan in Davao de Oro; 196 in Malalag and Sulop, Davao del Sur; 20 in Mangatarem, Pangasinan; 21 victims of Typhoon Egay in Pigcawayan, North Cotabato; 132 shear line victims in Gingoog City, Misamis Oriental; and 36 beneficiaries from Lutayan and Columbio, Sultan Kudarat, and General Santos City. We also continue to support the National Housing Authority’s distribution of emergency housing assistance to disaster victims so they can purchase roofing, nails, and other home repair materials. We assisted beneficiaries, including 85 fire victims in Imus City, Cavite. Meanwhile, my office helped the 65 fire victims in Bacolod City, Negros Occidental. We also provided assistance to 75 TESDA graduates in Victorias City, Negros Occidental. We also distributed additional support to workers who lost their jobs, beneficiaries of the TUPAD program of the Department of Labor and Employment, including 413 in Talibon, Bohol, and 150 in Plaridel, Bulacan. We also aided 333 poor residents in Paluan, Occidental Mindoro; and 234 in Antipolo City, Rizal. Together, let us continue bringing government services closer to Filipinos in need – from better sports facilities more accessible healthcare services, and implementing various programs to help uplift communities affected by crises. P5M street-lighting project in Pangasinan inaugurated
Department of the Interior and Local Government Secretary Benhur Abalos led on Sunday morning the inauguration of a P5 million street-lighting project in Mangaldan, Pangasinan. The project involves the installation of 115 solar panels to provide lighting along the Alangacan Road traversing barangays Tebag, Salaan, Palua, and a portion of Pogo, and directly benefiting the Angalacan Eco-Tourism Park which is one of the main tourist destinations in the town. It was funded through the Seal of Good Local Governance incentive the municipality won last year. Abalos commended the Municipal Government of Mangaldan for winning the prestigious SGLG Award multiple times and for putting the incentive into good use. “Sa SGLG, pinipili namin ang pinakamagagaling na LGUs. Napakahirap manalo dito, para kang pumapasok sa butas ng karayom. At ako ay natutuwa dahil laging lumulusot ang Mangaldan,” Abalos said in his message during the inauguration ceremony. “Natutuwa ako na ginamit ang SGLG Incentive fund sa tamang paraan. Napakaimportante ng pailaw na ito, ng installation ng 115 solar lights. Lagi kong sinasabi, what if ang naglalakad sa gabi ay anak nating babae, o asawa nating babae, yan ang laging barometer ko kung safe ang lugar,” he added. The project is already the 5th SGLG-funded initiative in Mangaldan town having won the award in 2015, 2017, 2018, 2019, and 2022. He also urged local officials to be proactive in their leadership by engaging in regular dialogue with their constituents and collectively finding and implementing solutions to their locality’s problems. “Leadership is knowing about your community. Ang pagiging magaling na lider ay ang pag-alam sa iyong lugar, sa kalakasan nito at kahinaan nito. Makukuha mo ang solusyon sa pakikipagdayalogo sa mga tao. Kailangang makasalamuha mo ang tao,” he said. “Matapos mo makonsulta ang tao makasama ang tao sa pag-implementa and once you implement it, i tell you, you cannot go wrong because that is leadership coming from the heart, coming from the community. It’s a proactive kind of leadership,” he added. He also urged them to harness agriculture which is the biggest resource of their town and province and continue to work for the welfare of their constituents. “Ang yaman at lakas n’yo ay agrikultura, harness this at kasama n’yo ako dito,” he said. Mangaldan Mayor Bona Fe De Vera-Parayno expressed her gratitude to the DILG for the SGLG incentive and for serving as an inspiration. “Taos-puso kaming nagpapasalamat kay Secretary Abalos at sa DILG sa pagbibigay ng proyektong ito at sa inspirasyon ng pagiging matino, mahusay at maaasahan,” she said. The SGLG is an institutionalized award, incentive, honor, and recognition-based program, that aims to bring about inclusive and people-oriented reforms that will enable LGUs to foster a culture of good governance. P6.99-B allocated for Zambales 2nd District dev’t
BOTOLAN, ZAMBALES — A total of P6.99-billion worth of funding was infused for the development of the Second Legislative District of Zambales. This was revealed by Representative Doris “Nanay Bing” Maniquiz during her "Ulat sa Pangalawang Distrito ng Zambales” last week, as the official sourced funds for crucial infrastructure projects like flood-control dikes and roads. The solon cited that the one-year budget has doubled the infrastructure allocation received by the Second District in the last eight years. She added that P4.46 billion of the budget will be used for the construction of 59 flood-control structures and road dikes designed to protect low-lying areas threatened by perennial flooding, as well as lahar surges during heavy rains. “These are not your ordinary kind of dikes that simply hold back water,” Maniquiz pointed out. “These are road dikes that residents will also use to access their farms and other remote areas, as well as to transport local products safely and efficiently.” The infrastructure allocations Maniquiz rolled out also included 37 new concrete road constructions; the improvement of 22 national road sections; 22 school buildings; 12 public buildings and facilities; 38 irrigation projects; three solar water systems; and other miscellaneous projects like bridge construction and installation of solar lights. Maniquiz pointed out that these projects, as well as similar initiatives in her I-HELP program for infrastructure, health, education, livelihood, and people’s welfare, became possible with the help of House Speaker Ferdinand Martin G. Romuladez and other officials who provided development funds for the Second District. “I cannot thank the Speaker well enough for all his help, as well as his wife Congresswoman Yedda Romualdez of Tingog Partylist and Tingog 2nd nominee Congressman Jude Acidre, since the bulk of my funds for social services came from them,” she added. Other than these, the Zambales solon cited financial assistance from Cong. Jocelyn Tulfo of ACT-CIS Partylist; Rep. Sandro Marcos; Diwa Partylist; and Senators Imee Marcos, Sonny Angara, Nancy Binay, Bong Go, Raffy Tulfo, Jinggoy Estrada, Loren Legarda, Lito Lapid, and Koko Pimentel. She added that the Department of Health, Department of Social Welfare and Development, and Department of Labor and Employment also provided funding under their respective financial assistance programs to add to the money she had sourced out after becoming Second District congresswoman last year. “The generous help from our friends in Congress and in the Senate is the only reason why we were successful with a lot of development projects and constituent service in the Zambales Second District,” Maniquiz said. Orchard gets a hole-in-one with Meralco Biz
Formerly a mango plantation in Dasmariñas Cavite, The Orchard Golf and Country Club is a private membership golf club that boasts two 18-hole golf courses. “We pride ourselves as the busiest golf club in the Philippines in terms of rounds played and active members,” said President and CEO Tomas Julio Benitez. Orchard has also been notable for their environmental initiatives, like the preservation of wildlife sanctuaries, as well as lessening their carbon footprint and being more conscious of operating more efficiently. Meralco Biz empowers them to achieve these and more. Meralco Biz, the segment dedicated to providing end-to-end energy solutions to small and medium enterprises, empowers businesses to maximize profitability and efficiency, as well as grow and expand, through its energy services and solutions. [caption id="attachment_155455" align="aligncenter" width="525"] Spectrum’s partnership with The Orchard involved a solar rooftop project with a capacity of 99.9 kilowatt-peak (kWp) installed at the latter’s sports and leisure facility in Dasmarinas, Cavite.[/caption] Going Solar Orchard’s collaboration with Meralco Biz started in 2019 when they availed of Peak/Off-Peak (POP) to address their high electric bills due to water pumps that service their golf courses. POP is an alternative energy pricing scheme designed to help businesses lower their energy cost through rates based on peak and off-peak periods. This solution generates around P190,000 in annual savings for Orchard. Apart from the cost savings, according to Benitez, Meralco Biz has also enabled Orchard to use energy more efficiently to help mitigate the effects of climate change and inspire others to take the same green path. Orchard’s sustainability efforts started with converting lights to LED and limiting their irrigation to only the playing areas of the golf course. Still, they knew these were insufficient and had to explore other ways to operate more efficiently. Enter Meralco and its innovative energy solutions. The installation of solar panels, for one, reduced Orchard’s carbon footprint and helped them cope with the effects of the pandemic. According to Benitez, their solar panels were completed in early 2022 with the help of Spectrum — a solar power company built with Meralco’s energy expertise and service standards. When Orchard installed solar panels, they also subscribed to Net Metering, ensuring that their solar installation complies with safety standards and protects them from power fluctuations and interruptions. It also gives them the maximum value and savings through credits earned when they export excess power to the Meralco grid. For just one year, the golf club has generated savings of around P785,000 annually from using solar energy and credits from Net Metering. “The investment that we made, we will recover it in about four to five years. It is better than having money in the bank,” Benitez explained. “Meralco would always help us find ways to save, which is admirable because it proves that they prioritize helping customers and the environment through sustainable energy solutions.” [caption id="attachment_155457" align="aligncenter" width="525"] From left to right: Robert Miclat, House Services Manager; Rhenz Ferma, Biz Partner Manager[/caption] [caption id="attachment_155458" align="aligncenter" width="525"] From left to right: Kim Verlie Gabilo, Meralco Zone Officer; Tomas Julio Benitez, President & CEO; Rhenz Ferma, Meralco Biz Partner Manager[/caption] [caption id="attachment_155456" align="aligncenter" width="525"] From left to right: Irene Patricio, Head of Internal Audit; Ernilo Famy, General Manager; Tomas Julio Benitez, President & CEO the Orchard Golf & Country Club; Francis Montallana, Golf Director[/caption] Moving Forward Orchard is looking forward to further strengthening their partnership with Meralco. For one, they’re planning to expand the solar panel installations and explore recommendations from the power company to improve efficiency by managing power quality and safety. As Orchard strives to be a greener golf and country club, Meralco Biz is there every step of the way to understand, anticipate, and address energy needs. “Our partners, just like The Orchard Golf and Country Club, are assured that Meralco Biz is ready to support them on their journey towards sustainability and operational efficiency,” Joy P. Mendoza, AVP & Head of Meralco Biz, affirmed. “Through our innovative energy solutions, which include Peak/Off-Peak and Net Metering, we have not only empowered Orchard to reduce their carbon footprint and generate substantial savings but also bolstered their goal of becoming a greener golf and country club,” she added. Bong Go’s office assists hundreds of indigents in Bani, Pangasinan
Senator Bong Go continues to show his dedication to assisting impoverished Filipinos as his team provided assistance to poor residents in Bani, Pangasinan on Thursday, 6 July in coordination with the office of Vice Mayor Gwen Yamamoto. Go, who is an adopted son of Pangasinan, conveyed through a video message his unwavering commitment to promoting the growth and well-being of the province and its residents. Go’s team distributed masks, snacks, and shirts to 350 residents gathered at Bani Plaza. Select beneficiaries also received shoes, watches, and balls for basketball and volleyball. Go, who is chair of the Senate Committee on Health, highlighted the importance of investing in healthcare infrastructure and services. He also encouraged Pangasinenses to take advantage of the services available at the Malasakit Center at Region 1 Medical Center in Dagupan City. The senator has focused on improving access to healthcare services to help ensure that poor and indigent Filipinos get the medical services they need. This prompted him to principally author and sponsor Republic Act No. 11463, also known as the Malasakit Centers Act of 2019. The 158 Malasakit Centers established throughout the country have provided assistance to over seven million Filipinos, according to the Department of Health. Go reiterated his commitment to support the establishment of more Super Health Centers across the country, considering how they can significantly help reduce hospital occupancy rates while bringing government medical services closer to the grassroots. The 2022 health budget helped finance the establishment of Super Health Centers in Alaminos City, Balungao, Basista, Manaoag, Mapandan, Tayug, Pozorrubio, Asingan, and Umingan. Under the 2023 budget, more Super Health Centers will be constructed in Agno, Alcala, Bani, Calasiao, Malasiqui, San Fabian, San Quintin, San Manuel, Sison, and Urbiztondo. The DOH is the lead implementing agency that identifies the strategic areas where the Super Health Centers will be constructed. The senator, who is also vice chair of the Senate Committee on Finance, supported various infrastructure projects in Pangasinan to help enhance public service delivery in the province. Among these projects are the construction of farm-to-market roads in Aguilar, Calasiao, San Fabian, and Umingan. It also includes the procurement of medical equipment for the Western Pangasinan District Hospital in Alaminos and the Eastern Pangasinan District Hospital in Tayug. Go also supported other projects including the acquisition of ambulance units for Anda, Lingayen, and Mangaldan; the construction of public parks in Dasol and Lingayen; the purchase of dump trucks for Mangaldan and Villasis; construction of a multi-purpose center in Binmaley, and multi-purpose buildings in Burgos, Natividad, Pozorrubio, and Urbiztondo; and installation of solar-powered street lights in Binmalay, San Jacinto, and Villasis. Kuya Bong reiterates push for accessible public health services
Senator Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go has reiterated his commitment to promoting initiatives aimed at improving healthcare accessibility, such as the establishment of more Super Health Centers in the country. The lawmaker — during his attendance to the groundbreaking of yet another Super Health Center in Lala, Lanao del Norte — recognized the urgent need to address the basic health service requirements of Filipinos, particularly those residing in underserved areas. Go, who also chairs the Senate Committee on Health and Demography — emphasized that the idea of Super Health Centers stems from the need to bridge the healthcare gap that exists between urban and rural regions. He also cited that underserved areas often lack proper healthcare infrastructure, resulting in limited access to essential services such as diagnostics, treatment and preventive care as he pushed for the initiative in 2021. To address these challenges, Go envisions Super Health Centers as healthcare hubs that offer a wide range of services, including database management, outpatient, birthing, isolation, diagnostic (laboratory: X-ray and ultrasound), pharmacy, and an ambulatory surgical unit. Other services available include eye, ear, nose, and throat care, oncology centers, physical therapy and rehabilitation centers, and telemedicine, which enable remote diagnosis and treatment of patients. Meanwhile, Go acknowledged the commitment of all local officials, including Governor Imelda Dimaporo, Congresswoman Sittie Aminah Quibranza Dimaporo, Lala Mayor Angel Yap, and Vice Mayor Cesar Yap Jr., among others, for ensuring that those in grassroots communities get access to government health services. GM Also, in commemoration of Eid al-Adha, Go led a relief operation for indigents at the municipal evacuation center and provided relief items, such as grocery packs, masks, vitamins, and snacks to 1,000 struggling residents. The senator also gave away cellular phones, bicycles, shoes, shirts, watches, and balls for basketball and volleyball to select recipients. In addition, a team from the Department of Social Welfare and Development extended financial assistance. As vice chair of the Senate Committee on Finance, Go also supported several initiatives in the town, such as the construction of flood control and drainage structures and farm-to-market roads. He also helped in the completion of solar-powered street lights in some barangays. On the same day, Go visited Tubod and inspected the construction of a new legislative building, another infrastructure project he supported, and led a relief effort for 1,000 disadvantaged individuals. He was also in Nunungan where he joined the 64th Araw ng Lanao del Norte celebration and assisted more indigents. Go also joined the launch of the Mt. Inayawan Range Natural Park as an ASEAN Heritage Park. The post Kuya Bong reiterates push for accessible public health services appeared first on Daily Tribune......»»
Pagadian welcomes Super Health Center
Senator Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go has recently sent his appreciation to the local government of Pagadian City, Zamboanga del Sur and the Department of Health for the successful groundbreaking of the city’s Super Health Center on Friday. In his video message, Go expressed his confidence that the said health facility would effectively deliver accessible healthcare services to the residents of Pagadian City. “It is a significant step towards enhanced healthcare services, which is really the government’s goal,” said Go, who also chairs the Senate Committee on Health and Demography. Through the collective efforts of fellow lawmakers, sufficient funds had been allocated for 307 Super Health Centers in 2022 and 322 in 2023. The DoH, the lead implementing agency, identifies the strategic areas where they will be constructed. The Super Health Center is an enhanced version of a rural health unit, offering basic health services such as database management, outpatient care, birthing facilities, isolation areas, diagnostic services (including laboratory tests, X-rays, and ultrasounds), pharmacy services, and ambulatory surgical units. Additionally, these centers provide services such as eye, ear, nose, and throat care, oncology centers, physical therapy and rehabilitation centers and telemedicine, which enables remote diagnosis and treatment of patients. In Zamboanga del Sur, necessary funds have also been allocated for the construction of other Super Health Centers in Mahayag and Margosatubig. Aligned with the senator’s commitment to improving access to healthcare, Go highlighted the presence of Malasakit Centers at Zamboanga del Sur Medical Center in Pagadian City and at Margosatubig Regional Hospital, which are open to assist particularly poor and indigent patients. The Malasakit Center is designed to provide Filipinos with convenient access to medical assistance programs offered by the DoH, Department of Social Welfare and Development, Philippine Health Insurance Corporation, and Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office. There are currently 158 operational centers in the country, which have assisted over seven million Filipinos, according to the DoH in which Go is principal author and sponsor of the Malasakit Centers Act of 2019. Meanwhile, to help improve the infrastructure development in the city, Go, as vice chair or the Senate Committee on Finance, supported the city’s water system, the concretion of a farm-to-market road in Barangay Sebukang, and the acquisition and installation of solar-powered street lights along Lodion National Highway to Balucot National Highway. Sustainability from plant to shelves to every Filipino home
Procter & Gamble Philippines continues to integrate sustainable solutions in its product manufacturing and business operations so that its trusted and superior products are produced and delivered in more sustainable ways from plant to shelves, and ultimately into every Filipino household. One of the largest players in the consumer goods industry in the Philippines, P&G has stepped up to integrate sustainable solutions in its Cabuyao plant, which manufactures most of its products sold domestically. It purchases 100-percent renewable electricity and maintains a zero-manufacturing waste-to-landfill plant. It recycles over 300 metric tons of non-residual waste every year. P&G’s LEED-certified Cabuyao distribution center houses energy-saving facilities that feature the use of roof skylights, roof ventilators and automatic exhaust and supply fans that only run at specific times of the day to save energy during the cooler times. P&G’s offices and plants have also started converting their use of fluorescent lights to LED light fixtures, which use less energy than other types of light bulbs. The company is reducing electricity consumption by utilizing motion detector devices in its lighting fixtures in the distribution center to eliminate the possibility that the lights will accidentally be left on in the mega-facility. P&G also integrates sustainable alternative solutions into its product packaging. Safeguard multipacks eliminated its virgin plastic overwrap packaging to 100-percent recycled paper carton material, saving 8,500 kilometers worth of plastic waste every year, equivalent to one thousand times the length of the world-famous Boracay shoreline. Herbal Essences Bio: Renew Collection also uses 25-percent post-consumer resin for its bottle packaging. As it works on packaging innovations, P&G has also improved its product bundling packaging by converting single-use laminate-based bellybands and stickers to 100-percent FSC-certified papers, resulting in 66-percent less in bundling material usage and a 380,000 kg reduction in plastic waste. To further expand the company’s efforts to reduce, reuse and recycle waste in its business operations, P&G launched its employee-led Project LESS program in 2021 to provide better and more sustainable alternatives to other significant but often overlooked retail materials such point of sales materials. The initiative resulted in the development of “Flexi-POSMs”, which are collapsible, reusable and paper-based in-store displays. P&G’s flexi-POSM has a changeable visual structure that allows house brands to easily redesign and reuse the flexi-POSMs for other brand launches and initiatives. P&G launched a regional sustainability partnership with a leading e-commerce company to recycle used cartons from its Cabuyao plant for use as last-mile packaging in e-commerce delivery. Cartons converted into honeycomb-like protective wraps are now being used as replacements for the previous plastic bubble wrap paddings. The honeycomb-like protective wrap reduces usage of single-use bubble wrap plastic while providing the same quality of packaging protection. The beauty brand Olay also produced a “Ship-In-Own-Container” molded carton packaging for online purchases, eliminating the need for additional customization and last-mile packaging materials such as bubble wrap, fillers and tape. P&G Philippines was recently recognized at the 2022 Asia CEO Awards with the Sustainability Company of The Year’s Circle of Excellence Award. The award is given to organizations that achieved important success in environmental progress and demonstrated leadership and commitment to sustainability. Bong Go assists indigents in Indigents in Zambales
Amid the World Health Organization’s lifting of the global health emergency status of COVID-19, Senator Bong Go reminded the public to make health their top priority while the government continues to exert great efforts to recover from the pandemic. In a video message during the relief efforts in Botolan and Iba, Zambales on Monday, 8 May, Go, head of the Senate Committee on Health and Demography, encouraged the public to remain vigilant and still follow health protocols. He underscored that while the threat of COVID-19 continues, the Filipinos’ ‘bayanihan’ spirit must continue as well. He urged the eligible public to remain supportive of the government’s pandemic efforts by participating in the national vaccination drive. “Mga kababayan ko, ilang taon na po tayong nasa pandemya. Kaya nakikiusap po ako sa inyo na huwag po maging kumpiyansa. Kahit ni-lift na ng WHO ang global health emergency, andiyan pa rin po ang banta ng COVID-19. Magpabakuna at magpabooster shots na po kayo dahil ang bakuna po ang tanging susi sa ngayon para makabalik tayo sa normal na pamumuhay,” said Go. He then offered to help those with medical issues. The senator advised them to visit President Ramon Magsaysay Memorial Hospital in Iba where there is a Malasakit Center to assist them with their medical expenses. The Malasakit Centers program was institutionalized under Republic Act No. 11463 which Go principally authored and sponsored in the Senate. The Act aims to provide convenient access to various government assistance to particularly poor and indigent patients and help them with their hospital bills. Go’s team distributed snacks to a total of 390 struggling residents at Barangay Panan Hall in Botolan and the Sports Complex gymnasium in Iba. The senator also gave away cellular phones, shoes, and balls for basketball and volleyball to select recipients. Continuing his message, Go maintained that necessary funds have been allocated by last year for the Department of Health to construct Super Health Centers in Iba, Botolan, and Castillejos. Advocated by Go, Super Health Centers are medium versions of polyclinics and are bigger than rural health units, which offer basic services, such as database management, out-patient, birthing, isolation, isolation, diagnostic (laboratory: x-ray, ultrasound), pharmacy and ambulatory surgical unit. Through the collective efforts of fellow lawmakers, sufficient funds had been allocated for 307 Super Health Centers in 2022 and 322 in 2023. DOH, the lead implementing agency, identifies the strategic areas where they will be constructed. In its Resolution No. 205 dated 8 August 2022 the Sangguniang Panlalawigan of Zambales pronounced Go as its adopted son, noting that the senator has "embodied the spirit of good governance and public service" by exerting great efforts to help the whole province. Meanwhile, in a resolution adopted by the Sangguniang Bayan on June 23, 2022, Go was also proclaimed as an adopted son of Iba, citing that Go has shown a big heart for the country, especially to local government units where he poured government resources to empower LGUs. In line with his commitment to helping build back the city and the rest of the province, Go supported the rehabilitation of roads in Botolan, Masinloc, San Felipe, San Marcelino, and Olongapo City; rehabilitation of the public market in San Antonio; construction of a seawall in Masinloc; and construction of two multipurpose buildings and installation of solar powered street lights in Botolan. “Mga kababayan ko, mag-ingat po tayo. Magdasal po tayo, magtulungan po tayo, magbayanihan po tayo, magmalasakit po tayo sa ating kapwa Pilipino. Magtiwala lang po kayo sa gobyerno at makakaahon din po tayo bilang nagkakaisang mamamayang Pilipino,” encouraged Go. The senator was accompanied by Philippine Charity and Sweepstakes Office Chair Junie Cua and local officials led by Governor Dakila “Dax” Cua, Congresswoman Midy Cua, Saguday Mayor Jerry Pagbilao, and Vice Mayor Ric Cadiente, among others. So gamitin n’yo po ito,” he expressed. Super Health Centers are improved versions of polyclinics that offer basic health services, including database management, out-patient, birthing, isolation, diagnostic (laboratory: x-ray and ultrasound), pharmacy and ambulatory surgical unit. Other available services are eye, ear, nose, and throat (EENT) service, oncology centers, physical therapy and rehabilitation center and telemedicine, where remote diagnosis and treatment of patients will be done. As identified by the Department of Health, other locations for the Super Health Centers in the province are in the towns of Aglipay and Nagtipunan. Through the concerted efforts of lawmakers, adequate funding has been allocated for the establishment of 307 Super Health Centers in 2022 and 322 more in 2023. “Natutuwa po ako na patapos na at pinalaki, pina-expand po ni Mayor (Pagbilao) ang inyong Super Health Center. At hindi lang po basta Super Health Center, talagang pinalaki para madagdagan pa po ang kapasidad ng inyong Super Health Center. Makakatulong po ito sa mga mahihirap nating mga kababayan,” Go remarked. The senator also highlighted Malasakit Centers nationwide, which are one-stop shops for the government's medical assistance programs. He is the principal author and sponsor of the Malasakit Centers Act that institutionalized the Malasakit Centers program. The 157 centers have so far assisted over seven million particularly poor and indigent patients across the country, according to the DOH. Go then led a relief operation at Lakas Bayan Center in Saguday where he and his team gave away grocery packs, masks, vitamins, snacks, and shirts to 500 struggling residents. They also provided bicycles, cellular phones, shoes, watches, and balls for basketball and volleyball to select beneficiaries. Meanwhile, the Department of Social Welfare and Development extended financial assistance to help the residents with their daily necessities. As Vice Chair of the Senate Committee on Finance, Go also supported several road improvements, construction of a multipurpose building, installation of solar street lights, and acquisition of mini dump trucks in the town. Earlier that day, Go was in the town of Cabarroguis where he joined the 6th Quirino Motorismo event, monitored the operations of the Malasakit Center at Quirino Province Medical Center, and led another relief operation for more indigents. Tulungan po natin sila,” urged Go. "Sa mga itinayo ng Super Health Centers, nakita namin kung gaano kalaki ang naitutulong nito sa komunidad lalo na sa rural areas. ‘Yun po ang layunin ng mga Super Health Centers, ang ilapit sa mamamayan ang serbisyong medikal ng gobyerno,” he added. Through the collective efforts of fellow lawmakers, sufficient funds had been allocated under the Health Facilities Enhancement Program of the Department of Health for 307 Super Health Centers in 2022 and 322 in 2023. DOH, the lead implementing agency, identifies the strategic areas where they will be constructed. In Quirino, necessary funds have been allocated last year for the DOH to construct a Super Health Center in Saguday. More Super Health Centers were funded this year in Aglipay and Nagtipuna. Services offered in Super Health Centers include database management, out-patient, birthing, isolation, diagnostic (laboratory: x-ray and ultrasound), pharmacy and ambulatory surgical unit. Other available services are eye, ear, nose, and throat (EENT) service, oncology centers, physical therapy and rehabilitation center and telemedicine, where remote diagnosis and treatment of patients will be done. Mayroon lang po akong paalala sa inyo, sana po ay maalala n’yo ito sa mahabang panahon: Minsan lang tayo dadaan sa mundong ito. Kung ano pong kabutihan o tulong na pwede natin gawin sa ating kapwa, gawin na po natin ngayon dahil hindi na po tayo babalik sa mundong ito,” said Go. On the same day, Go attended the 6th Quirino Motorismo celebration, and then conducted an inspection of the Super Health Center in Saguday where he also aided indigent residents. The senator also highlighted the construction of Super Health Centers in five municipalities in Agusan del Sur. These municipalities include Esperanza, Bayugan, Sibagat, Santa Josefa, and Trento. More Super Health Centers will be strategically located in particularly far-flung communities, as assessed by DOH, to ensure that Filipinos have more convenient access to basic health services, such as database management, out-patient care, birthing facilities, isolation areas, and diagnostic services such as laboratory tests, x-rays, and ultrasound. It mandates all DOH-run hospitals and the Philippine General Hospital in Manila City to establish their own centers to provide access to medical assistance programs offered by the government. Currently, there are 157 Malasakit Centers established nationwide which have assisted over seven million Filipinos, according to the DOH. Meanwhile, Go reiterated his commitment to support the establishment of more Super Health Centers across the country, considering how they can significantly help reduce hospital occupancy rates while bringing government medical services closer to the grassroots. The senator’s team conducted the relief operations at the respective town and city halls where they distributed grocery packs, shirts, masks, vitamins, and snacks to a total of 54 fire victims while representatives from the Department of Social Welfare and Development provided financial assistance to further help with their recovery. The senator continued that the government remains committed to prioritizing better fire response and preparedness following the enactment of Republic Act No. 11589 or the Bureau of Fire Protection Modernization Act that would strengthen the firefighting capability of the agency. As mandated by the Act, which Go primarily authored and co-sponsored, the bureau undergoes a ten-year modernization program, which includes acquiring new modern fire equipment, hiring additional personnel, and providing specialized training for firefighters, among others. Go, who serves as the head of the Senate Committee on Health and Demography, offered medical assistance to those with health concerns. He advised them to seek the services of the Malasakit Center at Bukidnon Provincial Hospital in Maramag. There are also nearby centers at Northern Mindanao Medical Center and at J.R. Bong Go’s office aids various sectoral groups Agusan del Sur
The Office of Senator Bong Go spearheaded a relief activity aimed at supporting and uplifting various marginalized sectoral groups in Santa Josefa and Trento towns in Agusan Del Sur on Tuesday, 18 April. Go’s staff held the activity at the municipal gym of Santa Josefa and the evacuation center of Trento where they provided grocery packs, snacks, vitamins, shirts, and masks to 450 beneficiaries. The Department of Social Welfare and Development separately provided financial assistance to the affected residents. In his video message, the senator underscored the need for accessible and comprehensive healthcare services that can cater to the medical needs of Filipinos, particularly those in remote and underserved areas. To address this concern, Go has been advocating for the establishment of Super Health Centers nationwide, saying, “Makatutulong po ito sa mga kababayan natin na ilapit po ang serbisyong medikal sa kanila. Ilalagay po ito sa mga strategic areas sa buong Pilipinas.” Through the concerted efforts of lawmakers, the Health Facilities Enhancement Program of the Department of Health has secured adequate funding for the establishment of 307 Super Health Centers in 2022 and 322 more in 2023. DOH, as the lead implementing agency, is responsible for identifying the optimal locations for the construction of these health centers. In Agusan del Sur, necessary funds have been allocated by Congress for the construction of Super Health Centers in Esperanza, Bayugan, Sibagat, Santa Josefa, and Trento. Patients can also benefit from telemedicine services, where remote diagnosis and treatment are available to individuals who are unable to visit the center physically. As the Chair of the Senate Committee on Health and Demography, Go also offered to assist those with health issues as he advised them to visit the Malasakit Center at Democrito O. Plaza Memorial Hospital in Prosperidad. First established in Cebu in 2018, the Malasakit Center is a one-stop shop through which agencies such as the DSWD, DOH, Philippine Health Insurance Corporation, and Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office assist particularly poor and indigent patients by bringing to the lowest amount possible their hospital bill. To date, there are 157 Malasakit Centers nationwide which have assisted over seven million Filipinos, according to the DOH. Go, as Vice Chair of the Senate Committee on Finance, also supported several projects in the province, such as the construction or concreting of local roads in Bayugan City, Bunawan, Esperanza, La Paz, San Luis, and Veruela; construction of multipurpose buildings in Bayugan City and San Luis; construction of evacuation centers in Loreto and Talacogon; construction of riverbank protection structures for the Ihawan River in Loreto; improvement of the Adlayan Riverbank in San Francisco; installation of reinforced concrete pipe culvert with pavement widening in Trento; and purchase and installation of solar street lights in Esperanza. Other major projects he supported are the construction of a new public market and slaughterhouse in Bunawan, the development of the Sibagat public park, the acquisition of ambulances for the local governments of La Paz and San Luis, and the acquisition of dump trucks for the local governments of San Francisco and San Luis. On 30 March, Go also personally visited Santa Josefa, Agusan del Sur where he spearheaded a similar relief operation for more indigents, graced the groundbreaking of the town's Super Health Center, and witnessed the turnover of a road he supported the funding for.
