Sky partners with RunRio for Siargao International Marathon this weekend

To continue its zero-waste management and mangrove protection projects in Siargao Island, Surigao del Norte, running events company Runrio Events, Inc. is holding the Siargao International Marathon with cable, direct-to-home, and broadband provider SKY as official media partner. Thousands of local and international tourists as well as island residents are expected to participate in the destination run on Saturday (July 14) at the Muncipality of del Carmen. The race has five distance categories—3km, 5km, 10km, 21km, and 42km. Island residents may also join for free in the 5km category. “SKY has always been passionate about protecting the environment. We’ve held the SKYathon beach run in the past years for Boracay’s coral reef rehabilitation. Now, we would like to contribute to Siargao’s environmental care by becoming a media partner for the Siargao International Marathon,” said Delbert Santos II, SKY senior marketing manager. Part of the marathon’s route are the coastlines where mangroves from the project were planted last year. The organizers are also bringing in waste management expert to introduce zero-waste management technology in the island. “As early as now, we would like to prevent any environmental damage to happen in Siargao, especially that the island is becoming popular among tourists. With this project, we would like to educate both locals and tourists on how to take care of the island,” said running coach Rio dela Cruz of Runrio Events, Inc.
