PBA: Jeremy Tyler out as TNT import

The import shuffling in the 2018 PBA Commissioner's Cup continues. TNT is the latest to make a move as the KaTropa have moved on from Jeremy Tyler. Agent Sheryl Reyes confirmed the development early Thursday, saying the Tyler's outing against Alaska last May 13 was his last game for TNT. Unfortunately with the turn out of events TNT will replace Jeremy Tyler .. that was his last game .. thanks Jeremy we wish you all the best 🙏 — Sheryl Sanchez Reyes (@FemaleAgentSR) May 16, 2018 Despite the KaTropa being 3-1, Tyler has struggled offensively for TNT so far, including posting only two points in a win vs. Brgy. Ginebra. The KaTropa have a game Friday against Blackwater although the team's reinforcement against the Elite has not been confirmed. Import Joshua Smith, who had TNT in the Finals last season, is reportedly still under contract in Japan.     --- Follow this writer on Twitter, @paullintag8.....»»

TNT shouldn t solely rely on import, Jayson Castro says

MANILA, Philippines – With or without reinforcement, TNT proved it is a force to reckon with.  The KaTropa, who played with an all-Filipino lineup after parting ways with Jeremy Tyler , barely needed an import to dispatch the Blackwater Elite , 120-101, on Friday, May 18, to gain a share of the top spot in ........»»

Rosario plays like an import when KaTropa needed one

TNT sent Jeremy Tyler packing just days before its game against Blackwater on Friday night. And with replacement import Josh Smith failing to make it on time, the KaTropa had to make do with an all-Filipino lineup versus Jarrid Famous and the Elite. Turns out, TNT, even minus a reinforcement, was good enough after crushing Blackwater, 120-101. "It's nice that the locals were really up to the challenge. Boss Ricky Vargas gave us a good motivation at the start of the game. He told the players that even if they have a 6-10 import and we don't have a 6-10 import, all of you are imports," TNT coach Nash Racela said. PBA: Backup is on its way for TNT

Backup is on its way for TNT. The KaTropa are set to be reunited with import Joshua Smith, the very same reinforcement that had the team in the Commissioner's Cup Finals last season. After letting go of Jeremy Tyler, who was unimpressive in four games with TNT, team manager Virgil Villavicencio confirmed Friday that Smith will play in the KaTropa's next game on June 1. The hulking import is expected to touch down in Manila on May 25. Against the Blackwater Elite, TNT went All-Filipino but it hardly mattered as the KaTropa rolled to a 120-101 win. Head coach Nash Racela also confirmed that Smith's team in Japan has been eliminated from contention. That means unless out of the blue happens, Smith's scheduled should be right on track and he will be available when TNT takes on Columbian two weeks from now. "To tell you honestly, si Joshua Smith had a stint in Japan. Based on his schedule, we’re really looking at end of May, so during the All Star break," Racela said. "Yeah, they’re already out doon sa Japan. Right now, he’s available," he added.   --- Follow this writer on Twitter, @paullintag8.....»»

PBA: Blackwater fails to take advantage of import-less TNT

If the Blackwater Elite were to take any advantage against any opponent, it would be the import-less TNT KaTropa. Unfortunately for the now 0-6 Elite, the well-oiled machine that is the KaTropa flexed their muscles and blew out their opponents, 120-101.  For coach Bong Ramos, facing their import-less opponents was more of an advantage for the veteran-laden team, as their engines seemed to hum better after ousting import Jeremy Tyler. "Mas maganda pa nga silang walang import kasi they are easy to ano, kabisado nila yung sistema, yung import nila, nawawala e di ba?" Ramos said after the game.  "Matatawag nila yung plays nila na ginagamit nila sa all-Filipino na hindi nila ginagamit, limitado because they are adjusting to their import." With their struggles, import Jarrid Famous didn't help the cause, only scoring 11 points on a two out of five shooting clip. Despite the loss against an import-less squad, Ramos admitted that there were various kinks left to be straightened, as they could not match the offensive schemes TNT exhibited, which is virtually an All-Filipino team. "Kaya kung titignan mo, merong time na okay kami. Pag-rotate ko, bigla kaming bumabagsak. Doon makikita mo, hindi kami fluid. Wala kaming, yun nga. Hindi kami consistent." With the looming All-Star week starting Monday, the Elite will get some well needed rest -- and time to enhance their plays.  Ramos will certainly make the team work for the entire week, as they continue to search for the elusive win.  Despite their winless record, they could still theoretically make the playoffs if they win five straight, but if not, the newly-installed mentor will have just to promise another thing.  "Kung wala naman, we will still continue to play hard. Kasi nag-aaral kami. Yun naman ang sinabi ko. It's ano e. Work in progress kami. Kung ano man ang gagawin namin ngayon, ano na yun, tuloy-tuloy na yun for next conference."   __     Follow this writer on Twitter, @philipptionary. .....»»

Racela remains upbeat despite TNT’s first loss

ANTIPOLO --- Nash Racela admits that TNT is still in the process of feeling each other out. That's why despite the 100-110 defeat to Alaska on Sunday, the soft-spoken mentor is hardly concerned with how his wards are faring so far this 2018 PBA Commissioner's Cup. "I think at this point, we should be happy that with the way that we're playing, we still got three wins out of the four," he said. Infusing new guys in his roster bannered by new acquisitions Terrence Romeo, Jericho Cruz, and Don Trollano, on top of import Jeremy Tyler, Racela expects that there will certainly be more or less an adjustment period that the KaTropa needs to undergo. ANTIPOLO CITY, Rizal --- Alaska's winning streak continues at the expense of TNT. The Aces rolled to their third straight victory in the 2018 PBA Commissioner's Cup, stopping the KaTropa, 110-100, Sunday at the Ynares Center here. Alaska improved to 3-1 in the standings, tied with TNT at the top. "I didn't expect that," head coach Alex Compton said as the Aces led by as many as 25 points in the fourth period, 92-67. "I got a little scared at the end but I was very happy with our defensive energy," he added. Vic Manuel's mid-season tear continues, leading Alaska with 29 points and 12 rebounds. This is the second time in three games that the Manuel has set a new PBA career high in points. He scored 27 against Blackwater and 26 vs. Columbian. Import Antonio Campbell was also impressive, finishing with 23 points and 20 rebounds for the Aces. Against one of the league's best offenses, Alaska actually matched TNT on offense, firing 34 points right in the opening period with Campbell leading the way. The Aces then pulled away for good in the second quarter and mostly just the KaTropa at bay in the second half. Five players scored in double figures for TNT with Jayson Castro leading the crew with 18 points and six assists. Terrence Romeo was right behind with 17 markers and eight dimes. PBA: Castro wills TNT past Ginebra to maintain perfect start

Jayson Castro is still TNT's one true alpha. That got proven again Sunday as the Blur led TNT to a big 96-92 victory over Brgy. Ginebra in the 2018 PBA Commissioner's Cup at the MOA Arena. Castro was the star of the KaTropa offense and TNT maintained its perfect start in the mid-season joust, gaining a share of first place with a 3-0 record. The Blur was brilliant all throughout, scoring a game-high 27 points as he basically took over with his import and his new star runningmate both struggling offensively. Jeremy Tyler only scored two points and Terrence Romeo was no better, finishing with only three markers. Still, Castro's effort was more than enough, with his final two triples in the fourth ending up as crucial baskets that allowed the KaTropa to hold off the Gin Kings. "I think at this point, the nice thing having depth in the guard rotation, when some guys struggle, we could use some of the others," head coach Nash Racela said. After Castro, RR Pogot scored 15 for TNT while Troy Rosario added 14. For the Gin Kings, who now drop to 0-2, Japeth Aguilar and Joe Devance led the team with 19 points each. Import Charles Garcia scored 15.   The Scores:   TNT 96 — Castro 27, Pogoy 15, Rosario 14, Trollano 11, Semerad 7, Taha 6, Cruz 5, Paredes 4, Romeo 3, Carey 2, Tyler 2, Garcia 0, Reyes 0. GINEBRA 92 — J. PBA: Tautuaa suspended one game for 'kicking' TNT import

The 2018 PBA Commissioner's Cp is barely a week old and the league has already imposed a number of fines on multiple players. New Globalport center Mo Tautuaa took the brunt of the first batch of fines this conference as the former no. 1 pick was slapped with a P35,000 penalty for his actions against TNT during Sunday's opener. Mo was ejected from the game following a "kicking incident" against KaTropa import Jeremy Tyler. Following a dunk, Tautuaa appeared to kick Tyler as he was hanging from the rim. Tautuaa's fine was based from a flagrant foul penalty 1 and a flarant foul penalty 2 he received from the KaTropa game. On top of that, Mo is suspended for the Batang Pier's outing against Meralco Friday. Other players getting fines were Globalport import Malcolm White (P5,000 for F1), TNT's Don Trollano (P5,000 for F1), Allein Maliksi (P5,000 for F1), and Joseph Gabayni (5,000 for F1).   --- Follow this writer on Twitter, @paullintag8.....»»
