LUCENA CITY - The New People's Army (NPA) operating in Quezon province on Tuesday claimed responsibility for the killing of a village chief in San Narciso town. Cleo del Mundo, spokesperson of the NPA Apolonio Mendoza Command, said a rebel hit squad killed Ruben Carabido in the house of his sibling in Barangay Busok-Busokan around noontime Monday. In her Facebook post on Tuesday afternoon, Del Mundo said Carabido was gunned down by NPA rebels while watching who among the tenants in one of the big estates he was overseeing would bring out coconuts without permission. Village chief gunned down in Batangas

SAN PEDRO CITY-A barangay (village) captain was shot dead by motorcycle-riding gunmen in San Juan town in Batangas province barely two months into the village and youth council elections. Mario Sulit, captain of Barangay Hugom, was outside his garage when he was shot around 9 p.m. on Thursday, a report from the Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, Quezon (Calabarzon) police said on Friday. The gunmen reportedly escaped on a motorcycle towards the town of Lobo. Sulit died while being taken to San Juan District Hospital. Alleged ‘hit man’ gunned down in Quezon

Drug enforcement unit collared Ariel Espaltero, 30, after he sold "shabu" (crystal meth) to an undercover police officer in a transaction in Barangay (village) Pahinga around 5:50 p.m., Quezon police chief, Senior Supt.
