Livid vet’s target is sexy nymphet, not hunky guy

Seasoned Maverick wanted to set the record straight. A wild rumor made the rounds that Attractive Guy had rejected the amorous advances of SM. Of course, SM didn't exactly relish the unflattering rumor of being a dumpee. Belatedly, livid SM corrected the impression that AG had the gumption to say "no can do." In the first place, SM wasn't even interested in AG. Truth to tell, SM was eyeing AG's leading lady, Ravishing Coquette. Makes perfect sense. After all, SM is now out and about and is no longer hiding a rather befuddling romantic predilection. Palace blames inflation for missed 2018 GDP growth target

MANILA, Philippines --- Last year's inflation, which hit a new 10-year high, is to blame for the Philippine economy's slower pace in 2018, Malacaang said Thursday.   Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo made the remark after the economy grew 6.2 percent in 2018 as the 2018 fourth quarter Gross Domestic Product (GDP) settled at 6.1 percent, bringing the full-year average below the 6.5-6.9 percent goal.   READ: PH missed 2018 GDP growth goal due to high prices   "That was because of the inflation eh. Inflation rate ang naging problema, 'yan ang sinasabi ng economic managers," Panelo said in a Palace briefing, adding that the full-year average is just "...Keep on reading: Palace blames inflation for missed 2018 GDP growth target.....»»

NCAA Season 94 volleyball: Solid service game key in Lady Altas’ win

University of Perpetual Help head coach Macky Carino credited his team’s solid performance at the service line as key to the Lady Altas’ victory over the twice-to-beat College of St. Benilde Tuesday in the NCAA Season 94 women’s volleyball Final Four at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan. The Lady Altas landed 12 aces including crucial service winners in the fourth set to beat the Lady Blazers, 25-23, 25-21, 20-25, 25-23, and force a winner-take-all next week for the right to face defending two-time champion Arellano University in the best-of-three Finals.    “Ang naging key sa amin ngayon ay ‘yung target namin sa service talaga,” said Carino, who is looking to steer the Lady Altas back in the championship round since Perpetual won it all in Season 89. “‘Yung attack namin parang secondary na lang pero ang major talaga namin ay service.” Cindy Imbo and Jenny Gaviola scored three aces each in Perpetual’s revenge win over its elimination round tormentor. Imbo nailed crucial back-to-back service winners in the fourth set during the Lady Altas’ impressive closing 11-1 rally from a 22-14 deficit. Carino also took advantage of his familiarity with the tendencies of majority of CSB players, whom he handled two years ago. The mentor steered the Lady Blazers into the throne in Season 91 before transferring to Perpetual last year. “‘Yung majority doon sa kabila akin pa eh. Napag-iwanan ko pa eh. So alam ko pa rin kung paano ko pinalakas yun eh. Advantage on our side because alam ko kung paano sila gumalaw,” he said. “Parang siyempre noong walang-wala pa ang mga yan paano ko sila napalakas at na-develop alam ko rin kung paano sila bawian pagdating sa mga plays namin,” added Carino. Perpetual and CSB will go at it one last time on Tuesday at 4:00 p.m.   --- Follow this writer on Twitter, @fromtheriles.....»»

Philippines aims to top 2017 s fifth place finish in 10th ASEAN Para Games

Exactly a year before the 10th ASEAN Para Games kicks off in 2020, the Philippine Paralympic Committee held a formal countdown kickoff last Friday at the Novotel Manila in Cubao, Quezon City. Around 2,000 para athletes with physical, visual, and intellectual disabilities from Southeast Asian countries will travel to the Philippines as the nation hosts the biannual multisport event in January 2020. It will take place after the SEA Games in December 2019. As of press time, 14 medal events were already finalized namely Archery, Athletics, Badminton, Boccia, Chess, Cycling, Volleysitting, Wheelchair-Basketball, Goalball, Judo, Powerlifting, Swimming, Tenpin Bowling, and Table Tennis. However, PPC President Michael Barredo expressed that after some considerations, four more events might be included in the list. "We have a minimum of 14 events, a maximum of 18. We have 14 confirmed, two under evaluation, two requested in this last meeting. Yung dalawang for evaluation is paratriathlon which will be held in Subic. Yung isa, football 7-a-side, cerebral palsy ito. Ang dalawang hiningi na event kung pwede is shooting at wheelchair tennis, yun ang hinahabol," Barredo explained. He also expressed that the Philippines will for sure be represented in the 14 confirmed events. As for the other four sports, the committee is still in the process of team formation. This delegation will go all out as the host country will target to beat 2017's fifth place finish where the Philippines bagged 20 golds, 20 silvers, and 29 bronzes. "Magandang conservative target for Para Games is at least fourth place. Kung kakayanin natin na talunin yung top three countries, pipilitin natin yan," Barredo added. This is the second time that the Philippines will host the prestigious regional parasporting event. The first hosting was held back in 2005......»»

PBA: Commissioner Marcial bares plan to build permanent office and practice gym

PBA Commissioner Willie Marcial bared the league's plans of building a new permanent facility that will house the league's office and a practice gym. He confirmed the plans revealed by PBA Chairman Ricky Vargas in his speech during the PBA Press Corps Awards Night.  "There is also the major matter of fulfilling our dream. With the PBA at 44 years old, stop renting office space. The board has started talking about building our own home -- the home of the PBA, which I hope we are all excited for," the POC president said.  However, the amiable head of the first professional basketball league in Asia downplayed the idea of making the building as the new home of the league's games. The league is currently officed in Libis, Quezon City, and before that, stationed at the ULTRA as they made its adjoining arena as its home stadium in the early part of the 1990s. In the proposed complex will contain the league's offices, a practice gym, a wellness center, and a chapel. They are considering Quezon City and an unnamed location as prospects, but nothing is set yet in stone since the Board of Governors are still considering several factors before giving the go-signal for construction. Marcial added that the league is considering the price of the parcel of land and its accessibility before laying the groundwork for a move. "Meron na kami pero titignan pa rin namin kung magkano. Kesa magrenta tayo, gumawa na tayo ng building na may practice gym. Hindi arena. Yun ang plano," shared Marcial.  "Opisina, fitness gym, pati chapel. Pero titignan natin kung hanggang saan ang ma-eexplore namin." The good news is once they determine the cost of buying the land, construction of the area may start as early as this year, as per Vargas' target stated to them.   __   Follow this writer on Twitter, @philipptionary......»»
