Gov’t failed to pay DPWH contractors P100B–Andaya

The government failed to pay private companies more than P100 billion in 2018 due to a "corrupt system" that continued to control the payment scheme for public works contracts, according to House appropriations committee chair Rep. Rolando Andaya Jr.   In a statement on Friday, the Camarines Sur congressman said the government's failure to pay for completed projects might drive away contractors and derail the Duterte administration's "Build, Build, Build" infrastructure program.   "This gargantuan amount of payables has reincarnated an old system that forces (public works) contractors to cough up kickbacks just to be paid for completed infrastructure projects," ...Keep on reading: Gov’t failed to pay DPWH contractors P100B–Andaya.....»»

PSE rejects Landbank offer for stake in PDS

The Philippine Stock Exchange has rejected an offer from state-owned Land Bank of the Philippines to buy its stake in capital market infrastructure provider Philippine Dealing System Holdings Corp. at a reduced valuation.   The PSE board found Landbank's offer of P215 per share or P281.96 million for its 20 percent stake too low, PSE sources privy to the discussions told the Inquirer.   A source said Landbank's offer was discussed recently at a board meeting. "The decision was not to sell at this price. It's too low. Our old offer was even higher," one PSE source said.   When PSE itself was making a bid for PDS---the holding firm for fixed-income trading ...Keep on reading: PSE rejects Landbank offer for stake in PDS.....»»

‘Good’ news at BOC: Smaller bribes

"Tara" (bribe money) is still pervasive in the Bureau of Customs (BOC), but there may be a reason for relief.   The amount is now down to P5,000 per shipment just for one office, from P35,000 in October last year, according to BOC officials.   Customs Commissioner Rey Leonardo Guerrero on Thursday appealed to importers, brokers and other port users to veer away from the tara system---the payment of bribe money to facilitate the release of cargo.   At a press conference, where he presented the BOC's 10-point agenda for 2019, Guerrero said the fight against graft and corruption in the agency was a two-way process.   "We can't do it ...Keep on reading: ‘Good’ news at BOC: Smaller bribes.....»»
