Bong Go honors police at PNP Service PSBRC Class 1998-Alpha’s 25th Anniversary
Senator Bong Go reiterated his support for the brave men and women who dedicated their lives to maintaining peace and order in the country during the 25th Anniversary celebration of the Philippine National Police Service Public Safety Basic Recruit Course Class 1998-Alpha at the Acacia Hotel in Davao City. “Alam n’yo ang suporta ko sa inyo noon pa. Full support talaga kami sa mga pulis. Hindi magiging successful ang administrasyon ni former president (Rodrigo Duterte) kung hindi dahil sa inyong lahat,” Go said. Go affirmed his commitment to continuing these efforts, pledging to create more programs and measures that will uplift the lives of police officers and their families. It can be recalled that prior to his election in the Senate, Go served as a Special Assistant to the President during the Duterte administration, during which, he helped Duterte fulfill the salary hike of the government's military and uniformed personnel. The senator has also introduced Senate Bill No. 422, aiming to provide free legal assistance to members of the armed forces and police who face charges related to their official duties. Recognizing the heavy responsibilities placed on these uniformed personnel, the senator emphasized the importance of ensuring they receive proper legal support. Go also agreed with Defense Secretary Gilberto "Gibo" Teodoro, Jr.'s position opposing the introduction of mandatory contributions and elimination of automatic indexation for military pensioners. Meanwhile, Go urged all those who serve in the various branches of the nation's defense and security forces to maintain their focus on serving the Filipino people. The senator assured them that he will continue to stand by their side and provide support to the best of his capacity. Salamat at magandang hapon sa inyong lahat,” he concluded. The post Bong Go honors police at PNP Service PSBRC Class 1998-Alpha’s 25th Anniversary appeared first on Daily Tribune......»»
New slogan, same tack?
We remember distinctly how students of the seventies were made to sing to the strains of the then-required Bagong Pagsilang hymn, a paean to the newly established New Society of Ferdinand Marcos Sr., father of the incumbent. The march, incorrectly referred to by its chorus Bagong Lipunan (New Society), was commissioned during the presidency of the older Marcos for the Kilusang Bagong Lipunan, a movement introduced upon the declaration of martial law in 1972. Its lyrics were written by the legendary Levi Celerio and the music was composed by Felipe de Leon in 1973. “May bagong silang. May bago nang buhay. Bagong bansa, bagong galaw sa Bagong Lipunan!” The new generation may not have much recollection of the song other than the version of the present-day rock band Plethora, whose rendition was used as the campaign anthem by the son, Bongbong Marcos, during last year’s presidential campaign. It was also used by Marcos Jr. during the 78th Leyte Landing anniversary last October and his camp visit to the Eastern Mindanao Command in Davao City a week later. “Magbabago ang lahat, tungo sa pag-unlad. At ating itanghal: Bagong Lipunan!” The composer’s eldest son, Felipe, recounted that two days after the declaration of martial law, at around 2 a.m., two military trucks came to their house with an officer who asked for a “hymn and a march for the New Society,’’ as requested supposedly by then First Lady Imelda Marcos, to be delivered in a couple of days. “Ang gabi’y nagmaliw nang ganap. At lumipas na ang magdamag. Madaling araw ay nagdiriwang. May umagang namasdan.” The song was first released on radio and television during the early days of martial law as an anthem to trumpet Marcos Sr.’s vision of a new society for Filipinos. It also gave rise to the movement called Kilusang Bagong Lipunan, a political vehicle of the then administration. “Ngumiti na ang pag-asa, sa umagang anong ganda!” Depending on which side of the fence you were on those days, the present-day rendition of the march evokes memories that are either bad or good. Critics see it as nothing but propaganda that brings back chills to their spines, while others consider it a patriotic song that could help guide the country’s progress. That part of history came rushing back to us, particularly when the incumbent came up with his Bagong Pilipinas as the overarching theme of his administration’s brand of governance and leadership. Malacañang says this official branding, as contained in Memorandum Circular 24, calls for a deep and fundamental transformation in all sectors of society and government. The new logo was “produced internally” by the government’s lead communications arm without the use of public funds, according to the Presidential Communications Office. Take note, Bongbong’s new campaign slogan and logo came less than a week following Pagcor’s logo controversy. It’s common for presidential administrations to come up with government slogans, but not so common for them to launch them with a logo. There’s Rodrigo Duterte’s “Change is Coming,” Benigno Aquino III’s “Daang Matuwid,” and Joseph Estrada’s “Erap Para sa Mahirap,” to name a few. The PCO explained that the Bagong Pilipinas logo shows various stages of development in the Philippines’ journey toward the future. The three red stripes refer to the Philippines’ post-war agricultural and rural development, the post-colonial period, and the current metropolitan development. The blue stripes show a “progressive Philippines that leverages technological advancement in pursuing sustainable industrial development.” The rising sun signifies the dawn of a new Philippines, while the weave pattern illustrates the interconnectedness and unity of the Filipino people. “Overall, the Bagong Pilipinas logo embodies the Marcos administration’s vision for the country, emphasizing unity, involvement, and the bayanihan culture as the main fibers and components for its full realization,” the PCO said. We really don’t know if this new vision of the younger Marcos would translate into something similar to what his father started back then. Or would it eventually become a political vehicle just as his father’s was? At any rate, we just hope that the son would live up to the expectations of most Filipinos and that in the future, the memory of it won’t send chills down our spines. *** e-mail-mannyangeles27@gmail.com The post New slogan, same tack? appeared first on Daily Tribune......»»

Bong Go leads relief op in Tagum City, Davao del Norte
A day before his birthday, Senator Christopher “Bong” Go personally spearheaded a relief operation for more than a thousand disadvantaged Filipinos in Tagum City, Davao del Norte on Tuesday, June 13. Recognizing the significant impact of various crises on poor communities, Go, together with Congressman Pantaleon “Bebot” Alvarez and Governor Edwin Jubahib, made it a priority to provide relief and support to affected individuals and communities to uplift the lives of the poor. “Mawalang galang na po sa inyo kasi lagi kong naririnig, ‘salamat Senador Bong Go, salamat (dating) pangulong (Rodrigo) Duterte’. Sa totoo lang, wag kayong magpasalamat sa amin, kami ang dapat na magpasalamat sa inyo dahil binigyan n'yo kami ng pagkakataon na makapagserbisyo sa inyong lahat,” Go expressed in his speech. “Hindi ko sasayangin ang oras na ibinigay n'yo sa akin. Ako (ay) magtatrabaho para sa Pilipino. Sanay akong magtrabaho dahil yan ang nakasanayan ko noon pa man for the past 24 years,” he added. Held at the Davao del Norte Training Center, Go and his team distributed grocery packs, masks, vitamins and shirts to 1,500 struggling residents. Some beneficiaries also received mobile phones, shoes, watches, caps, and balls for basketball and volleyball. A team from the Department of Social Welfare and Development was also in attendance and extended financial assistance. Simultaneously, Go also provided more support to the community in partnership with the Department of Labor and Employment through its Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers (TUPAD) program which held an orientation for another 721 individuals in the same venue. The said beneficiaries received similar additional assistance from Go’s office. The senator took the opportunity to commend DOLE for its proactive approach in addressing the challenges faced by disadvantaged and displaced workers. The TUPAD program, aims to provide emergency employment and livelihood opportunities to those who have lost their jobs or sources of income due to crisis situations. Recognizing the importance of accessible and affordable healthcare services, Senator Go, Chair of the Senate Committee on Health and Demography, also promoted the services of the Malasakit Centers as a one-stop shop for medical assistance programs. In his remarks, Go encouraged the beneficiaries to take advantage of the Malasakit Center at Davao Regional Medical Center in the city. The Malasakit Centers program, initiated by Go in 2018, aims to streamline the process of availing medical assistance by bringing together various government agencies under one roof. Go also mentioned that a Super Health Center is set to be established in the city, as identified by the Department of Health. Additionally, Super Health Centers will be constructed in the Island Garden City of Samal, Carmen, Talaingod, and two more in Panabo City. Super Health Centers offer database management, out-patient, birthing, isolation, diagnostic (laboratory: x-ray, ultrasound), pharmacy, and ambulatory surgical unit. Other available services in Super Health Centers are eye, ear, nose, and throat (EENT) service; oncology centers; physical therapy and rehabilitation center; and telemedicine, where remote diagnosis and treatment of patients will be done. Through the collective efforts of fellow lawmakers, sufficient funds had been allocated for 307 Super Health Centers in 2022 and 322 in 2023. The DOH, as the lead implementing agency, identifies the strategic areas where they will be constructed. To help contribute to the city’s progress and improved connectivity, Go, who also serves as Vice Chair of the Senate Committee on Finance, likewise supported the construction of roads in several barangays. On the same day, Go attended the First Year Davao del Norte Insurgency-Free Anniversary at the Davao del Norte gymnasium. He also graced the groundbreaking of a Super Health Center and led another distribution activity for more indigents in Carmen. ### The post Bong Go leads relief op in Tagum City, Davao del Norte appeared first on Daily Tribune......»»
A Rose at the ‘Tertulia’ in Intramuros
After the successful staging in 2022 of a fabulous ball and an awards night, the Philippine Heritage Society held a tertulia as it continues its support for local arts and culture, as well as the creative soul of Filipinos. Britannica defines tertulia as a “type of Spanish literary salon that was popular in Spain from at least the 17th century and that eventually replaced the more formal academies. Tertulias were held in private homes at first, but from the early 19th century they met in clubs and cafés.” The Philippine Heritage Society Casa Blanca in Intramuros was the setting for Tertulia Flores de Mayo: A Celebration of Fashion, Arts Music on 30 May. It was directed by Nathan de Leon, who founded the society together with Sherwin Sozon, a businessman and opera singer who leads LyrOpera; and Tess Castro, a former bank executive who is now a philanthropist and heritage advocate. “Lubos akong nagagalak na naka-unang anibersaryo pa lamang ang The Philippine Heritage Society pero tumitibay na ang ating pundasyon, at tayo ay nakagagawa na ng mga kongkretong hakbang upang itaguyod ang mga pamanang sining sa ating lahi. At ngayong gabi nga, ating ipinagdiriwang ang Flores de Mayo sa pamamagitan ng fashion, arts at music (I am delighted that The Philippine Heritage Society, just on its first anniversary, is growing stronger, and we have been able to take concrete steps to promote our cultural heritage. And tonight, we celebrate Flores de Mayo through fashion, arts and music),” Castro said in her welcome speech. [caption id="attachment_142323" align="aligncenter" width="525"] The Philippine Heritage Society with co-founder Nathan de Leon (extreme left) and members serving as models at the Tertulia.[/caption] She continued: “Marami mang pagbabago sa panahon ngayon at sa ating mga Filipino, dahil sa modernisasyon at bagong teknolohiya, nanatiling buhay at matibay ang tradisyon na ito, na patuloy na sumasalamin sa ating malalim na pananampalataya, mayamang kasaysayan at makulay na kultura (Despite the many changes in today’s time and in our Filipino society, due to modernization and new technology, this tradition remains alive and resilient, continuing to reflect our deep faith, rich history and vibrant culture).” An entertaining and elegant night Hosted by JM Salamat, the night was a showcase of the best of Filipino creativity. World-class entertainment was provided by Ana Feleo of the LyrOpera of the Philippines, who performed Agot Espino’s “Kundiman sa Langit” and “Bituing Marikit” by Nicanor Abelardo. The UP Filipiniana Dance Group swayed to “Binoyugan” and “Maria Clara Dance Pitik Mingaw.” There was the Marcy Band and Prinsipe Makata. Tenor Randy Gilongo sang “Kundi Man Mahalin” by National Artists Ernani Cuenco and Levi Celerio, and “Madaling Araw.” Co-founder Sozon sang “Kalesa” by Cuenco and “Ikaw ang Mahal Ko” by George Hernandez. The highlight of the night was when the glamorous members of the group offered flowers to the Virgin Mary during the Flores de Mayo Fashion Walk segment. Led by this year’s “hermana,” Mache Torres-Ackerman, the awesome women were Chanel Sun, Sophia Yara, Jennifer Tipton Angeles, Minerva Racuya, Isabel Tiqui Dunn, Maricris Callo, Charo Laude, Ruby Chua, Loubelle Gardiola, Isabel Dennise Garcia and Aileen Geralde. They were the muses of designers Frankie de Leon, Oskar Peralta, Ronaldo Arnaldo, Ole Morabe, Peri Diaz and jewelry god Gerry Sunga. The night also attracted such fashion luminaries as Oscar Atendido, Zardo Austria, George Yano, Raymond Villanueva and Pando Manipon. Designer and muse as cultural protectors A compelling designer-muse collaboration on that elegant night was between Lito Perez and entrepreneur and philanthropist Rose Tolentino Santiago. “Pink Rose became a valued client even before the pandemic. Her favorite color is pink, thus Pink Rose is her nickname,” Perez explained. “She wore a fully embroidered terno reminiscent of the carnival queens of the 1920s. It is a baro’t saya and matching panuelo and long-train tapiz. The gown is made of embroidered American tulle and lace.” [caption id="attachment_142326" align="aligncenter" width="525"] Radiant in pink, Rose in a Lloyd Arceo terno ensemble[/caption] Within the realm of fashion and design, Pink Rose admires the works of Perez, considering him one of the finest Filipino designers. “Lito’s designs reflect his deep love for Philippine heritage, showcasing the rich tapestry of Filipino culture through his creations. I appreciate Lito’s dedication to preserving and incorporating elements of Philippine traditions and aesthetics into his designs, as it serves as a testament to the beauty and uniqueness of Filipino artistry,” she enthused. Alongside her spiritual devotion, Santiago is committed to preserving Filipino culture and traditions, ensuring that the younger generation never forgets their roots. In her admiration for Perez, she finds inspiration in his designs that celebrate the rich heritage of the Philippines. As a proud Filipina, Santiago holds her cultural heritage dear to her heart. She cherishes the traditions and values instilled in her by her ancestors and believes it is essential for young Filipinos not to forget their roots. She emphasizes the importance of preserving Filipino culture, traditions, and historical sites. Through this safeguarding, she believes that future generations will be able to appreciate their heritage and maintain a strong connection to their identity as Filipinos. In honor of the Mother Pink Rose stands as a testament to the power of unwavering faith, deep cultural appreciation, and the enduring spirit of the Filipino people. She was excited to participate in the “Tertulia Flores de Mayo,” as the Blessed Virgin Mary plays a pivotal part in her life. When her mother left her at a young age, she was overwhelmed with sadness and longing for maternal care. She sought solace in her faith and became a devoted follower of the Blessed Mother. In her belief, she found the comforting presence of a mother figure who would listen to her and understand the deepest thoughts and emotions of her heart. In her expression of devotion, Santiago has embraced a selfless approach. She believes that her acts of charity and kindness are not contingent on counting donations or material offerings. Instead, she believes that her good deeds should come from the pure intentions of her heart. She sees Mary as the ultimate example of a loving and caring mother, who extends her protection and guidance to all, regardless of material wealth or status. “The reverence and devotion I hold for the Blessed Mother stems from my acknowledgment of her divine role as the Mother of God,” Santiago professed. “For me, Mary is more than just a figure in religious teachings; she is the epitome of love, compassion, and nurturing. Through my devotion to Mary, I find solace and strength, believing that the Blessed Mother can take care of me in ways that no one else can.” The post A Rose at the ‘Tertulia’ in Intramuros appeared first on Daily Tribune......»»
Wide-ranging partnerships define the new ABS-CBN
Here’s proof that ABS-CBN has been seriously taking itself in its new avowed role as a content supplier to the entertainment industry as well as online media: Since May of last year, the Lopez enterprise has been a major partner of Pinoy Interactive Entertainment, a company that has begun to make its mark on the entertainment scene with its acronym PIE. Billed as the country’s first multiscreen, real-time interactive channel, PIE is a collaborative project of ABS-CBN, BEAM, 917 Ventures and KROMA Entertainment, which boasts of being “tradigital,” meaning engaged in creating traditional and digital outputs. BEAM, KROMA and 917 Ventures are all under Globe Telecom. ABS-CBN’s involvement with PIE is overseen by the towering (as in basketball player-tall) Jamie Lopez, the company’s head of digital business. Ian Monsod, once known as a theater actor and music man, heads BEAM. He is the son of the famous and influential couple Christian Monsod, one of the framers of the 1987 Constitution, and renowned economist Winnie Monsod. [caption id="attachment_137021" align="aligncenter" width="896"] PHOTOGRAPHS COURTESY KROMA ENTERTAINMENT | Kroma Entertainment CEO Ian Monsod (second from left) and Kroma head of Broadcasting Jil Go with ABS-CBN chief of staff Connie Lopez and PIE Channel head Alex Asuncion.[/caption] The PIE company was launched last year to media people and to v/bloggers only through a Zoom conference. To mark its first anniversary this year, the company held a face-to-face conference with the media and v/bloggers at Pandan Asian Restaurant in QC, just some blocks away from the ABS-CBN studios. Interaction with the company’s shows is mainly through digital devices. On its second year, the interactive channel promises a platform where people can increase their chances of winning while having fun by simply clicking on their mobile phones or engaging via the website. Or as its tagline puts it: “Pindot PIEnalo ka dahil kada pindot, PIEnalo ka more!” ABS-CBN stars Stars from ABS-CBN topbill many of PIE’s shows. For instance, Sinong Manok Mo? is headlined by momshie and pop-culture icon Jolina Magdangal, joined by It’s Showtime “Ate Girl” Jackie Gonzaga and comedian Eric Nicolas. [caption id="attachment_137022" align="aligncenter" width="525"] JOLINA Magdangal and Eric Nicolas.[/caption] Sino’ng Manok Mo? airs Saturday and Sunday nights, 7 to 8 p.m. A co-host in the show is Paris-born and -raised Ralph Malibunas, a contestant on ABS-CBN’s Pinoy Big Brother, where he revealed that he didn’t mind working as a caregiver and park attendant for some years. The seemingly suddenly famous Jennica Garcia of the ABS-CBN series Dirty Linen cannot be happier that Pie Channel recently also gave her a chance to co-host Ur Da Boss with Melai Cantiveros (Magdangal’s co-host in the morning show Magandang Buhay). [caption id="attachment_137025" align="aligncenter" width="896"] MELAI Cantiveros and Jennica Garcia.[/caption] Garcia said she felt un-ready to be a host as she had not done that kind of job before. Her smart solution: “Iniisip ko na lang na (I just think that) for this show, I’m going to be the Gen Z version of Jean Garcia.” Jean Garcia is her mom, whose showbiz fame began as one of the hosts of the well-loved 80’s and 90’s musical variety youth show on GMA 7, German Moreno’s That’s Entertainment. Even Jennica’s father, then-actor Jigo Garcia, was a That’s Entertainment mainstay. Ur Da Boss airs Monday to Friday, 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Dramatic actress Charlie Dizon seems to be not getting major follow-up exposures after she made waves as an obsessed fan in the film The Paulo Avelino Story. So let’s all hope her being made a mainstay in the PIE show Mga Kwento ng Dilim can lead to a series on ABS-CBN, PIE or elsewhere. Angeline Quinto, meanwhile, hosts The Chosen One (TCO): Kakatacute an interactive piliserye with comedian Chad Kinis. The show’s weekly elimination show is hosted by actor Jameson Blake and reality show alum Karina Bautista. [caption id="attachment_137023" align="aligncenter" width="896"] KARINA Bautista and Jameson Blake.[/caption] The channel also has a teen narrative offering, Para Sa All, headlined by Mutya Orquia this month. Another teen show, Pak na Pak! is hosted by Vivoree, Aljon Mendoza, Anji Salvacion, Jeremy G., Igi Boy Flores, Sheena Belarmino and Gello Marquez. Then there’s the daily show Matching-Matching Mini Game, which uses customized PIE cards inspired by the classic Filipino card game ungguy-ungguyan. For late sleepers, PIE offers the adult show SPG: Saktong Pang Gabi, a naughty evening talk show topbilled by comedian Negi and supported by MNL48’s Rans Rifol and actor-model Argel Saycon. [caption id="attachment_137024" align="aligncenter" width="896"] RANS Rifol and comedian Negi.[/caption] Expanding content reach ABS-CBN Corp. has declared that it is keen on forging more partnerships to expand content reach in a bid to secure its financial future. “We’re willing to work with any partner, whether in free, pay TV or online streaming,” said Carlo Katigbak, president and CEO of ABS-CBN Corp, during the company’s annual stakeholder meeting. Hence, it’s taken on partnerships here and abroad, such as with Amazon Prime Video to syndicate a TV series, and a distribution deal with India’s MX Player. It also has partnerships with Netflix, Hong Kong-based Viu and Youtube. “We decided to shed off all assets not relevant to storytelling… The new ABS-CBN is learning to partner with other platforms,” Katigbak added. ABS-CBN’s partnerships on the domestic front include a milestone deal with its media rival, GMA Network, Inc. The two signed a deal to produce a teleserye, and the Kapuso network can now use ABS-CBN’s iWantTFC streaming platform to widen its international reach. ABS-CBN has also inked content partnerships with the Pangilinan-owned TV5, PIE Channel, AMBS and the A2Z channel founded by Bro. Eddie Villanueva. The company managed to trim its net losses in 2022, now at P2.63 billion after posting a P5.67-billion loss in the preceding year. At all these instances, I have admired her from afar," wrote Quintos in a Facebook post with a video greeting from Robredo. “But always, always there is the gratitude conveyed most sincerely. This video message was sent after the Angat Buhay event last March.
