Scouting crucial in international play says Coach Franz
When it comes to talking about the national team, in our case now with Gilas Pilipinas, different people will have different opinions as to what is the most important factor. A great point is that the national team absolutely has to have all the best players available. Another great point is that the national team needs the right coach. In the midst of all this, a crucial factor often tends to get lost in the mix. When it comes to national team play, scouting becomes all the more essential for success. "Those players na kalaban niyo, probably you’ll just be playing against them once or twice," Adamson coach Franz Pumaren said on Coaches Unfiltered. Coach Franz is one of the rare ones to have the chance to both play and coach in the Philippine national team. "No idea ka eh. Yung scouting really plays a major role for us," he added. National teams play each other more now, especially since FIBA established the home-and-away format a couple of years back. Still, games come few and far in between. National programs also shuffle players on a regular basis, making scouting all the more crucial. Playing internationally is just a whole new game that requires a different approach compared to what's usual. "International tournament is really different eh," Coach Franz said. "Ako even though I played a couple of years in the national team, iba yung atmosphere, iba yung tawagan, iba yung rules," he added. — Follow this writer on Twitter, @paullintag8.....»»
