TODA workers in Pampanga receive support from Bong Go

The Office of Senator Bong Go, in coordination with the Office of Representative Anna York Bondoc and the Department of Social Welfare and Development, extended assistance to Tricycle Operators and Drivers' Association drivers in San Luis, Pampanga on Thursday, 25 May. Held at Dr. Emigdio Bondoc Convention Center, Go’s team gave away masks, snacks, and vitamins to 1,200 tricycle drivers. They also gave away shirts, a bicycle, a mobile phone, shoes, and balls for basketball to select beneficiaries. In his video message, Go, as Chair of the Senate Committee on Health and Demography, encouraged Kapampangans who are in need of medical assistance to reach out to the Malasakit Centers located at Jose B. Lingad Memorial Regional Hospital and Overseas Filipino Workers Hospital and Diagnostic Center, both in San Fernando City; and at Rafael Lazatin Memorial Medical Center in Angeles City. The Malasakit Center is a one-stop shop that streamlines the provision of medical assistance by bringing the relevant government agencies under one roof, namely, the DSWD, the Department of Health, the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation, and the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office. “Hindi niyo na kailangan pumila o umikot pa sa iba’t ibang opisina para humingi ng tulong pampagamot dahil nasa loob na sila ng iisang kwarto. Lapitan niyo lang ang Malasakit Center at wala itong pinipili. Karapatan niyo bilang mga Pilipino ang maka-avail ng serbisyo nito,” said Go, who primarily authored and sponsored the Malasakit Centers Act of 2019. “Isa yan sa ipinaglaban ko nung umupo ako sa Senado. Bakit ba natin pinapahirapan ang mga Pilipino kung pera naman nila yan? Kaya itinulak ko talaga ang Malasakit Centers Act… para po ‘yan sa minamahal kong Pilipino lalo na ang mga mahihirap at walang ibang matakbuhan kundi ang gobyerno,” he underscored. As Vice Chair of the Senate Committee on Finance, Go also supported the funding for new equipment for hospitals in San Fernando City and the towns of Arayat, Bacolor, Floridablanca, Guagua, Lubao, Mabalacat, Porac, and San Luis; and the construction of multipurpose buildings in Arayat, Floridablanca, Santa Monica, Magalang and Masantol, among others. He was also instrumental in the construction of slope protection along Sapangbato River in Barangay Margot in Angeles City. “Nakikiusap po ako sa inyo na suportahan niyo lang po ang gobyerno at ako naman po ay patuloy na tutulong sa inyo sa abot ng aking makakaya. Lagi po tayong magtulungan at magmalasakit para sabay sabay po tayong makaahon mula sa krisis na ito,” Go ended. Last 26 January, Go was honored by the provincial government of Pampanga for advancing the province's well-being and interests through its Resolution No. 7643-A. On that same day, former president Rodrigo Duterte was declared the province's "adopted son" by virtue of Resolution No. 7643, in recognition of his significant contributions to Pampanga's growth and prosperity during his presidency from 2016 to 2022. The senator’s team likewise assisted disadvantaged residents in Angeles City last 19 May.   The post TODA workers in Pampanga receive support from Bong Go appeared first on Daily Tribune......»»

Bong Go urges DOH to improve access to health services and personnel in GIDAs

To ensure equitable healthcare access for underserved communities, Senator Bong Go has called on the Department of Health to address the need to improve access to health services and personnel in Geographically Isolated and Disadvantaged Areas. Go, who chairs the Senate Committee on Health and Demography, emphasized that GIDAs, such as Pag-asa Island in the West Philippine Sea, should not be overlooked or neglected when it comes to the deployment of healthcare personnel. He likewise added that such areas require additional attention and support to ensure that the health needs of their communities are properly addressed. In an ambush interview after his visit to Sta. Cruz, Manila on Wednesday, 24 May, Go urged DOH to prioritize GIDAs, emphasizing that every Filipino deserves equal access to quality healthcare, regardless of their location. “Ako po ay nakikiusap, mayroon namang kaukulang budget ang Department of Health under its Human Resources for Health Development. Nabalitaan ko nga ang kakulangan po doon ng mga health workers, dapat kasama ‘yan sa kanilang prayoridad, ang Pag-asa Island. Dahil mayroon din pong mga kababayan nating nakatira doon at hindi na nila kailangan pang magbiyahe ng napakalayo. It will take them about a day to travel para lang po makapagpagamot,” Go cited. "Nakausap ko naman ang DOH at nilinaw nila na kanilang agarang pag-aaralan ang profile ng Pag-asa Island at sisiguruhing lahat ng eligible municipalities will be prioritized in the deployment of the next batch of health care workers," he added. Acknowledging that GIDAs, which include remote rural areas and islands with limited infrastructure and resources, often struggle to attract and retain skilled healthcare professionals, Go expressed his worry that the lack of medical personnel in these areas significantly hampers the delivery of quality healthcare services, leaving many residents without access to essential medical care. It is for this reason that the senator highlighted Republic Act No. 11223 or the "Universal Health Care Act”, which aims to provide all Filipinos with equitable access to quality and affordable healthcare services, irrespective of their socio-economic status. “Dapat gawan po ng paraan ng DOH na makapagdeploy po ng necessary health personnel sa Pag-asa Island. I also urged the Department of Health to send essential medicines doon po sa Pag-asa Island para po ready po ang gamot,” Go asserted. “Nasa ilalim naman po ng Universal Health Care Act, may mandato po ang gobyerno to guarantee that the distribution of health services and benefits shall be equitable. Ibig sabihin, pantay-pantay by prioritizing geographically isolated and disadvantaged areas in the provision of assistance and support,” he cited. The law also mandates the efficient delivery of coordinated and continuous health care from primary to tertiary level with linkages to an apex or end-referral hospital and other facilities providing specialized services needed by its catchment population. Consistent with the provisions of the Universal Health Care Act in relation to increases in premium rates and benefits, Go has successfully pushed for a special provision under the PhilHealth 2023 budget indicating the use of the P21-billion budget pertaining to benefit package improvement under the Act. He proposed that this budget should be used for the expansion of free dialysis coverage, mental health outpatient coverage, the implementation of the comprehensive outpatient benefit package, including free medical check-ups, and other increases in benefit packages. “Isinusulong ko rin po ang free medical check-up para sa ating mga kababayan. Parte ito ng Universal Health Care. Mahalaga ang early detection para hindi na lumala ang sakit. Ang problema, marami sa ating mga kababayan ang takot o walang budget para sa check-up. Sa Konsulta program, sagot ng PhilHealth ang pagpapa-check-up o lab test sa ating mga Philhealth-accredited health facility, dapat na itong ma-implementa ng buo at maayos,” he previously cited. ‘Prepare, coordinate, cooperate, save lives’ — Go tells frontline agencies

Senator Christopher ”Bong” Go, on Friday, 26 May, emphasized the importance of government preparedness and citizen awareness as Super Typhoon Betty entered the Philippine Area of Responsibility. With the potential for heavy rainfall and flooding, Go, during an ambush interview after attending the groundbreaking for the Super Health Center in Libertad, Misamis Oriental, called on the national government to coordinate with local government units to ensure the safety and well-being of affected communities.. “Nakikiusap po ako sa national government, sa DSWD (Department of Social Welfare and Development), preposition of goods kaagad at coordination with LGUs,” he added. Go stressed the significance of effective coordination with LGUs, saying, “Napakaimportante po ng coordination with LGUs dahil sila po ang nakakaalam kung saan dapat ilikas, saan 'yung safe na lugar, saan dapat 'yung evacuation center.” He also emphasized the need for the national government to be on top of the situation to guide citizens needing assistance. The senator also urged citizens not to be complacent and to adhere to government advisories. “Sa ngayon pa lang, huwag tayong magpakakumpiyansa. Habang papasok pa lang, may panahon po tayo na mag-prepare,” said Go. “Sumunod tayo sa paalala ng gobyerno. Sundin natin kung kailangan na lumikas. Umalis na sa mababang lugar, 'yung mga prone sa flooding dahil delikado 'yan,” he urged. The senator urged citizens to stay informed through reliable information sources and to heed the guidance of local officials and authorities.  Go also stressed the necessity of LGUs having ready relief supplies, search and rescue teams, and appropriate equipment, including personnel trained in emergency response. The typhoon’s passing may result in significant rainfall, potentially causing flash floods and landslides, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration. The projected path of the storm indicates that it will be approximately 250 kilometers away from Batanes and the Babuyan Islands within the weekend. During the interview, Go also took the opportunity to push for his advocacy for the establishment of a Department of Disaster Resilience.  “Yun po ang aking pinapangarap at hindi po ako titigil na isulong po ito. Sana po ay maging batas ito someday, itong Department of Disaster Resilience,” he said. Go emphasized the necessity of more proactive measures when dealing with natural calamities, reiterating his long-standing appeal for the establishment of the DDR through his proposed Senate Bill No. 188, a cabinet-level department dedicated to disaster response and mitigation efforts. “Hindi 'yung panay task force, task force ng pangalan ng typhoon. Eh ang problema n'yan kapag bagong administrasyon, mawawala na naman po ang task force. Kaya dapat Cabinet level para tuluy-tuloy po ang rehabilitasyon at makabalik sa normal ang apektadong mga komunidad,” concluded Go.
