NLEX comes "home" to ambush KaTropa

The answer to NLEX's struggles, at least to the team's horrible five-game losing skid, was found at 'home.' Travelling to the home province of head coach Yeng Guiao, the Road Warriors rode a solid second half to pummel sister team TNT, 110-98, Saturday in the 2017 PBA Philippine Cup at the Angeles University Gym in Angeles, Pampanga. In trouble after the KaTropa erased a 12-point deficit to take a 94-93 lead with 6:13 to go, NLEX went on a 17-4 tear the rest of the way to win only its second game of the new season. The Road Warriors lost their previous five games by double digits before taking care of TNT, improving to 2-5 and leaving idle Mahindra at the bottom of the team standings. After fighting to a stalemate in the first half, NLEX came out firing in the third quarter, leading by as much as 12, 74-62, after an Eric Camson basket. However, in typical TNT fashion, the KaTropa would respond and even take the lead back before the period ended courtesy of a Larry Fonacier trey, 80-78. Carlo Lastimosa showed his scoring prowess by dropping a game-high 22 points for the Road Warriors on 72 percent shooting. Sean Anthony added a double-double and ended up with 13 points and 13 rebounds. TNT lost a golden opportunity to move into solo second with the loss and is now tied with idle Phoenix and Globalport for third place with identical 4-3 cards. Jayson Castro, who is also from Pampanga, once again came off the bench to lead the KaTropa with 17 points. TNT actually got 72 points from its reserves with Mo Tautuaa and Kris Rosales adding 15 points apiece. No TNT starter scored in double figures.   br /> The scores:  NLEX 110 - Lastimosa 22, Anthony 13, Alas 12, Camson 12, Guinto 11, J. Villanueva 7, E. ‘Ulysses’ delays departure of three PBA teams

SMART CLARK GIGA CITY–Typhoon “Ulysses” has stalled the scheduled departure of three eliminated teams from the PBA Philippine Cup bubble.  The league postponed the trips of NLEX, Blackwater and Terrafirma back to Manila as the typhoon continued to bring heavy rainfall and strong winds to Central Luzon and nearby regions.  Some parts of NLEX are impassable due to floods while several roads in Metro Manila are also flooded.  The three teams were scheduled to exit the bubble after playing their final games on Wednesday.  NLEX closed its campaign on a high, posting a 127-101 beatdown of Terrafirma, while Blackwater bowed down to Magnolia, 95-80.  NorthPort, the other eliminated squad, already departed right after its 80-73 loss to Meralco.  Meanwhile, practices at the Angeles University Foundation Arena continue as the eight remaining teams brace for the quarterfinals.  However, activities outside the Quest Hotel building such as walking and running are put on hold as the Acacia Park and Mimosa Drive are still in unsafe condition. .....»»

NLEX vows to continue dialogues with Pampanga quarry truckers

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO, Pampanga (PNA) – The North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) Corporation is assuring the motoring public that concerns about legal load limits being raised by motorists and truckers are taken seriously by the management. The statement came after Pampanga quarry-based haulers barricaded several NLEX interchanges on Saturday morning in protest of the temporary rerouting of 12-wheeler dump trucks. The NLEX, in its statement, said it was compelled to temporarily regulate the entry of perennially overloaded 12-wheeler dump trucks for safety reasons while major rehabilitation of the five-kilometer Candaba Viaduct was ongoing. The reconstruction and rehabilitation of the 35-year-old Manila-bound carriageway of the Candaba Viaduct started last August. Before the project’s implementation, the tollway company said it reached out to the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), Department of Transportation (DOTr), Toll Regulatory Board (TRB), Pampanga Governor Dennis Pineda’s office, and the mayors of San Fernando, San Simon, Apalit in Pampanga, Calumpit, Pulilan, Malolos, and Guiguinto in Bulacan, the affected trucking groups, and the Pampanga Chamber of Commerce to highlight the urgency of repairing the Candaba Viaduct to assure its long-term viability as a vital road link between North and Central Luzon and Metro Manila. The NLEX also said that it issued public advisories that the reconstruction will require the closure of certain lanes and the implementation of temporary counter-flow traffic measures. To assuage the concerns of the affected quarry-based truckers and haulers, the NLEX said dialogues are ongoing to demonstrate proper and compliant procedures for loading their trucks. The NLEX currently implements the load limits provisions of R.A. 8794 and the Joint DOTr-DPWH Implementing Rules and Regulations revised in 2012 which sets the maximum load limits for trucks nationwide. .....»»
