Bong Go reminds public to observe proper hygiene amid typhoid surge
Senator Christopher “Bong” Go has urged Filipinos to be more vigilant and prioritize their health by observing proper hygiene in the wake of an alarming increase in typhoid cases across the country. According to the Department of Health (DOH), at least 17,531 cases of typhoid have been recorded this year. Go, chairperson of the Senate Committee on Health and Demography, expressed his concern for the growing number of typhoid cases and called upon the Filipino people to take immediate action to protect their health and that of their loved ones. Typhoid fever is a highly contagious bacterial infection that primarily spreads through contaminated food and water. Its symptoms, which include high fever, abdominal pain, and severe weakness, can be severe and even life-threatening if left untreated. Therefore, the recent increase in cases is a cause for significant concern, stressed Go. According to the most recent disease surveillance report from DOH, there has been a 38 percent increase in reported cases of the disease from 1 January to 30 September compared to the same period last year, with 12,693 cases. The Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) reported the highest number of cases at 2,861 followed by Northern Mindanao with 1,932 cases, and Mimaropa Region (Mindoro Occidental, Mindoro Oriental, Marinduque, Romblon, and Palawan) with 1,413 cases. Cases in SOCCSKSARGEN (South Cotabato, Cotabato City, North Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat, Sarangani, and General Santos City) increased by 119 percent from 512 cases to 1,123. Central Luzon saw the most significant increase in cases, with a 192 percent increase from 334 cases last year to 975 cases this year. "Typhoid fever is a preventable disease, and it is disheartening to see the numbers continue to rise," Go said, adding "We cannot afford to be complacent when it comes to our health. It is our responsibility to stay informed and practice proper hygiene to prevent the spread of this disease." Go also urged the government and health agencies to intensify their efforts in raising awareness about typhoid prevention, enhancing healthcare services, and implementing strict measures to ensure food and water safety. Go then highlighted the importance of Malasakit Centers and Super Health Centers as crucial components of the country's healthcare system, saying, “As the nation battles the increasing number of typhoid cases, it is essential for Filipinos to be aware of the facilities designed to provide quick and efficient medical services and assistance.” The Malasakit Centers program, a brainchild of Go, serves as a one-stop shop for medical assistance programs. These centers bring together key government agencies to streamline the process of availing medical aid. Tutulungan po kayo sa inyong billing,” said Go. The program was institutionalized through Republic Act No. 11463, which was principally sponsored and authored by Go. To date, there are 159 operational centers that have successfully helped more than seven million Filipinos nationwide. Moreover, the Super Health Centers offer a wide array of medical services, including consultations, and diagnostic tests, among others, ensuring that more Filipinos receive proper medical care close to their homes. Super Health Centers offer database management, out-patient, birthing, isolation, diagnostic (laboratory: x-ray, ultrasound), pharmacy, and ambulatory surgical unit. Other available services are eye, ear, nose, and throat (EENT) service; oncology centers; physical therapy and rehabilitation centers; and telemedicine. Through the collective efforts of fellow lawmakers and local government units, sufficient funds have been allocated under the DOH for 307 Super Health Centers in 2022 and 322 in 2023. "In times like these, we must come together as a nation. Let us be vigilant, look out for one another, and ensure that proper hygiene practices are consistently followed. By working together, we can combat this outbreak and protect the health and well-being of our fellow Filipinos,“ stressed Go. Bong Go extends aid to Kalinga typhoon victims, calls for greater disaster vigilance
Senator Christopher “Bong” Go had his team provide grocery packs to 500 Typhoon Egay victims in Kalinga on Thursday, 10 August, in coordination with Governor James Edduba. In Tabuk City, Kalinga, the relief operations were held at Purok Isla and Purok 2 in Barangay San Juan, and Purok Vicente in Barangay Magsaysay. Recognizing the heightened vulnerability that comes with the onset of the typhoon season, Go emphasized the importance of preparedness and cooperation within communities. He urged citizens to stay informed about weather updates and heed the advice of local authorities to ensure their safety and that of their families. As part of his commitment to ensure the welfare of Filipinos, Go also reminded the beneficiaries that there are six Malasakit Centers in the Cordillera Administrative Region if they require assistance to cover their medical expenses. These Malasakit Centers are located at the Baguio General Hospital and Medical Center, Benguet General Hospital in La Trinidad, Far North Luzon General Hospital & Training Center and Conner District Hospital in Apayao, and Luis Hora Memorial Regional Hospital and Bontoc General Hospital in Mountain Province. With a total of 158 centers established nationwide, the Malasakit Centers program has already provided assistance to more than seven million indigent patients. This initiative was spearheaded by Go and later formalized under Republic Act No. 11463, a legislative measure he principally authored and sponsored. Target po nito na pababain nito ang inyong hospital bill to the lowest amount possible,” Go explained. Go, chairperson of the Senate Committee on Health and Demography, also supported the construction of a Super Health Center (SHC) in Lagawe, which will offer basic health services, such as database management, out-patient, birthing, isolation, diagnostic (laboratory: x-ray and ultrasound), pharmacy and ambulatory surgical unit. Other available services are eye, ear, nose, and throat service, oncology centers, physical therapy and rehabilitation center and telemedicine, which makes remote diagnosis and treatment of patients possible. Bong Go helps indigents in his visit to Cagayan De Oro
On Friday, 26 May, Senator Bong Go, together with the local government and concerned agencies, personally spearheaded relief efforts to aid struggling residents in Cagayan de Oro City. Held at the Cagayan de Oro City Hall Quadrangle, the senator and his team distributed food packs, vitamins, masks, snacks, and shirts to 2,000 residents. They also gave away a bicycle, cellular phone, pairs of shoes, caps, and balls for basketball and volleyball to select individuals. In his message, Go, who is an adopted son of the city, took the opportunity to express his gratitude to local government officials. Go likewise acknowledged the barangay officials and their commitment to serving their communities. He assured them of his full support and mentioned his filing of the Magna Carta for Barangays bill in recognition of their hard work and to address the challenges they face. The lawmaker continues to push his proposed measure, Senate Bill No. 197 which, if enacted, would provide a Magna Carta for Barangays. Furthermore, Go expressed his appreciation for the efforts of front liners and uniformed personnel such as the police, military, and firefighters, highlighting the crucial role they play in maintaining peace and order and combating criminal activities. As Chair of the Senate Committee on Health and Demography, Go then offered additional aid to those with health concerns as he advised them to visit the nearby Malasakit Centers at Northern Mindanao Medical Center and J.R. Borja General Hospital in the city. Signed into law in 2019, the Malasakit Centers Act, which was principally authored and sponsored by Go, institutionalized the Malasakit Centers program to ensure that particularly poor and indigent patients have convenient access to medical assistance programs offered by the DSWD, DOH, Philippine Health Insurance Corporation, and Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office. Go reiterated his commitment to support the establishment of more Super Health Centers across the country, considering how they can significantly help reduce hospital occupancy rates while bringing basic medical services closer to the grassroots. Through the collective efforts of fellow lawmakers, sufficient funds had been allocated for 307 Super Health Centers in 2022 and 322 in 2023. DOH, the lead implementing agency, identifies the strategic areas where they will be constructed. In Misamis Oriental, necessary funds were allocated to construct Super Health Centers in Libertad town and Barangay Balubal in Cagayan de Oro City. Go attended the groundbreaking ceremonies for these centers on the same day. Furthermore, additional Super Health Centers are slated to be built in Gingoog City, Binuangan, Balingasag, Claveria, Initao, and Tagoloan. Cagayan de Oro City will have a total of six Super Health Centers in different barangays. On the same day, Go distributed assistance to the poor residents in Libertad town, and another group of 300 individuals in Cagayan de Oro City, which came shortly after his attendance at the groundbreaking ceremony for the Super Health Center in Brgy. Balubal. Last 23 March, Senator Go was hailed by the local government of Cagayan de Oro City as an adopted son, acknowledging his notable contributions, not only to the city but to the nation as a whole. By virtue of Sangguniang Panglungsod Resolution No. 14480 presented by City Mayor Rolando “Klarex” Uy, the adoption of Go as the son of the city was in recognition of his unwavering efforts in serving the city and its constituents. To help further improve the city’s public service delivery, Go, as Vice Chair of the Senate Committee on Finance, supported several infrastructure projects, including the construction of a drainage system and flood control structures along the Iponan River, acquisition of several ambulance units and fire and dump trucks, and the construction of a three-story multipurpose building in Barangay 33. He was also instrumental in the funding for flood control projects in Magsaysay, Medina, and Gingoog City; the construction of multipurpose buildings in Initao, Magsaysay, and Gingoog City; rehabilitation of local roads in Baliangao, Balingasag, Balingoan, Initao, Lagonglong, Laguindingan, Libertad, Lugait, Magsaysay, Manticao and El Salvador City; and construction of water systems in Balingasag and Jasaan.
“Parehong bansa ang pupuntahan which is Cambodia.
