Abiad shooter nabbed at cockpit
The Quezon City Police District disclosed that its operatives have arrested an individual believed to be one of the suspects behind the shooting incident that wounded photojournalist Joshua Abiad, six of his relatives, and a bystander in Quezon City last 29 June. QCPD director Brig. Gen. Nicolas Torre III identified the suspect as Eduardo Almario Legazpi, believed to be a member of a gun-for-hire group. He was arrested at a cockpit in Muntinlupa City last Friday. “He was nabbed after emerging from a cockpit in Muntinlupa,” Torre told Daily Tribune. Torre said Legazpi is allegedly one of the five suspects being hunted by the QCPD. He, however, did not divulge the identities of the other suspects while follow-up operations are ongoing. He added that a certain Nanad, a former barangay chairperson, is the mastermind behind the ambush. Torre said the village chairperson blamed Abiad as the source of negative information against him. To recall, Abiad suffered two bullet wounds during the gun attack while two other occupants of the vehicles, both minors, were also wounded with one of them later died in a hospital. Police investigators already released images of three gunmen based on the CCTV they earlier obtained from nearby establishments. He added that suspect was the gunman who shot several times at the passenger side of the vehicle, where Abiad Online was also seated. Torre said the team diligently reviewed CCTV footage obtained from the hotel where the Abiad family initially came from until they reached the crime scene. Taken also from the same CCTV footage was a clear copy of the image of Legazpi as one of the gunmen. With the information, his men coordinated with the Southern Police District and Police Regional Office and proceeded to Muntinlupa City. The picture of Legazpi was shown to a confidential informant, who led the group to the suspect’s residence and his cohorts at Barangay Ilaya, Alabang, Muntinlupa City. The arrest was made after a tip-off that Legazpi went to a cockpit. Recovered from him was caliber .45 pistol loaded with seven live bullets. His belt bag also contained a fragmentation grenade M26A1. Violations of R.A. 10591 or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act and R.A. 9516 or the Unlawful Possession of Firearms, Ammunition and Explosives have been filed against him before the Muntinlupa City Prosecutor’s Office while cases of Murder and three counts of Frustrated Murder will be filed before the Quezon City Prosecutor’s Office. One suspect nabbed in QC ambush vs. photojournalist, family
Quezon City Police District (QCPD) Brig. Gen. Nicolas Torre III on Tuesday announced the arrest of one of the suspects behind the shooting incident that wounded a photojournalist, six of his relatives, and a bystander in Quezon City last June 29. In a press conference held at QCPD headquarters in Camp Karingal, Torre identified the suspect as Eduardo Almario Legazpi, a member of a gun-for-hire group, as behind the shooting of Joshua Abiad, a photojournalist of tabloid Remate. He was arrested last Friday in Muntinlupa City. Torre said the suspect is one of the five he previously showed in the diagram, including the mastermind, but he did not reveal the real identity of the suspects as authorities' still had ongoing follow-up operations. He added that certain Barangay Chairman Nanad is the mastermind behind the assassination. Torre said the motive behind the attack is because Nanad suspected Abiad to be the source of negative information against him. Abiad suffered two bullet wounds during the gun attack on 29 June 2023. Two other occupants of the vehicles, both minors, were also wounded, one of them later died in a hospital. Police investigators already released images of three gunmen based on the CCTV footage they obtained. Torre III said aside from the photojournalist, also wounded in the attack were members of Abiad's family: Renato Jr., Cheryl and Elizabeth, three minors aged 6 and 8; and Jeffrey Ngo Cao, a bystander and resident of Barangay Apolonio Samson, Quezon City. Initial reports showed the Abiad family was heading home onboard their vehicle, driven by Renato, when they were ambushed by four unidentified assailants at the corner of Corumi and Gazan streets in Barangay Masambong, Quezon City on 29 June. Torre said the suspects then immediately fled towards Del Monte Avenue, also in Quezon City, using their getaway vehicle. 2 angles on fotog’s ambush probed
The ambush attempt on a photojournalist last Thursday is being investigated from at least two sides by detectives from the Quezon City Police District. Joshua Abiad’s ambush may have been a mistaken identity, in addition to the likelihood that it was related to his job, according to QCPD investigators. QCPD Director P/Brig. Gen. Nicolas Torre III, said investigators are focusing on Abiad’s brother-in-law, a contractor who is also at odds with his business partners. “His brother-in-law is a significant contractor at the moment and is involved in a dispute with some of his business associates. They weren’t even driving their car,” according to Torre. In the ambush that took place Thursday afternoon in Barangay Masambong, where the Abiad family also resides, Joshua and three of his family members were wounded. They were ambushed while traveling in a Ford Everest sports utility vehicle, along Corumi Street at around 3:50 p.m. Two suspects were driving a gray Toyota Vios, and the other was on a motorcycle, and followed the victim’s car. The SUV’s driver, Abiad’s brother, and his four-year-old niece, who was struck in the head and was in critical condition, were among the victims. A stray gunshot also struck a bystander. CCTV cameras in the area of the crime scene recorded the attack, and authorities were able to identify the suspects by their use of false license plates. The Philippine National Police and the Presidential Task Force on Media Security said it is currently keeping a careful eye on the progress of the case’s investigation. Nakakahiya
The post Nakakahiya appeared first on Daily Tribune......»»
