PBA targets September to start scrimmages

PBA teams are all set to finally begin training following their COVID-19 swab tests last week. Up first will be teams doing workouts by batches under the prescribed health protocols. If things go well, the PBA should be able to conduct scrimmages by September, a huge step on their way to a true restart. "Sana payagan din tayo, pero lahat na yan siguro depende kung nasaan na tayo dito sa virus," Commissioner Willie Marcial said. "Kung tumataas pa rin ang mga kaso nandyan pa rin posibilidad na tumaas ulit ang quarantine level. Pero kung steady lang ang number o mas maganda bumaba, malamang payagan tayo. Sana," he added. After Metro Manila returned to a more relaxed community quarantine level last week, the PBA wasted little time in having its teams undergo swab tests. The league has implemented a "no test, no practice" policy and with favorable results, players can finally hit the court in this upcoming week. It will be a welcome development after the PBA encountered delays brought about by upgraded quarantine protocols back in early August. "Okay na rin, kasi na-refine natin, nagdagdag ng ibang protocols," Marcial said. "Nag-wo-workout naman ang mga yan [players] sa bahay pero hinabaan natin ang workouts para kapag nagkaroon na ng scrimmages mababa posibilidad ng injuries," he added as the PBA gears up for team practices.   — Follow this writer on Twitter, @paullintag8.....»»

Pangasinan gov’t, PNP implement stricter border protocols

LINGAYEN – The provincial government of Pangasinan, together with the Pangasinan Provincial Police Office (PPPO), has started to implement stricter border control point protocols at the Tarlac-Pangasinan boundary due to the rising number of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in the province. The provincial government of Pangasinan, together with the Pangasinan Provincial Police Office (PPPO), has started to implement stricter border control point protocols at the Tarlac-Pangasinan boundary due to the rising number of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in the province. (Pangasinan PIO / MANILA BULLETIN) Police stressed that persons, who plan to enter the province, should secure and present the necessary documents when they cross the border into Pangasinan. A medical certificate would be a pre-requisite to acquire travel authority from the Philippine National Police (PNP) at their point of origin. On July 30, a total of 15 locally stranded individuals (LSIs) at the Pangasinan-Tarlac Border were assisted by the provincial government through the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) to enter the province. All 15 stranded individuals underwent reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) tests conducted by the Provincial Health Office before they were fetched by their respective local health offices. The LSIs will be brought to their local quarantine facilities, and will stay there until the release of their swab results. The stranded individuals were composed of Pangasinenses from: Binalonan (1), Umingan (1), Lingayen (1), Mangaldan (2), Balungao (1), Pozorrubio (1), Dagupan City (1), San Manuel (1), Rosales (2), Asingan (1), Tayug (3). Meanwhile, Pangasinan has, so far, recorded 220 cases coronavirus disease COVID-19, including 35 in Dagupan City. Of this number, 133 have already recovered, 77 are still active, while 10 have already died. Only one COVID-19 case was recorded as of July 31......»»

Recto appeals for free rapid testing for LSIs

Senate President Pro Tempore Ralph Recto on Wednesday appealed for free RT-PCR (polymerase chain reaction) tests for locally-stranded individuals before they are sent home. (JANSEN ROMERO / MANILA BULLETIN) The LSIs, he said, should also be treated as VIPs, or “very important passengers” and have them avail of the COVID-19 swab tests before they are transported back to their home provinces. “These ‘VIPs’ are entitled to the same gold standard of testing, more so that they’ve been lodged in a place that will check all the boxes in the list of a possible outbreak spot,” said Recto. Recto was commenting on the thousands of LSIs crammed at the Rizal Memorial Stadium in Manila, brushing aside physical distancing protocols while they wait for their turn to be brought home under the government’s “Hatid Tulong” program. “If we have tested for free those who’ve been on strict quarantine because they’re going to listen to a speech, then all the more we should test exposed individuals who are going home to their loved ones,” he said, referring to the RT-PCR tests conducted for lawmakers and attendees of President Duterte’s recent State of the Nation Address (SONA). “May karapatan din sa peace of mind ang mga komunidad na naghihintay sa kanilang pagdating (Those who have been waiting for them in their communities also have the right to peace of mind),” he pointed out. Recto said the PCR tests will also help prevent the entry and spread of the novel coronavirus in local government units. “A swab test will ensure that the coronavirus will not be hitchhiking to family reunions. Those positive will be flagged from boarding. And spare understaffed and underfunded LGUs and local hospitals from handling a ‘pasa load’ from the national government,” he said. “Kung ngayon, bawal magtransport ng baboy dahil sa ASF at kailangan may certificate na ligtas ang mga ito, tao pa kaya?” he also noted. While saying that he was also “painfully aware” of the shortage on test kits, he lamented the plight of LSIs who have been stranded for months or have resorted to sleeping on streets. Recto said he will defer to the Interagency Task Force of Emerging Infectious Diseases to study and consider the call. Under the Hatid Tulong program, the LSIs must undergo rapid test for COVID-19  and secure medical clearance and travel authority before being allowed to depart going to their provinces. Reports said at least 20 LSIs in the Rizal Stadium have tested positive for antibodies in the rapid tests......»»

PSC personnel, national athletes test negative for COVID-19

All 200 Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) personnel including some national athletes and coaches tested negative for coronavirus (COVID-19). The PSC announced the good news following the release of the swab-test results on Wednesday. “We are thankful to the Lord that the PSC community is free from COVID-19. We hope and pray it stays that way,” said PSC Overall-in-Charge Ramon Fernandez who also underwent Reverse Transcription Polymerase Chain Reaction (RT-PCR) test or swab testing. The PSC conducted RT-PCR tests for PSC staff, along with some members of the national team numbering 112 persons at the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex (RMSC) in Manila and 88 at the PhilSports Complex in Pasig City.  The test was conducted in three batches. “We are proud to say that both PSC complexes, which is under a high-risk area since we have venues housing COVID-19 patients, can be declared COVID-19 free. We conducted the test to give the confidence back to the regular workforce, occupants, athletes, and coaches who frequently go to PhilSports and RMSC.” said Dr. Randolph Molo, Head of PSC Medical Scientific Athletes Services (PSC-MSAS) Unit. “We opted for the RT-PCR/swab test over any form of rapid testing since this test is more reliable and reflective on one's COVID-19 status. As of Wednesday, July 8, we can declare that all of the 200 persons who underwent testing are all clear/negative from the Coronavirus. This should help restore the confidence and ease the fears of our staff as we continue to keep PSC COVID-19 free.” added Dr. Molo. After RT-PCR testing, the PSC has also put in place additional security measures by requiring all staff working on-site to submit a Health Declaration Form which was made accessible by QR code or the PSC website. This is screened by the MSAS unit which will grant them a gate pass via SMS once they get cleared. The sports agency hopes this practice will help them keep PSC premises COVID-19 free. The PSC is also strictly implementing health security protocols advised by the Department of Health and the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) in all of its facilities......»»

Younghusband married Margaret Hall back in July of 2019, and the two recently just moved in to a new house in Cardiff, Wales, United Kingdom.         View this post on Instagram                   Thank you to everyone that shared our special day with us. We are looking forward to our future together. With all our love, Mags and Phil. ??????20.07.19 #Marriage #Husband #Wife #Love #Happiness #Family #Friends #Magical #Fairytale #Dreamy #Enchanting #Wedding #HappilyEverAfter A post shared by Phil Younghusband (@philyounghusband10) on Jul 23, 2019 at 3:53am PDT “Married life is…I feel I have more confidence,” shared Younghusband. “I feel I’m never alone, I’ve always got someone there to support me and be there by my side. It’s been great so far, I love it, I’ve really enjoyed it.” After two years of dating, Younghusband proposed to Hall in December of 2017. “Married life has been amazing, I’m so proud to introduce Mags as Mrs. Younghusband, when I’m filling out forms, when she’s filling out forms, to see her write ‘Margaret Younghusband’, I feel really proud with every little thing we do. We just moved to England and we’ve got a place together for the first time here in England, as a married couple, so I think just everything we do, I feel just a little bit more proud, I have a little bit more confidence, it’s an amazing feeling,” Younghusband continued. While Younghusband ended the chapter of his life as a football player, the Azkals’ top goalscorer and record holder in matches played is now preparing for a brand new chapter of his life: fatherhood. Phil and Margaret are expecting their first child, a baby boy, later this year.         View this post on Instagram                   @magshall_ and I are excited to let everyone know that we are expecting a new addition to the Younghusband family in the Summer of 2020 ???????????? Mags has just entered her 2nd trimester and so far, she is doing really well ???? It has been our dream to be parents for a long time now and for our wishes to come true, we feel truly blessed by the Lord ???????? We hope to be half as good as parents as our Mother’s and Father’s have been to us and those parents we have surrounded ourselves with. Thank you to everyone for the support and we would like to wish you all a very Merry Christmas filled with love and happiness ?????? Thank you to @niceprintphoto for capturing our special moments and @lindsaycoalog for the makeup ???????? #Love #Happiness #Husband #Wife #Blessings #Pregnancy #BabyYounghusband #Joy #Family #Christmas #Thankful #TheYounghusbands #Philippines #Manila #England #Kent A post shared by Phil Younghusband (@philyounghusband10) on Dec 22, 2019 at 12:43am PST “When we found out Mags was pregnant - we took three tests - and when we found out, it was very emotional. We cried a little, and, it’s hard to put into words,” Younghusband shared. “For me, on a personal level, 2019 was an incredible year. Not so much, professional, but personally, it was a fantastic year. I can’t put into words when we found out that Mags was pregnant. I think it was the most amazing blessing, that you can create a life.” Younghusband talked about being able to finally become a role model for his son after he himself had looked up to a number of role models when he was younger. “For me, it’s a dream. I mentioned it on a post before, you surround yourself with role models and father figures all the time…and to know that you’re going to be in the same position, you look up to them and try to think about their strengths as fathers, to know that I’ll be in the same position and have to feel the same emotions that my father did about myself and James and Keri, it’s incredible, it’s very exciting, I can’t wait.” “It’s an incredible feeling to know that you created this life,” he added. With Younghusband being the undeniable face of Philippine football for more or less a decade, the immediate expectation for his son would be to follow in his footsteps. Younghusband says that he’ll support his son in whatever he wants to do, but given how popular football is in the UK, there’s no doubt that he gets exposed to “the beautiful game.” “You how it is when you grow up in England, we’ve got football everywhere, so I’m sure he’ll be exposed to it. I’ll support him in whatever,” Younghusband said. So does this mean that Filipino football fans can look forward to another generation of Younghusband excellence? “Obviously, we’ll expose him to all kinds of sports, our priority is to make sure that they’re active, but I think, with the amount of football you’re exposed to in this country, it’s inevitable,” Younghusband concluded. While Phil has said goodbye to his days as a football player, the Filipino-British striker believes that he still has a lot to do in Philippine football, and would even be open to joining the Azkals coaching staff if the opportunity presents itself. .....»»
