Dev’t, capacitybuilding for cities
An attractive proposition and a necessary goal to further improve the state of the Philippines is to accelerate and sustain inclusive growth in the country. But what exactly needs improvement? How can this be achieved? What does it entail? How will it benefit the Philippines? Metro Manila is already developed and, in my opinion, not the priority in making more improvements. The cities outside Metro Manila are, however, a different story altogether. The economic competitiveness and resilience of said cities require much improvement. The development of these cities as engines of growth that are inclusive, environmentally sustainable, and strong is the foundation with which to realize these improvements. Specific areas may need financial inputs, and technical support varies from city to city. Examples of sectors to focus on are energy, environment, governance, health, local economy, small to medium entrepreneurship, taxation, technology and education. The enumeration is not exclusive and may be expanded. Generally, the growth trajectories of nations are closely linked to their urban environment, where cities act as propulsions of growth and lay the groundwork for their foundation. At first glance, it may seem like a tall order, but with proper planning, preparation, and stakeholder cooperation, it becomes achievable. If urban growth is well planned, cities can accelerate regional economic growth, innovation, and the end goal of prosperity for all. Circling back to my initial point on why cities outside Metro Manila are important to focus on for development, these smaller cities have a relatively high urban population concentration and hold the most growth potential. Although varying in size and level of development, they are equally important in ensuring the country’s success. To achieve this would require the cooperation and participation of various sectors and stakeholders. Government agencies, various leagues of local government units, civil society groups, non-government organizations, and the private sector, which may include corporations, business chambers, and trade associations, must all be involved. Implementing this undertaking will be an opportunity to remind everyone of the importance of the “whole-of-nation” approach. Government agencies that top the list of entities expected to shore up this collective effort include the Department of the Interior and Local Government, National Economic and Development Authority, Anti-Red Tape Authority, Department of Finance, Department of Trade and Industry, Department of Health, and Department of Education. The participation of the Philippine National Police is also crucial, as business can thrive only in an atmosphere of peace and security. The benefits of capacity building for cities are many. Initially, the more apparent recipients are the affected cities themselves and their inhabitants. However, increased capability will lead to a more efficient and equitable distribution of resources and delivery of services to the specific sectors we have mentioned. This will support decentralization and public financial management by helping cities widen their own-source revenue bases. It also helps cities enhance tax collection efficiency, access debt capital markets, and strengthen their public financial systems to create a more equitable fiscal framework geared towards inclusive growth. Decentralization also improves governance, with cities becoming more accountable and transparent to their constituencies. With accountability and transparency, the city becomes an attractive destination for investments. Local entrepreneurs will be one of many who will seize upon these attractions, but foreign investors as well. The different benefits and positive impact foreign direct investments provide a country deserve another article in the future. For now, let us all call on our government and the private sector to join hands in developing and building capacity for all cities in the Philippines. Let us contribute to moving our country forward and taking it to new heights. The post Dev’t, capacitybuilding for cities appeared first on Daily Tribune......»»
Elevate sound game with Sony headphones
Elevate your sound game as Sony introduces the MDR-MV1 Reference Monitor Headphones, designed for professional sound engineers and music creators. The headphones, which combine sound quality with long-lasting wear and reliability, are best for mixing and mastering. Their open-back design enables accurate reproduction of a wide sound field, making them suitable for mixing and mastering immersive spatial sound, such as 360 Reality Audio and stereo sound with hi-resolution capability. To complement this, Sony also brings the C-80, a new microphone for home studios ideal for vocal/voice recording, instrumental recording, vlogging, webcasting, and podcasting. This latest addition inherits the technology of Sony’s revered C-800G and popular C-100 microphones, making the high-quality sound even more accessible. “With the rise in spatial sound and high-quality streaming music services, we are seeing a demand for headphones that can adaptably address and enrich all of these immersive needs,” said Andy Munitz, Senior Product Manager, Sony Electronics. “Sony’s deep heritage in audio is on display with the introduction of the MDR-MV1, a flexible and stylish new option for home or studio use. The headphones prioritize comfort, showcase Sony’s craftsmanship and provide long-term durability while allowing users to accurately reproduce sounds, as the artist intended them to be heard.” With the rise in spatial sound and high-quality streaming music services, we are seeing a demand for headphones that can adaptably address and enrich all of these immersive needs. “The C-80 takes advantage of Sony’s heritage in professional audio, providing users with an affordable introductory model that incorporates high-end professional features,” said John Studdert, head of Media Solutions, Sony Electronics. “With unrivaled sound quality and thoughtful construction, the C-80 is a great addition to any audio enthusiast’s microphone collection and a perfect complement to Sony’s full line of professional audio technologies.” Experience superior sound The MDR-MV1 offers extended spatial sound reproducibility, accurate sound object positioning within a 360-degree space, and clear, hi-resolution, nuanced sound with a super-wide frequency range and precise soundstage. The headphones’ uniquely developed driver units provide ultra-wideband playback (5Hz — 80 kHz) with natural high frequencies. This makes it easier for professionals to capture localization, spaciousness and detailed changes in sound processing. The open-back structure of the headphones reduces internally reflected sounds and eliminates acoustic resonances while accurately reproducing natural, rich spatial information and sounds. These robust features support their use in professional mixing and mastering environments while accommodating audio engineers’ highest standards. Comfort and design Engineered with comfort in mind, the MDR-MV1 features breathable earpads and is intentionally lightweight, soft, and fitted to provide a pleasant wearing experience, even after hours of use. The MDR-MV1 includes a high-quality replaceable, detachable cable with machined aluminum connectors and a stereo mini-jack adapter for easy use in a professional setting. Low noise, clear sound The C-80 inherits the essence of Sony’s revered C-800G and popular C-100 microphones, utilizing the microphone capsule derived from the C-100 and a two-part metallic anti-vibrational body structure used in the C-800G. Its “Noise Elimination Construction” also prevents microphone body acoustic vibration, resulting in low noise and clear sound. A dual diaphragm configuration is also present within the C-80, suppressing sonic changes with distance (proximity effect) and allowing more stability in the vocal recording process. Sonic characteristics Fast and rich mid-range capture in the C-80 provides a vocal sound with a transparent core and presence, allowing vocals to stand out even when mixed with other instrumental sounds. The C-80 also provides a realistic reproduction of the characteristics of an instrument, such as the sound of guitar strings and the body’s resonance. A natural and clear recording is achieved by suppressing boomy low frequencies and noise when close to the microphone.
