PPA records 23.18% net income increase in H1 2023, expenses down by -3.23%
The Philippine Ports Authority showed a net income of P6.19 billion during the first half of 2023, higher by 7.85 percent against target, and a 23.18 percent or P1.16 billion increase compared to its P5.02 billion net income for the same period in 2022. Comparative revenue figures show that all revenue groupings showed improvement, with Service and Business Income at 13.94 percent or P630.21 million increase and Regulatory Income at 8.04 percent or a P393.58 million increase. Overall, PPA's total revenue as of end of June 2023 grew by 10.83 percent or P1.02 billion increase amounting to P10.46 billion, compared to the P9.44 billion total revenue generated during the same period last year. The total expenses of PPA, meanwhile, recorded a 3.23 percent decrease or P142.52 million compared to the total expenditures incurred during the same period last year. Cash expenses also recorded a decrease of 24.63 percent or P657.26 million due to lower recorded expenditures of administration costs and financial expenses this year. PPA General Manager Jay Santiago disclosed that the exemplary performance of PPA in terms of higher income and lesser expenditure costs can be attributed to the sound fiscal management and the responsible use of its financial resources, among others. “Natutuwa po ako at nagpapasalamat sa lahat ng empleyado ng PPA para po sa magandang performance natin. Sa unang kalahating bahagi ng taon ay makikita niyo naman po ang pagtaas ng revenue at net income ng PPA at ang malaking bawas sa gastos ng ahensya. We can say that this is a great start for PPA this year especially because we implemented the reduction of representation expenses, as well as fuel costs due to the rationalization of the use of service vehicles, among others”, said Santiago. PPA budget utilization improved to 83 percent in 2022, a huge leap from its 71 percent budget utilization in 2021 and 62 percent in 2020, a more or less 12 percent increase in budget utilization every year since its utilization of 52 percent in 2015, showing marked improvements in project implementation over the past six years. “Makikita niyo naman po sa mga pasilidad natin, mga bago at modern na rin po ang mga pantalan natin at maayos po ang papatakbo ng PPA. Sa katunayan, sa unang taon po ng administrasyon ni Pangulong Bongbong Marcos, tayo po ay nakapagtapos na ng 30 seaport projects at balak pa po nating magtapos ng karagdagang 19 projects bago magtapos ang taon”, Santiago concluded. The PPA’s strong and steady financial performance is a clear manifestation that honest and transparent public service is a great factor in being a consistent top GOCC performer over the past six years. Bong Go advocates for advancement of nursing profession in proposed bill
Senator Christopher “Bong” Go assured that he remains at the forefront of advocating for the welfare of Filipino nurses. In a bid to enhance the nursing profession and address the growing healthcare needs of Filipinos, Go continues to push for the enactment of the Advanced Nursing Education bill. As Chair of the Senate Committee on Health and Demography, Go has consistently expressed his admiration for nurses and the indispensable role they play in delivering healthcare services, especially during these challenging times. It is for this reason that he stressed the importance of investing in the nursing profession in building a more robust and sustainable healthcare system. In an ambush interview after he personally graced the launch of the 158th Malasakit Center in Guagua, Pampanga on Friday, June 9, Go highlighted that his proposed Senate Bill No. 191 aims to bolster the educational opportunities available to nurses, ensuring they have the necessary skills and knowledge to meet the evolving demands of the healthcare sector. Go maintained the importance of equipping nurses with the necessary interventions to meet the evolving healthcare challenges. His proposed "Advanced Nursing Education Act of 2022" seeks to protect and improve the nursing profession by instituting measures that will result in relevant nursing education for better career prospects and dignified work conditions for nurses. On the other hand, Go also emphasized the importance of striking a balance between providing proper compensation for Filipino nurses and ensuring that hospitals have the necessary resources to maintain their operations effectively. “Napansin ko na napakababa talaga ng sweldo ng mga nurses sa private hospitals. Eh alam mo naman kapag sa private hospitals, hindi na usually nagrereklamo ang mga nagbabayad na mga pasyente kahit napakalaki po ng kanilang hospital billing dahil mayayaman o may kaya sila, halos hindi na po magrereklamo. Pero napakaliit pa rin po ng sweldo ng mga nurses doon. Nakakalungkot dahil nadi-discourage silang magtrabaho dito sa atin. Nangingibang bansa sila dahil maliit talaga ang sweldo,” Go cited. Go acknowledged that fair and competitive salaries are crucial to attracting and retaining talented nurses in the country. However, he also understands that hospitals, especially those in underserved areas, often face financial constraints that can hinder their ability to offer competitive compensation packages. “Gusto ko naman pong balansehin. Ayaw naman nating magsara ang mga private hospitals dahil kailangan din nila sa operation nila. Maaaring doon din nila kinukuha ang kanilang mga operational expenses. So balansehin natin,” Go urged. “Sana naman sa mga private hospitals, kung maaari bawas-bawasan n’yo ng kaunti ang kita ninyo. Ibigay n’yo naman sa mga nurses para makatulong naman sa kanila at ‘wag na silang mangibang bansa. Hindi ko masisisi ang mga nurses natin sa mga private hospitals, nangingibang bansa dahil sobrang laki ng sweldo sa ibang bansa,” he expressed. The lawmaker earlier authored and co-sponsored Republic Act No. 11466 in 2019, which gives nurses and other civilian government employees their fifth round of salary increases broken down in tranches. In the same year, Senator Go also made sure that sufficient funding was allocated for the implementation of the 2019 Supreme Court decision that upheld Section 32 of the Philippine Nursing Act of 2002, which establishes the minimum salary grade of the Nurse I position at SG-15. ### The post Bong Go advocates for advancement of nursing profession in proposed bill appeared first on Daily Tribune......»»

Paul Lee reminds fellow Tondo pride RK Ilagan to prioritize Baste
RK Ilagan is the deadliest gunner in all of college today. The pint-sized point guard is a threat from anywhere and everywhere and can put all of San Sebastian College-Recoletos on his shoulders. Now heading into his fifth and final year however, one dark cloud still hangs over his head. "One week before ng NCAA, naglaro ako ng ligang-labas, pero 'di ko po alam nun na kapag napasa na yung requirements, bawal na po pala yun," he said in The Prospects Pod last Friday. "Nakakaapanghinayang po talaga yung time na yun kasi magpapa-draft na dapat si Michael Calisaan nun tapos, kumbaga, nasama ko po siya sa ilalim." In NCAA 93, Ilagan was put under investigation by the league’s management committee for playing in a commercial league and was ultimately suspended for three games. As per league rules, a player is not allowed to see action in any other league during the season without the permission of his school. At the same time, the Golden Stags were forced to forfeit the two wins he had seen action in. When the elimination round ended, Baste found itself on the outside looking into the playoff picture - and that's how Calisaan's collegiate career came to a close. That cannot happen again - and it should not have even happened in the first place. "Bawas-bawasan mo muna yung pagliligang-labas mo," Paul Lee told Ilagan later in the episode. "I mean, hindi naman masama kasi nanggaling din ako dun, pero nung last year ko sa UAAP, I stopped playing sa ligang labas so mas na-priority ko yung UE." The two are both proud products of Tondo. As such, Lee knows Ilagan full well - just as much as he knows ligang-labas full well. And the former said that all that extra action makes it hard for a player to be at full strength. "Sobrang importante ng pahinga sa katawan. Kasi isipin mo, kunwari may laro ka ng umaga sa (PBA) D-League tapos may ligang-labas ka sa gabi," he shared. He then continued, "For sure, alam mo naman anong oras natatapos yun so wala kang pahinga para kinabukasan." As Ilagan enters his last year in college, though, the "Angas ng Tondo" reminded him to put his full focus on San Sebastian. As he put it, "Kung gusto mo talagang makamit yung dream mong maging player sa PBA, alamin mo yung priorities mo. Practice sa umaga, pahinga sa gabi, tapos marami pa rin namang pwedeng gawin like extra work." He then continued, "Priorities lang. Yung ligang-labas, hindi mawawala yan. Minsan nga, kapag dumating ka na sa posisyon ko, sa posisyon ni Kiefer [Ravena], mag-jumpball ka lang, babayaran ka na e." Sooner than later, Tondo may very send yet another great guard to the PBA - and Paul Lee is making sure that happens. --- Follow this writer on Twitter, @riegogogo......»»

PBA: New diet and extra shooting doing wonders for RR Pogoy
RR Pogoy was a top prospect when he entered the PBA, and his status was only proven when he won Rookie of the Year in 2017. Since then, Pogoy has made a steady climb as a true key piece for TNT, and his rise to become a PBA star was accelerated and became complete last season for the KaTropa. Pogoy, always a reliable defender and shooter, became a top-10 scorer in the PBA in 2019. His 16.6 points per game actually led the KaTropa, beating out teammates Troy Rosario and Jayson Castro. A key turning point for Pogoy's rise can be attributed to his health and nutrition, which was emphasized when active consultant Mark Dickel first joined the team late in the 2018 season. "Binago yung diet ko," Pogoy said during the PBA's Kamustahan session online. "Nagpa-gaan ako ng timbang, bawas-bawas ako sa rice, and more on healthy foods ang kinakain ko," he added. On top of his new diet, Pogoy also worked extra for his shooting. The results were seen immediately as Pogoy made 124 total three-point shots on 35 percent shooting last year. Pogoy peaked in the mid-season Commissioner's Cup, where he converted a career-high 10 triples in one game, making him the the fourth of five players to accomplish such feat. "Alas-9 yung ensayo pero 6:30 pa lang nandoo na kami ni Coach Mark, nage-extra na kami. Siguro doon ko nakuha yung ganda ng laro ko," Pogoy said. "Kumpiyansa ako kasi alam ko ini-ensayo ko araw-araw. Sa awa ng Diyos, gumanda ang laro ko. May bunga talaga pag magta-tanim ka," he added. — Follow this writer on Twitter, @paullintag8.....»»
