Phl, Aussie armies wrap up bilateral ‘Exercise Carabaroo’
The Philippines and Australia wrapped up this year's bilateral 'Exercise Carabaroo'. Some 138 troops from the Philippine Army’s 1st Brigade Combat Team, First Scout Ranger Regiment, and Special Forces Regiment (Airborne) have trained with their Australian counterparts and Timor-Leste Army for three weeks with an aim to enhance their interoperability involving “dismounted infantry operations” in urban terrain. Philippine Army spokesperson Col. Xerxes Trinidad said the series of army training was held in strategic areas at the Robertson Barracks, Gunn Point, and Channel Island in Darwin. The military drill aims to strengthen tactical coordination and increase survivability, lethality, command, and control within the urban environment while enhancing the interoperability of multinational combined arms teams, he added. The Exercise Carabaroo is part of the Australian Army's 1st Brigade's Exercise Predator's Run, a multinational training activity that simulates littoral combined arms maneuvers in a large-scale force-on-force environment. Army Commanding General Lt.Gen. Roy Galido made remarks during the culmination activity. "Becoming a world-class army is not about flashy uniforms and parades. It's about learning, mastering, and learning some more,” Galido said. The post Phl, Aussie armies wrap up bilateral ‘Exercise Carabaroo’ appeared first on Daily Tribune......»»

PBBM to discuss defense, maritime affairs with Aussie PM Albanese
President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese will discuss defense and maritime affairs during Albanese's visit to the Philippines next month, Presidential Communications Office (PCO) said on Friday. In a Facebook post, PCO said Marcos and Albanese are expected to discuss the potential improvement of their cooperation in defense and security, trade, economic development, and maritime affairs. "The Philippines and Australia share a rich history of friendship and collaboration, which has flourished through the decades," it said. "The President's meeting with Prime Minister Albanese on 8 September is anticipated to reinforce this partnership, ushering in a new era of closer cooperation across key sectors, such as defense and security, trade, economic development, and maritime affairs," the PCO added. As per PCO, Albanese's upcoming trip comes in the wake of a sequence of top-level interactions earlier this year between the Philippines and Australia. A report from Reuters dated 8 August showed that Albanese had expressed his intention to journey to the Philippines in September for talks on defense and security collaboration. Albanese's meeting with Marcos is slated on 7 and 8 September. In May, Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong expressed their country's willingness to offer drones, expertise training, and additional technological aid to enhance the Philippines' efforts in enhancing awareness of its maritime territories. In addition to providing technical support, Australia also indicated its interest in fostering potential trilateral collaborations involving the Philippines and other similarly aligned countries, with the aim of conducting joint patrols in response to the evolving security situation in the South China Sea. Aussie firm building $10-M battery plant
To help support the country’s renewable energy transition drive, an Australia-based investment firm is pouring in an initial $10 million to locally build a lithium-ion battery manufacturing plant that can generate as much as 1.2 gigawatt-hours, or GWh capacity by the end of the decade. St Baker Energy Innovation Fund or StBEIF announced on Monday that the project — dubbed StB Giga-Factory — will be located in a free-trade zone at the Filinvest Innovation Park, New Clark City. The company signed a five-year renewable lease with FCGC Corporation, a subsidiary of full-range property developer Filinvest Land Inc., for two ready-built factory units — each measuring 2,500 square meters in gross leasable area. In an interview on Monday, StBEIF founder and director Trevor St. Baker said the facility will produce lithium-ion phosphate battery packs, which can store energy backup for solar PV in millions of homes and larger premises. St. Baker also noted that the batteries can support the public electric vehicle fast charging stations as well as batteries for small vehicles. Lithium-ion plays pivotal role “StB Giga-Factory is positioned to capture the once-in-a-century transition towards a renewable energy electricity system, in which lithium-ion batteries are expected to play a pivotal role,” St. Baker said. St. Baker noted that the company targets to start commercial production by the last quarter of 2024 with an initial output of 150MWh per annum. By 2030, when it reaches its full first-stage production, the facility can boast a 1.2 GWh capacity, which will be marketed into a global battery energy storage system, or BESS. Based on the demand forecast by Bloomberg New Energy Finance, the international BESS market is expected to expand to 1,432 GWh by 2030, from the current 69GWh installed capacity. During the construction of the facility, approximately 150 Filipino engineering, technical, finance, and administrative job opportunities will open.
