What’s in style? Safe shopping.

And I am happy to say that it has met full acceptance with quite a number of Rustan’s customers.” Its ease of use is an advantage. “Just open the can, remove the plastic cover of the wick, set on a flat surface, light the wick, and leave for the next six to eight hours. The smoking process lasts for only one to two minutes, then disinfection takes place for the next six to eight hours,” Pinky says. “That’s good for 14 days.” And the cost? Surprisingly very minimal.  “One can of Sanivir of 25 grams is P1,750 and it’s good for 14 days for a room of 30 to 50 square meters,” Pinky says. “The cost per day is only a P125 investment. If you have five people in the room, the investment per person per day is only P25.”    But for those who are not in the mood to shop in-store, Rustan’s online service has amped up its service. Apart from its website, fortuitously launched a year ago, you can also tap the Personal Shoppers on Call Service, where sales associates respond to you on Viber, after which you can have your items delivered to you, or picked up by the curbside. MMA Hall of Famer Chuck Liddell plays peacekeeper in California protest

Legend has it that former UFC Light Heavyweight Champion and Hall of Famer Chuck Liddell got his “The Iceman” moniker from keeping cool and stress-free before the fight.  As it turns out, Liddell can keep himself pretty cool and collected in pretty much any high-stress situation.  As seen on a news report from ABC 7 in the United States, Liddell kept his chill as he helped diffuse a high-tension situation at a George Floyd protest in Huntington Beach, California.  In the video, Liddell can be seen breaking up altercations and getting in between protesters who appear to be losing their tempers.  Protests have been widespread all over the United States in the past few days as people have rallied against racism and police brutality following the death of George Floyd, an un-armed African-American man who was violently and forcefully subdued by Minneapolis Police, which resulted in his tragic death.  Some of the protests have been peaceful while others have escalated into vandalism, looting, destruction of property, and even violence.  Liddell, according to the report, was out in the streets looking to make sure that things didn’t go off the rails as business owners feared for their establishments and their own safety.  “It’s good to see people defending their city, and it’s terrible, violence begets violence. Violence doesn’t help anybody,” Liddell said.  “We all know what happened was wrong, everybody I know thinks it was wrong, it’s hard to watch,” Liddell continued, talking about the footage of Floyd being choked to death as a police officer knelt on his neck.  Liddell however says that violence, destruction, and looting isn’t the right way to go about protesting.  “But this does not help, destroying cities, destroying people, hurting people does not do any good for anybody. So hey, protest all you want, just do it peacefully.”  Another light heavyweight great, Jon Jones, was also seen actively trying to prevent destructive protesting in his area in New Mexico.  The 50-year old Liddell is best known for his career with the UFC, which spanned from 1998 to 2010. In 2005, Liddell captured the UFC Light Heavyweight Championship and defended it four times. In 2009, Liddell was inducted to the promotion’s Hall of Fame.  In 2018, Liddell came out of retirement after 8 years to face long-time rival Tito Ortiz in a trilogy bout which was the headliner of Golden Boy Promotions’ first MMA show. In or out of pool, Chloe Daos never sank, always swam

For the second season out of her three thus far, Chloe Daos is Ateneo de Manila University's top female athlete. Daos was hailed as The GUIDON-Moro Lorenzo Sportswoman of the Year alongside three-time champion and Finals MVP in men's basketball Thirdy Ravena who got the Sportsman nod. "Being recognized alongside Thirdy just truly makes me humbled and grateful," she said about her honor, her second in three years. "Never in my life would I have ever imagined getting this award and now, I get it for the second time so it's just unreal." With the Sportswoman of the Year award, the 20-year-old taking business management also received the recognition as Ambrosio Padilla Athlete of the Year - Ateneo's honor for being an achiever both as a student and as an athlete. Daos registered a QPI (Quality Point Index) of 3.75 for the second semester of the last school year. This, all while she won all seven of her events in the swimming competition in October of last year and wound up with a league record in the 200m butterfly. Without question, it was a tall task to balance time in the pool and in the classroom, but she was able to do so with much thanks to determination and discipline. "I was able to do it through giving equal importance both to academics and my sport. I do this by setting a schedule for the day and trying my best to follow it," she shared. This determination and discipline was rooted in previous failures which the three-time MVP made sure to learn from. Back in her sophomore year, Daos got a grade of C+ in calculus. "That was a six-unit course which had long exams every other weeks. I found it difficult to fully grasp because of my busy schedule," she said. Of course, getting to go to her dream school and join her dream squad was just the extra fuel to the former Athlete of the Year's already burning fire. "Back when I was in high school, I trained with the Ateneo swim team. When it was time to decide for college, I chose to go here because I looked up to several members of the team," she recalled. She then continued, "I wanted to be a part of that positive atmosphere they created." From then on, setting her sights on greater and greater heights in and out of the pool has been second nature for Daos. "I always try to focus on my goals, on why I started swimming in the first place. This helps me have something to work towards to," she said. And her second Sportswoman of the Year citation may very well be far from the end of it all as she has one more year of eligibility as an athlete and classes as an undergraduate student. Muzzle Mr. Met? Mascots wonder why they re banned from MLB

By DAN GELSTON AP Sports Writer PHILADELPHIA (AP) — The Phillie Phanatic had stories of his favorite adventures -- from the Galapagos Islands to the cobblestone streets of Philadelphia -- read to him most weeks from his very best buds. The Philly furball was tucked in with a bedtime story from Bryce Harper. Andrew McCutchen and manager Joe Girardi stopped by as guest readers to entertain fans and unite the Phillies community. But should the Phillies play ball this year, well, the book will close on the Phanatic. MLB wants to ban the birds -- sorry, Pirate Parrot -- and Bernie Brewer, Blooper, Bernie the Marlin, heck, all costumed creatures great and small from the ballpark this season. Firebird, Paws, the Oriole Bird, all face extinction -- at least this season, should baseball resume. Not even a muzzle on Mr. Met or a mask on Mariner Moose would help the cause. Gasp! Baseball’s furriest and funniest fans are forbidden from entering a ballpark. And that’s not cool. “Every mascot should be essential because of its ability to connect and distract with fun,” mascot guru Dave Raymond said. Raymond should know as well as any performer, as the first person to take on the 6-foot-6, 300-pound, 90-inch waist frame of the Phanatic. He’s since become a mascot consultant to the stars and helped create, brand and train the next generation of hundreds of stadium characters. Mascots are as much a ballpark staple as hot dogs and the long ball, and each fuzzy fist bump or chance concourse encounter hooks the youngest fans on the game. As baseball prepares for a summer slate without fans, Raymond wonders: What’s a game without a mascot? “You don’t have to convince me of that,” Raymond said. “It’s the powers that be that don’t understand that simple truth.” There’s already a blueprint MLB could follow that explains why mascots fit in barren ballparks. Take a look across the globe. Mascots remained a staple of baseball games in Taiwan and the KBO League in South Korea. American fans who stayed up late (or is it, woke up early?) to watch KBO games on ESPN were mesmerized by mascots gone wild in empty stadiums. The LG Twins mascots -- twin robot boys named Lucky and Star -- wore masks. So did cheerleaders and a drum section that provided the soundtrack for an otherwise dreary atmosphere. The Chinese Professional Baseball League barred spectators over concerns of spreading the new coronavirus in a crowded space, but the league decided it was safe to let in cheerleaders and costumed mascots. “This is the most important time to leverage fun, when people are sick and dying and dealing with the brutality of life,” Raymond said. “That is the time that you find a way to distract people and entertain them.” Philadelphia Inquirer cartoonist Rob Tornoe drew the Phanatic (wearing a mask) sitting atop the dugout with his phone and on hold with the unemployment office. “This is life or death now for a lot of characters, a lot of performers,” former Timberwolves mascot Jon Cudo said. It’s not that dire for most MLB performers who often have other duties within the organization or remained active in the community with food drives, firetruck parades or other feel-good efforts during the pandemic. Raymond had former and current mascots, including Cudo, join this week on his webinar, “What The Heck Should My Mascot Do Now?” The best suggestion to stay connected with fans -- with the ATV temporarily parked -- is engaging through social content. Mascot Mania has gone wild on Instagram and TikTok. Mr. Met cleans windows. D. Baxter the Bobcat taught crosswalk safety. Wally the Green Monster records virtual messages for charity. Then again, mascots have problems just like us: Who gives the Phanatic a trim during quarantine? “The Phanatic doesn’t need to get his hair cut,” Raymond said. “It’s actually a positive when it gets unkempt and long.” The Phanatic already underwent one makeover this year — his new look features flightless feathers rather than fur-colored arms, stars outlining the eyes, a larger posterior and a powder blue tail, blue socks with red shoes, plus a set of scales under the arms — because of a lawsuit filed against the team by the creators of the original Phanatic. The creators threatened to terminate the Phillies’ rights to the Phanatic as of June 15 and “make the Phanatic a free agent” unless the team renegotiated its 1984 agreement to acquire the mascot’s rights. Mascots were lumped in with other baseball traditions that would be weeded out under a 2020 proposal. The traditional exchange of lineup cards would be eliminated, along with high-fives, fist bumps and bat boys and girls. “I don’t know of anybody who bought season tickets to watch the bat boy,” Raymond said. “But you can say that in spades for the mascots. We’d be losing one of the draws that brings in people beyond the statistic nerds.” Plus, any fan who attended a Phillies game in the late 1990s at Veterans Stadium knows the Phanatic can play in an empty ballpark. Mascots just want to honk, honk, honk for the home team and they do care if they ever get back. “I’m just imploring them to value the character brands,” Raymond said. “There is a safe way for you to have fun, and frankly, fun is the most important thing you can invest in right now.”.....»»

Although ONE has yet to reveal the initial contestants who made the cut, Singh believes Sityodtong is looking for candidates who exhibit certain qualities as both executives, and as human beings. “‘The Apprentice’ needs to have all the traits that we already look for when we hire - the right values, the PHD factor (poor, hungry and determined - in spirit) and the will to win,” says Singh. “We look for dreamers who also have fire in their bellies to make their dreams come true.” Singh believes that to be successful on the show, contestants have to possess three important characteristics. “The first is resilience. It's not easy to work for Chatri, I assure you. So you better have had a lot of endurance training in the past,” says Singh. “The second is fearlessness. Chatri doesn't like yes men or women around him. You need to be able to speak up for what is right. The third is the near impossible trait of possessing a high functioning left brain and right brain, and a good proportion of IQ and EQ. “When it comes to choosing the winner, Chatri and I will definitely look for someone who lives and breathes the ONE Championship values. And those values do include the values of teamwork, integrity, and loyalty.” Contestants on The Apprentice: ONE Championship Edition will participate in what ONE describes as a “high-stakes game of business competitions and physical challenges.” At the end of the season, the winner will receive a US$250,000 job offer to work for a year directly under Sityodtong as his protege at the ONE Championship Global Headquarters in Singapore. Arocha wraps up Lady Chiefs stint with head held up high

Regine Arocha is calling it quits after five fruitful years donning the Arellano University jersey. The winger saw her collegiate women’s volleyball career end after the NCAA terminated Season 95 due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. Although the NCAA is looking at the possibility of extending the playing year of seniors of sporting events affected by the termination given they meet the eligibility requirements, Arocha has decided to hang up her Lady Chiefs jersey. The 2019 Collegiate Press Corps Volleyball Player of the Year for NCAA is looking forward to graduating from her Business Administration course this year. The NCAA does not allow student-athletes who have already graduated from their course to play further. “’Dun naman po sa extra playing year na binibigay nila, di na po siguro ako lalaro. Tama na po ‘yung six years in college,” said Arocha, who had to shift to an Education course before shifting back to Business Ad to max out her playing year. “Gusto ko na pong gumraduate,” she added. “My family is waiting for me to graduate po.” The two-time Finals Most Valuable Player admitted that it was disappointing to see her swan song end prematurely but understood that the decision of the league was for the welfare and safety of the players, officials, students and fans.   “Just like what I've said in my tweet, it hurts more than a heartbreak!”  said the do-it-all spiker. “Pinaghandaan po namin yun ng isang taon pero ganyan ‘yung nangyari.” “As a graduating player syempre goal po namin ‘yung magandang exit. Still I can't believe na ganito ‘yung nangyari,” she added. “But alam naman po namin na ‘yung safety po namin ‘yung iniisip nila kaya thankful din po kami sa pagiging caring nila.” Although it’s not the exit she envisioned, Arocha finished her tour of duty as the Queen Lady Chief with head held up high, leaving a winning legacy of three straight championships. By Nicole Kraft, Associated Press COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — They crowded into Nationwide Arena, 13,000 strong, cheering every shot, roaring with every basket. Many were not there to see the game. They came to see LeBron. Bronny James made his Ohio debut Saturday, and hit the go-ahead shot in the Sierra Canyon Trailblazers' 59-56 victory over the St. Vincent-St. Mary Irish. Sierra Canyon is 8-0. Watching, cheering loudest of all and pacing the sideline, was LeBron James, NBA great, father to Bronny, and St. Vincent-St. Mary’s most famous alum. The elder James led the Irish to three state titles in four years, bringing their games to the airwaves of ESPN airwaves and the pages of Sports Illustrated. Now it’s Bronny’s turn.   More than 400 credentialed media encircled the court to capture every pass, every dribble, every shot of the King’s firstborn, who would likely have worn an Irish jersey had the family not moved west so James could shine for the Los Angeles Lakers. LeBron James put Akron’s St. Vincent–St. Mary High School on the map nearly 20 years ago and has donated $2 million to the school, renovating the gymnasium that now bears his name and writing a $250,000 check to buy new uniforms for athletes and band members. His best friend, Willie McGee, is the athletic director. But his heart Saturday was clearly with the Trailblazers, as he yelled tips and encouragement from his court-side seat. With a timeout, James walked halfway on to the court, calling, “Let’s go! Let’s go!” to the Sierra Canyon bench and leaping to his feet when the Trailblazers took a first-half lead. “Before LeBron went to the Lakers, it was assumed Bronny would stay in Ohio and play at St. Vincent -St. Mary, and carry on the tradition,” Zach Fleer of 270 Hoops, central Ohio’s premiere prep basketball site, said. “Among freshman class, he is among the elite players, but he is not the best player in country. He’s not like his dad yet—he still has a ways to go, Right now I think he is a better shooter than LeBron was at that age. He’s 6-foot-2 now. If he stretches out to his dad size, there is no telling how good he can he.” James took a private plane from Miami to watch his son play high school ball live for the first time, but the game was about more than family by blood. He started the night having dinner with his St. Vincent-St. Mary teammates — the “Fab Five,” they were called when they were the biggest thing in high school basketball 17 years ago. Joining James court-side was his wife, Savannah, childhood friend and business partner Maverick Carter, and former Irish teammate Romeo Travis, who cheered his alma mater but shouted as Bronny James drove down the court, “Here we go young King!” LeBron James has anticipated the sight of his son facing his alma mater for some time. “A pretty surreal, come-full-circle, unbelievable thing,” LeBron James said. James and Dwyane Wade decided months ago that they would have their sons pair up at Sierra Canyon — just as they did in Miami from 2010 through 2014, winning two championships together with the Miami Heat. Now their kids are chasing a title, although Wade’s son Zaire was injured and did not play Saturday. LeBron James’ said his only regret so far being that his schedule with the Los Angeles Lakers takes him away from Trailblazers’ games. “I love what I do. I don’t take this for granted. This is a dream come true,” LeBron James said. “But missing my son, missing LeBron Jr., missing (younger son) Bryce’s first game the other day when we left for Orlando, missing my daughter at gymnastics and things of that nature, I understand it’s the business, but it sucks.” Sierra Canyon has been a well-known program in high school circles for some time — the Trailblazers have won the last two California Open Division state championships and were ranked nationally last year with a roster loaded with blue-chip prospects. Celebrity sightings are an everyday thing at the school where it costs $37,700 a year in tuition alone for high schoolers to attend: Recent Sierra Canyon rosters included the sons of former NBA players Scottie Pippen and Kenyon Martin. Marvin Bagley III played there. Kendall and Kylie Jenner attended the school. Drake has been to games as a fan. This year — with the oldest sons of James and Wade added to the mix — it has become a full-on spectacle. Saturday’s game was part of a four-game run that will see them play in four different states, California, Arizona, Ohio and next up will be Nevada in a few days. They’ve played in Texas already. Games in Massachusetts and New Jersey are later this season. ESPN will air 10 more Sierra Canyon games this season, with other games either on television or streamed. Bronny James being compared to his father is inevitable. The attention he draws is also enormous — videos of his first dunk, when he was 13, have been viewed on YouTube more than 20 million times and he has 3.8 million followers on Instagram.
