Julie Anne San Jose is confident Rayver Cruz will not cheat on her
When Rayver Cruz moved to GMA-7 in 2018 after 18 years of being under contract with ABS-CBN, he made many new friends in the Kapuso network, including its homegrown star Julie Anne San Jose. They worked together on the musical programs Studio 7 and when it folded in 2020, on All-Out Sundays, as well as in the reality competition show "The Clash". Rayver and Julie Anne also started working on a movie but filming halted when the Covid-19 pandemic hit in March 2020. Meantime, their friendship grew and developed into a romantic relationship. They made their status publicly known by exchanging “I love yous” during the singer-actress’ Julieverse concert in November 2022.The couple eventually resumed filming their first movie together, now titled "The Cheating Game", and is now showing in cinemas. “Ang surreal pa rin kasi napakabilis talaga ng panahon,” Julie Anne said in a recent online presser for the first film venture of GMA Public Affairs, in cooperation with GMA Pictures. It is directed by Rod Marmol, who also wrote the script with Sharon Masula and Jessie Villabrille. “We’re very, very excited and grateful kasi panibagong family, may new set of characters, new set of people to work with, a great production team. Everyone’s been so nice and accommodating, and sobrang maalaga sila. We had a healthy working environment.” “Mas na-excite ako kasi si Ray ulit ang katrabaho ko,” she added, referring to her on-and-offscreen leading man. “But this time, sa acting naman. Kasi usually nakikita kami sa The Clash, AOS, sa mga performances, hosting.” She went on mentioning their costars Winwyn Marquez and Martin del Rosario. “It’s such a delight kasi parang breath of fresh air. Very, very excited to show to everyone what we did.” Rayver expressed the same sentiments during media conference. “Sobrang excited, halo-halo ang nararamdaman ko, pero lamang ang excitement. Pinaganda naman ito nang husto. Siyempre first movie project namin. Excited and happy na mapabilang sa first movie project ng GMA Public Affairs.” He also declared being “very, very proud” of how his leading lady and girlfriend showed a “different Julie Anne” in the movie tackling the touchy topic of cheating in relationships. She plays Hope, an idealistic young professional who thinks she can change the world through the nongovernmental organization she’s set up with her fiancé. She then discovers her fiancé’s infidelity through a sex video that has gone viral. Her world crumbles until she meets Rayver’s character, Miguel,a self-made businessman who seems to be the Mr. Right that Hope is looking for. But is he really? Julie Anne agreed she’s showing a different side of her in the movie, especially since she just essayed the role of Maria Clara in the hit drama series "Maria Clara at Ibarra". “So ibang Julie naman ang makikita n’yo dito. I guess mas daring, bolder, stronger. I feel I had to take a leap of faith din, or I had to take risks din, like everyone din sa movie — si Ray, si Martin, si Win. It’s a team effort.” On cheating “May iba-iba kasing klase ng cheating,” Julie Anne pointed out. “If you watch 'The Cheating Game', lahat ng kinds ng cheating parang ando’n, lahat ng elements. I think it will also explain kasi may kanya-kanya tayong definition. “Pero for me, non-nego siya. Once it’s done, it’s done. But, most importantly, forgive yourself. ’Yun ang major takeaway ko sa film na ito as a viewer. But as someone who’s part of the cast, madami siyempre akong natutunan sa buong production, sa story.” Rayver put in his two cents, too. “Kahit saang side ka mapunta, iba-iba ang atake ng tao. Gano’n din ang mangyayari sa character namin ditong apat. Iba-ibang circumstances, reaction sa betrayal or sa cheating. Doon kami magtatagpo. Maganda ang lumabas kasi gina-guide kami.” When asked if she’s experienced being cheated on, Julie Anne gave this response: “Parang lahat naman tayo nakaka-experience ng ganitong mga sitwasyon. Not just in relationships, but in general, in life. Iba-iba talaga tayo ng coping mechanism. For me, it’s a non-nego. “Paano ako naka-move on? Sa akin kasi sobrang bigat na reason ang cheating. Mabilis akong maka-move on. Of course, surround yourself with people na sumusuporta sa ’yo kasi importante na may support system ka parati. Always be with your friends, your loved ones, family. Sila talaga ang talagang dadamay sa ’yo. “Importante rin na patawarin mo hindi lang ang taong nagkasala sa ’yo, pero patawarin mo rin ang sarili mo. Eventually, matututunan mong makabangon ulit. Iwasan mo — halimbawa naloko ka na — kasalanan ng iba. Sana huwag mong hayaan na mangyari ulit. At least you’ll know how to handle and deal with it.” Rayver offered a different perspective: “Siguro minsan okay na (ma-experience), ’yun kasi ang mga paraan na binibigyan ka ng lesson in life. Doon ka matututo, sa experience. Para sa future relationships, or pagsubok na ganyan, medyo aware ka na. Alam mo na how to handle. Lahat naman tayo nabubulag pag nagmahal tayo dahil grabe tayo magmahal. What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger. Kailangan mo ’yun, experience in life. “Kung sa kabilang side ka naman, na nag-cheater. Siguro mas okay na i-own mo na lang, and eventually maging mas honest. Para iwas sa super sakitan na mangyari. Naniniwala naman ako na lahat ng tao, nagbabago. Mas okay na maging happy lang tayo in life. Pampatibay, pampa-texture in life.” Julie Anne confidently declared that her current relationship would not end up as a casualty of cheating. “Kasi matagal na kaming magkaibigan. Naniniwala ako na ang friendship ang best foundation ng isang relationship. Hindi ko na kailangang mag-pretend. Hindi na rin niya kailangang mag-pretend. Kilala na namin ang bawat isa. Importante rin ang comfortability. And honesty.” Rayver plays Miguel, who seems to be the Mr. Right that Julie Anne’s character Hope is longing for (still from "The Cheating Game). National U s historic championship was an Altamirano family affair
National University's 60-year title drought came to a close in 2014. And according to head coach Eric Altamirano, it was already predetermined even before the season started. "Ang totoo nyan, nung offseason nun, puro kami talo, hindi talaga kami nananalo sa mga liga. One day, kasama ko si Luigi, kinukwento ko sa kanya na nag-struggle nga ang team," he shared in The Prospects Pod, referring to his second son. He then continued, "Pero sabi ni Luigi, 'Dad magcha-champion tayo ngayon.' As I look back now, I remember that day na sinabi nga ni Luigi yun and nagkatotoo nga." At the end of UAAP 77, Luigi proved prophetic, witnessing his dad guide the Bulldogs to a long-awaited and much-desired title. Of course, the dominant defense, the difference-making presence of Alfred Aroga, and the total team effort of the blue and gold contributed to that. At the same time, very much key was the all-out support of coach Eric's wife, children, and entire household. "Tinuring nila kami na parang sarili nilang mga anak," pesky guard Pao Javelona shared. "Sobrang grateful ko kanila tita Marissa pati sa wives ng iba pang coaches kasi iba yung turing nila sa amin. Sobrang laking bagay ng mga Altamirano sa amin." In the brilliant tactician's six-season stint in Sampaloc, wife Marissa, sons Anton and Luigi, daughter Aby, and several other members of the household were fixtures behind the scenes. While coach Eric was, well, coaching, the other Altamiranos were also right there as much-welcome helping hands - on or off the court. "Ako, tumira ako sa bahay nila, parang anak na talaga ang turing nila sa akin kasi sa iisang bubong lang kami nakatira," now-Gilas Pilipinas forward Troy Rosario said. "Pagpupunta kami ng practice, si coach Eric na nga gumigising sa akin. Si tita Marissa, lahat ng mga kailangan, kumpleto." Indeed, in the same way that coach Eric changed the culture of basketball in National U, so did he and his family change the lives of his players. "Siguro, nung first three years ko sa NU, sobrang pasaway ako sa kanya. Talagang hindi ako sumusunod kasi may sarili akong mundo nun na parang sobrang bilib siguro ako sa sarili ko," versatile wing Glenn Khobuntin said. He then continued, "Pero kung pinabayaan lang niya ako nun, hindi ko alam kung anong mangyayari sa life ko. Nadiretso buhay ko nung palagi pa rin niya akong kinakausap after practice." Now, Khobuntin has the Altamiranos as the template for what he wants his own family to become. "When I had my own family na, doon ko na-realize kung bakit niya ginagawa yun. Parang gusto ko ngang magmura kapag naiisip ko e," he said. He then continued, "Grabe. Sobrang thankful akong nakilala ko sila kasi hindi lang sa basketball yung impact nila sa akin e. Kung paano i-handle ni coach E yung family niya, ganun din gusto ko." In the end, the team captain of the Bulldogs' UAAP 77 champion team could do nothing but express how much he loved his mentor. "I love you, coach," Khobuntin said. "Thank you." Without a doubt, his teammates only share the same sentiments. --- Follow this writer on Twitter, @riegogogo. .....»»

Dela Rosa: FPRRD not nosy on VP Sara’s political issues
Former President Rodrigo Duterte is not prying on political issues concerning his daughter, Vice President Sara Z. Duterte, said Senator Ronald “Bato” Dela Rosa. “Hindi naman nakikialam si Pangulong Duterte, ‘no, pagdating sa gano’ng mga bagay. Hindi kami nakapag-usap tungkol diyan. Hindi siya nakikialam (President Duterte is not nosy when it comes to such thing. We have not talked about that. He is not interfering),” Dela Rosa said in a radio interview Sunday night. Earlier this week, some members of the House of Representatives eyeing realigning the confidential and intelligence funds of some civilian agencies, including the Department of Education and Office of the Vice President, to augment budgets of the intelligence and security forces tasked to resolve the increasing tensions in the West Philippine Sea. Dela Rosa emphasized that the former President respects the separation of the powers between the executive and legislative bodies. “The power of the purse solely belongs to the Congress. He never intervened even when he was the President, he respects the separation of powers of the executive and legislative branches of government,” he said. “On a personal note, wala siyang ginawang tawag, wala siyang ginawang pagbanggit at wala kaming ginawang pag-uusap patungkol diyan (On a personal note, he did not make any calls, he did not mention it and we did not talk about that matter,” he added. Dela Rosa was asked if the Senate would do the same plan to realign the civilian intelligence and confidential funds. He replied: “I can’t speak for and on behalf of my colleagues ‘no? The Senate is composed of 24 republics. May kanya-kanyang desisyon ‘yan, baka mamaya magkakamali ako sa aking forecast kasi pwedeng magbago, pwedeng magbago ‘yung isip ng isang senador pagdating sa botohan (They have their own decisions, maybe later I could make mistake in my forecast because it could change, a senator could always change his mind when voting time comes).” Dela Rosa said the chamber’s decision will always come out from the plenary session's result. “Hindi talaga ako makapagbigay sa’yo ng fearless forecast. Wala akong nakikita pa na magiging desisyon collectively ng ating Senado. So hintayin na lang natin (I couldn’t give you a fearless forecast right now. I still couldn’t see the collective decision in the Senate. So let’s just wait),” he stressed. As an ally to Dutertes, Dela Rosa sees the questioning of the OVP and DepEd’s CIF serves as “clear politicking” by the opposition. “So that’s... klarong pamumulitika ‘yan. Hindi naman lumabas ‘yang issue na ‘yan noon noong ang Vice President ay miyembro ng oposisyon (That’s a clear politicking. It does not came when the previous vice president was a member of the opposition). They were mum about that tackling of confidential and intelligence fund,” he said. Dela Rosa pointed out that the issue came with the opposition’s “aggressiveness” to downplay the possibility of Sara’s running as president in the next national elections. “Most likely pulitilka. May halong pulitika at ‘yun nga, meron din namang katuturan ‘yung mga sinasabi nila pero ‘yun nga, makikita mo ‘yung aggressiveness ay masasabi mo talaga may pamumulitika,” he said. The OVP has been in the limelight after the Commission on Audit reported that it has spent the P125 million CIF in just 11 days. Dela Rosa defended Sara noting that the COA’s report was only an observation and did not explicitly state that the OVP used its CIF in corruption. “Hindi naman sinabi ng COA na ‘yan ay corruption. That was an observation of COA na naubos (that it was exhausted) within that period of time. So is there a violation?" Dela Rosa said. Dela Rosa challenged Sara’s “detractors” to come out with evidence over the allegation that OVP and DepEd, under the vice president’s leadership, had utilized their CIF into graft and corruption. “Maghanap sila ng ebidensya na ito’y ibinulsa para siguruhin natin na ‘yung mga taong kurap ay hindi dapat manatili sa gobyerno. Pero kung ito’y ginamit sa tamang paraan (Find evidence that it was pocketed to make sure that corrupt individuals won’t last in the government. But if it is used appropriately), then my God, that’s Government Appropriations Act,” he said. The post Dela Rosa: FPRRD not nosy on VP Sara’s political issues appeared first on Daily Tribune......»»
Bong Go gives support to rebuilding efforts for fire victims in Caloocan City
Senator Christopher “Bong” Go's team provided assistance to 44 fire victims in Caloocan City on Thursday, September 28. In his video message during his team’s relief activity at Bulwagan ng Katipunan, Go reiterated his support to ensure that families recover from the damages incurred. “Sa mga nasunugan, huwag ho kayong mag-alala. Sabi ko nga sa inyo noon, ang gamit ay nabibili. Ang pera ay kikitain, subalit ‘yung perang kikitain ay hindi po nabibili ang buhay. A lost life is a lost life forever,” said Go. “Pangalagaan at ingatan po natin ang buhay at kalusugan ng bawat isa. Ang importante po magtulungan tayo, sino pa ba ang magtutulungan kung ‘di tayo lang po kapwa natin Pilipino. Kaya po nandirito kami ngayon para tulungan kayong lahat mga kababayan ko,” he added. Go, through his team, provided masks, shirts, and balls for basketball and volleyball to all affected individuals while he also gave away shoes to select recipients. Meanwhile, a team from the National Housing Authority (NHA) extended emergency housing assistance to qualified families to further help them recover and get the materials they need to rebuild their homes. “Mayroon po akong isinusulong na programa noon para sa NHA. Ito po ‘yung pambili ng housing materials. Bibigyan po kayo ngayong araw na ito ng pambili ng materyales tulad ng pako, yero at iba pang kagamitang pampaayos ng bahay. Patuloy nating sinusuportahan ang implementasyon ng programa para makatulong po sa mga nasunugan nating kababayan na makabangon muli,” Go explained. Go also cited that the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) is currently undergoing a modernization program following the enactment of Republic Act No. 11589, also known as the BFP Modernization Act of 2021, which he primarily authored and co-sponsored. The Act shall enable the agency to respond faster and more effectively to fire-related incidents in the country as the mandated modernization program shall include procuring new fire equipment, expanding manpower, and conducting specialized training for firefighters, among others. Furthermore, it also mandates the BFP to conduct monthly fire prevention campaigns and information drives in partnership with the Department of the Interior and Local Government and local government units. Go, chairperson of the Senate Committee on Health and Demography, also reached out to residents with health concerns, advising them to utilize the services of any of the 31 Malasakit Centers in Metro Manila, including the one at Dr. Jose N. Rodriguez Memorial Hospital in Caloocan city. Malasakit Centers function as one-stop shops that provide convenient access to medical assistance programs for poor and indigent patients. These programs are offered by various agencies, including the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), Department of Health (DOH), Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office, and the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation. Go is the principal author and sponsor of the Malasakit Centers Act of 2019, and there are currently 159 Malasakit Centers nationwide. According to DOH, these centers have helped more than seven million Filipinos. As vice chairperson of the Senate Committee on Finance, Go has also extended his support to several infrastructure initiatives in Caloocan City to help boost its economic growth, such as the construction of multipurpose buildings. ‘Hindi ko kayo dini-discredit’: Rendon Labador apologizes to Vice, Ion, Michael V.
Controversial "motivational speaker" Rendon Labador, who recently lost all his social media platforms apparently due to the mass reporting by netizens angry at the tirades he has directed at a number of well-loved celebrities such as Coco Martin, Vice Ganda and her partner Ion Perez, Nadine Lustre and Michael V., sat down with veteran showbiz scribe Ogie Diaz at the latter's YouTube channel to explain his side. Labador said his abrasive talk on social media is not personal -- he has nothing against the personalities he has targeted, whom he doesn't know personally, he said. But as the self-proclaimed "Boses ng Masa", he wants to correct the mistakes of people in the limelight so they could be good examples to the public. And his "laging galit" way of calling them out is just his tough style, said Labador, so he could challenge them to change for the better. Pointedly chided by Diaz that he seemed to come off as "perfect" and better than everyone else, not to mention being a clout-chaser, because of his penchant to slam well-known personalities, Labador acknowledged that his harsh words may indeed have hurt some people, and that he is learning to recognize his own shortcomings. In the end, Labador extended an apology to the people he had blasted -- but still with the caveat that he had no ill intentions whatsoever, and just wanted to "motivate" them to overcome his broadsides and become stronger. "Kung nasaktan ko man kayo, kay Vice, Ion, sa lahat ng artista, Michael V. -- I'm apologizing at wala akong masamang intention sa inyo. Hindi ko kayo dini-discredit. I'm thankful sa mga nagawa ninyo. Ang gusto ko lang matulungan, magising. Sana kasama ko kayo sa pagbago ng Pilipinas," he said. The next days and weeks should see whether Labador's charm offensive would see the return of his social media platforms, which he said has made social media personalities like him become the dominant forces in the current mediascape while traditional or mainstream media has become "laos" (outdated), fated to -- another bold declaration -- disappear in five years or so. The R&B artist added that the songs started out as journal entries until they ended up being a collection of songs that reflected his personal journey. “No’ng una akala ko magiging journaling journey ko lang siya at araw-araw akong iiyak, but it turned out to be the best project I did so far sa career ko. Bong Go joins Asian Games send-off; renews advocacy for athletes’ welfare
Senator Christopher "Bong" Go recognized athletes, coaches, and sports officials for their contributions to Philippine sports and their crucial roles in representing the nation on the international stage, during the send-off ceremony on Monday, 18 September, at the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC) in Pasay City, for Filipino participants in the 19th Asian Games and 4th Asian Para Games in Hangzhou, China. “Today, we gather here not only to celebrate the excellence of our athletes but also to bid them the best of luck as they embark on a journey to represent our great nation at the 19th Asian Games and 4th Asian Para Games in Hangzhou, China," said Go. Go took the opportunity to shed light on his proposed Senate Bill No. 2116, which aims to amend Republic Act No. 10699, also known as the National Athletes and Coaches Benefits and Incentives Act. "This bill which I authored carries the potential to bring about positive change in the lives of our athletes, particularly our para-athletes," he said. Go emphasized the need to increase the incentives for para-athletes, stating, "Sana po’y ma-increase naman rin po ang kanilang incentives na natatanggap dahil ‘yung honor po na dala nila sa ating bayan, pareho naman po ‘yong gold, silver, bronze at pinaghirapan rin po nila." The proposed measures seek to upgrade the incentives for para-athletes. This bill intends to provide equal opportunities and recognition to all athletes, thereby promoting inclusivity and diversity in sports. "The heart of this legislation is inclusivity and equality. It aims to elevate or increase the incentives for our para-athletes," he mentioned. Go, vice chairperson of the Senate Committee on Finance said he continues to advocate for additional budget for sports programs under the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC). "During the budget deliberation last year, ang ipinasa po na budget ng PSC more or less about P200 million. Ako po mismo sa Senado bilang inyong chairman po ng Committee on Sports and as vice chair ng Committee on Finance, isinulong ko talaga na madagdagan po ng P1 billion po ang pondo ng Philippine Sports Commission," he said. He revealed that during the budget deliberations last year, he sponsored and successfully secured financial support for athletes participating in international competitions such as the 2023 Southeast Asian Games, which took place in Cambodia, and the forthcoming Asian Games in China. He also disclosed the allocation of P50 million through the PSC for the Asian Games, along with P30 million specifically for Asian para-games. Go also highlighted the importance of collaboration between the government and the private sector in achieving sports excellence. "’Pag nagsama ang gobyerno at pribadong sektor, walang imposible.” Meanwhile, in his speech, the senator also touched on the state of sports facilities in the country, emphasizing the need for comfortable training grounds for athletes. "Ako, sa abot ng aking makakaya ay tutulong po ako sa ating mga sports program ng ating bansa," he assured. In line with his focus on grassroots sports development, Go also spoke about the National Academy of Sports (NAS), a fully operational institution located in New Clark City in Tarlac. "Ngayon po pwede na pong mag-aral at the same time mag-training, training at the same time mag-aral diyan po sa National Academy of Sports," he said. This initiative aims to ensure that athletes do not have to sacrifice their education for their sports careers. Former president Rodrigo Duterte signed RA 11470 in June 2020, which provides for the establishment of the NAS System and its main campus. Go was an author and co-sponsor of the measure. Go is also prioritizing the institutionalization of the Philippine National Games (PNG) as a platform to scout and recruit athletes for the national pool. He filed SBN 423, or the proposed PNG Act, which seeks to create a nationwide platform for athletes, particularly the youth, to display their abilities. During the ambush interview, Go also emphasized the importance of grassroots programs in encouraging youth to engage in sports and lead a healthy lifestyle. "Grassroots program, it's one way na ma-e-engganyo natin ang ating mga kabataan to get into sports, stay away from drugs, and to keep us healthy and fit," he said. He further elaborated on the connection between sports and health, saying, "Malaking bagay na fit tayo. Ang importante rin sa akin bilang chairman ng Senate Committee on Health, dalawa po 'yan. Importante sa akin ang sports at health. Magka-connect ang dalawang ito dahil para sa akin, kapag fit ka, healthy ka. Pangalagaan po natin ang kalusugan ng bawat isa. Katumbas ng kalusugan ay buhay ng bawat Pilipino." Toward the end of his speech, Go expressed his gratitude to President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. for his unwavering support for Filipino athletes. "Salamat po mga athletes. And of course, gusto ko rin pong pasalamatan ang suporta po sa atin ng ating mahal na Pangulong Bongbong Marcos sa suporta niya sa SEA Games, sa Asian Games, at sa lahat pa po ng future competition," he said. Go likewise extended his thanks to PSC Chairman Dickie Bachmann, Philippine Olympic Committee President Abraham Tolentino, and the Philippine Paralympic Committee President Michael Barredo for their ongoing support and contribution to the athletic community. He likewise thanked the athletes, para-athletes, and coaches for their dedication and sacrifices in training. "Athletes, para-athletes, coaches salamat po sa inyong lahat, sa inyong sakripisyo sa pagte-training. Alam kong ito na po ‘yung panahon na inaantay natin," Go said. As the athletes prepare for their journey to Hangzhou, China, Go assured them of his full support. "To our athletes, I know that we stand with you every step of the way. We believe in your potential, and we are confident that you will make our country proud on the international stage," he concluded. The upcoming Asian Games will be held in Hangzhou, China, from September 23 to October 8. The event was originally scheduled for 2022 but was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Benhur Abalos led the rollout of the "Buhay Ingatan, Droga’y Ayawan" (BIDA) Program in Zamboanga del Sur on Thursday morning. The BIDA Program launch was one of the highlights of the 71st Araw ng Zamboanga del Sur celebration at the Mega Gymnasium Provincial Government Complex, Dao, Pagadian City, which Abalos attended as a guest of honor and speaker. In his message before an estimated crowd of 1,500 Zambosurians, the DILG chief highlighted the critical role of local government units (LGUs) and other sectors of society in addressing the drug menace through education, prevention, and rehabilitation to complement the relentless anti-drug operations of law enforcement agencies. “Ang importante habang nanghuhuli ang mga pulis, tayong mga nasa LGU—mga barangay captain, konsehal, mayor, gobernador, bokal—community groups, religious leaders, parents, whole-of-nation approach dapat. Bumaba tayo, tulungan natin ang pulis. It’s not only about supply reduction. But most importantly, it's about demand reduction,” Abalos said. Furthermore, the DILG secretary congratulated the province of Zamboanga del Sur on its 71st Charter Day celebration. He also commended the leadership of Governor Victor J. Yu, who focused his governance through HEARTS or Health, Education and Environment, Agriculture, Roads and Bridges, Tourism, and Security. Abalos ended his message by inspiring local officials to continue heed the call of President Marcos for unity. “Iisang bangka tayo. We are given this opportunity, let's make the most out of it. It's time to make a difference for our province, for our city, and most specially for our country. Wala nang sana ganito, sa ganyan sa Pilipinas, wala na. Panahon natin 'to gawin na natin ang tama at huwag tayong matakot. Magtulungan tayo," he said. Named as one of the best government initiatives in Asia by international award-giving body GovMedia Awards, the BIDA Program has already been rolled out to over 700 LGUs nationwide since it was officially launched in November last year, initiating several activities such as BIDA Fun Runs, Serbisyo Caravans, Zumba sessions, cycling events, workshops, and seminars. Meanwhile, DILG Undersecretary for Local Goverment Marlo Iringan, during the Laging Handa press briefing in Malacañang, said the BIDA Program has been going around the country, in line with the administration of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.'s continued campaign against illegal drugs with a renewed focus on demand reduction through a whole-of-nation approach. Subalit katulad ng nabanggit ko, this is only one of the strategies to generate support against illegal drugs. DILG and Xavier University-Ateneo de Cagayan partner on BIDA The DILG's BIDA Program has also gained anti-illegal drug advocates among the youth of Cagayan de Oro with the signing of a memorandum of agreement with Xavier University-Ateneo De Cagayan. Abalos said the important role of schools like Xavier University-Ateneo De Cagayan and the church in the whole-of-nation BIDA campaign dwells on the holistic formation of the values of the youth and helping them lead productive lives away from the temptation of illegal drugs. DILG Region X Regional Director Wilhelm M. Suyko, who signed the MOA on behalf of the DILG, said youth involvement is a significant and strategic approach to further strengthen the advocacy of the program. “The good thing about this partnership is that this will also be an opportunity to involve the youth in this campaign. We believe that our students could make a change and that they are our instruments in communicating effectively with the youth as well,” Suyko said. Actress and Quezon City councilor Aiko Melendez has fulfilled another milestone: She recently graduated from the Philippine Women’s University with a Bachelor’s degree in Communication Major in Journalism at age 47. The Wildflower actress shared her graduation photos on Facebook and Instagram, along with her thoughts on her experience as a latter-day student and words of gratitude for her professors, classmates and family. “It may have taken me years to finally finish my degree but despite a lot of hurdles and heavy workloads from being an artist and a public servant, I made sure to still make it,” she wrote. In a separate post, Melendez shared her official graduation photo as she looked back on how she was able to manage being a mother, an actress, a politician and a student all at the same time. Kasi natuto akong pahalagahan ang mga bagay na dapat nuon ko pa nabigyan ng pansin pero bakit nga ba ngayon lang? Kasi inuna ko muna tuparin ang mga pangarap ko para sa pamilya ko. Ang mabigyan sila ng kumportableng buhay (Everything looks easy from afar, but the truth is, I can’t help but wonder how I was able to juggle everything. How? By learning to focus now on things I should have done way back. Why did I only do it now? I wanted to fulfill my dreams first for my family, to give them a comfortable life). Melendez recalled that it took a lot of hard work, sacrifice and sleepless nights to reach this point in her life, and promised that she would make everyone proud as a mother and a public servant. “Gusto ko mapagmalaki nyo ako hindi lang sa mabuting puso na meron ako kundi sa pagpupursige ko sa buhay… This is Aiko Melendez officially! Graduate na po ako… Ang edukasyon walang pinipiling edad basta matuto ka lang alamin ang gusto mo (I want you to be proud of me, that I am not only a woman with a good heart but someone who perseveres in life… This is Aiko Melendez officially! I am already a graduate! Education knows no age as long as you have the heart to learn). A few weeks before the actress-turned-politician got her diploma, Melendez celebrated her 16-year-old daughter Marthena’s completion of a course in law at Somerville College, a constituent college of the University of Oxford in England. Melendez has had a lengthy career in the entertainment industry. She started as a child star in the 1980s and has been acclaimed as one of the best, most-awarded actresses of her generation. She also has a heart for public service. She is currently a councilor in Quezon City, a position she had previously held from 2001 to 2010. Melendez joins the roster of celebrities who finished their schooling this year, proving that education should not be a race but a journey. Television host Karla Estrada, Olympic gold medalist Hidilyn Diaz and sexy star AJ Raval all graduated in July, while It’s Showtime host Jhong Hilario graduated in June with a degree in Political Science, magna cum laude. New slogan, same tack?
We remember distinctly how students of the seventies were made to sing to the strains of the then-required Bagong Pagsilang hymn, a paean to the newly established New Society of Ferdinand Marcos Sr., father of the incumbent. The march, incorrectly referred to by its chorus Bagong Lipunan (New Society), was commissioned during the presidency of the older Marcos for the Kilusang Bagong Lipunan, a movement introduced upon the declaration of martial law in 1972. Its lyrics were written by the legendary Levi Celerio and the music was composed by Felipe de Leon in 1973. “May bagong silang. May bago nang buhay. Bagong bansa, bagong galaw sa Bagong Lipunan!” The new generation may not have much recollection of the song other than the version of the present-day rock band Plethora, whose rendition was used as the campaign anthem by the son, Bongbong Marcos, during last year’s presidential campaign. It was also used by Marcos Jr. during the 78th Leyte Landing anniversary last October and his camp visit to the Eastern Mindanao Command in Davao City a week later. “Magbabago ang lahat, tungo sa pag-unlad. At ating itanghal: Bagong Lipunan!” The composer’s eldest son, Felipe, recounted that two days after the declaration of martial law, at around 2 a.m., two military trucks came to their house with an officer who asked for a “hymn and a march for the New Society,’’ as requested supposedly by then First Lady Imelda Marcos, to be delivered in a couple of days. “Ang gabi’y nagmaliw nang ganap. At lumipas na ang magdamag. Madaling araw ay nagdiriwang. May umagang namasdan.” The song was first released on radio and television during the early days of martial law as an anthem to trumpet Marcos Sr.’s vision of a new society for Filipinos. It also gave rise to the movement called Kilusang Bagong Lipunan, a political vehicle of the then administration. “Ngumiti na ang pag-asa, sa umagang anong ganda!” Depending on which side of the fence you were on those days, the present-day rendition of the march evokes memories that are either bad or good. Critics see it as nothing but propaganda that brings back chills to their spines, while others consider it a patriotic song that could help guide the country’s progress. That part of history came rushing back to us, particularly when the incumbent came up with his Bagong Pilipinas as the overarching theme of his administration’s brand of governance and leadership. Malacañang says this official branding, as contained in Memorandum Circular 24, calls for a deep and fundamental transformation in all sectors of society and government. The new logo was “produced internally” by the government’s lead communications arm without the use of public funds, according to the Presidential Communications Office. Take note, Bongbong’s new campaign slogan and logo came less than a week following Pagcor’s logo controversy. It’s common for presidential administrations to come up with government slogans, but not so common for them to launch them with a logo. There’s Rodrigo Duterte’s “Change is Coming,” Benigno Aquino III’s “Daang Matuwid,” and Joseph Estrada’s “Erap Para sa Mahirap,” to name a few. The PCO explained that the Bagong Pilipinas logo shows various stages of development in the Philippines’ journey toward the future. The three red stripes refer to the Philippines’ post-war agricultural and rural development, the post-colonial period, and the current metropolitan development. The blue stripes show a “progressive Philippines that leverages technological advancement in pursuing sustainable industrial development.” The rising sun signifies the dawn of a new Philippines, while the weave pattern illustrates the interconnectedness and unity of the Filipino people. “Overall, the Bagong Pilipinas logo embodies the Marcos administration’s vision for the country, emphasizing unity, involvement, and the bayanihan culture as the main fibers and components for its full realization,” the PCO said. We really don’t know if this new vision of the younger Marcos would translate into something similar to what his father started back then. Or would it eventually become a political vehicle just as his father’s was? At any rate, we just hope that the son would live up to the expectations of most Filipinos and that in the future, the memory of it won’t send chills down our spines. *** e-mail-mannyangeles27@gmail.com The post New slogan, same tack? appeared first on Daily Tribune......»»
