Go comforts fire victims in Pritil
Senator Christopher “Bong” Go visited and extended assistance to the victims of a recent fire in Tondo on Wednesday, 10 May. A fire broke out in the neighborhood on 18 April gutting parts of Pritil Public Market and leaving 672 vendors adversely affected. In response, Go held a relief operation at Barangay 91 covered court and provided grocery packs, masks, vitamins, and snacks to the affected vendors. The senator also gave away bicycles, mobile phones, shoes, bags, watches, and balls for basketball and volleyball to select recipients. That day, the Department of Social Welfare and Development gave financial assistance to all qualified vendors. “Mayroon lang po akong paalala sa inyo. Kung ano ‘yung matatanggap ninyo ngayong araw na ito, dalahin n’yo po sa inyong mga pamilya, pagkain po, baon sa inyong mga anak, unahin n’yo muna. ‘Yun lang po ang aking pakiusap sa inyong lahat,” said Go in his speech. Upon the request of Go, the DSWD also conducted further validation and assessment for possible sustainable livelihood grants that can be extended to the fire victims. “Ang (Sustainable Livelihood Program) ay isa po sa programa na sinusuportahan ko, under ito sa DSWD. Bibigyan kayo ng puhunan, tuturuan po na magnegosyo at paano palaguin ito. Mas masarap po ang pakiramdam kapag pinaghirapan at pinagpawisan ninyo ang inyong pagnenegosyo,” he cited during the ambush interview after the event. “Palaguin n’yo ang inyong negosyo. Importante ‘wag pong malugi… kapag kumita ay dalahin n’yo sa inyong pamilya,” he added. Go also took the opportunity to express his gratitude to the firefighters who worked tirelessly to put out the blaze. For his part as a senator, Go primarily authored and co-sponsored Republic Act No. 11589, otherwise known as the BFP Modernization Act, which mandates a ten-year modernization program for the bureau that includes the acquisition of new fire equipment, hiring of additional personnel, and provision of specialized training for firefighters. It also directs the BFP to conduct monthly fire prevention campaigns and information drives in every local government unit, in partnership with the Department of the Interior and Local Government. “Mga kababayan ko, tandaan natin ang gamit nabibili, ang damit (ay) nalalabhan, ang pera kikitain, ang damit (ay) nabibili. Pero ang buhay ay hindi nabibili ng pera. A lost life is a lost life forever. Kaya mag-ingat tayo at magpasalamat tayo sa Panginoon na buhay po tayo at huwag po tayong mawalan ng pag-asa,” expressed Go. The senator was accompanied by Congressman "Ernix" Dionisio, Jr. and other local officials who continue to serve the community. “Magtulungan lang po tayo at makakabangon tayong muli. Kilala po ang Pilipino sa pagtutulungan. Kaya po kami nandirito para makatulong man lang sa inyo kahit papaano. Hindi man namin masagot ang lahat, pero importante po magtulungan tayo na maka-recover at makapaghanapbuhay kayong muli,” he continued. He likewise urged those with health concerns to seek the services of the Malasakit Centers located in the city, including Tondo Medical Hospital, Philippine General Hospital, Dr. Jose Fabella Memorial Hospital, Jose R. Reyes Memorial Medical Hospital, and San Lazaro Hospital. A brainchild of Go, the Malasakit Centers program provides one-stop shops designed to help particularly poor and indigent patients with their medical expenses by bringing partnered agencies under one roof, such as the DSWD, Department of Health, Philippine Health Insurance Corporation, and Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office. The senator likewise supported DOH in its initiative to build more Super Health Centers nationwide, including those in Barrio Magsaysay in Tondo, Valeriano Furgoso in Santa Cruz which were funded in 2022, as well as in Esperanza in Sta. Mesa, Maria Clara in Sampaloc, Atang dela Rama, and Palomar, both also in Tondo, which were funded in 2023. Super Health Centers offer health services including database management, out-patient, birthing, isolation, isolation, diagnostic (laboratory: x-ray, ultrasound), pharmacy and ambulatory surgical unit. Other available services are eye, ear, nose, and throat (EENT) service, oncology centers, physical therapy and rehabilitation center and telemedicine where remote diagnosis and treatment of patients will be done. In line with his efforts as Vice Chair of the Senate Committee on Finance, Go also supported the construction of multipurpose buildings and road improvements in several barangays, the structural improvement of public buildings, and the construction of evacuation centers. He also supported the acquisition of medical and educational supplies, surveillance system, rescue patrol service, ambulances, and multipurpose vehicle; and the purchase and installation of solar-powered street lighting for the city. Prioritizing inclusive healthcare for Filipinos
Providing inclusive healthcare for all Filipinos should always remain a priority. As chairperson of the Senate Committee on Health, my legislative agenda is to ensure that those with less in life are given more benefits and attention from the government, especially regarding healthcare. My constant appeal to health officials is to ensure all Filipinos in need get medical care regardless of their geographic and economic situation. This is precisely the sentiment I wanted to impart when the Commission on Appointments took up the appointment of Department of Health Secretary Teodoro “Ted” Herbosa. The health department has my full support, so I am happy to note that Secretary Herbosa committed his support for the continuing implementation of the Malasakit Centers program and other key public health initiatives. As principal sponsor and author of Republic Act 11463 or the Malasakit Centers Act of 2019, it is fulfilling to know that the program is instrumental in providing medical assistance to over seven million indigent Filipinos through the 159 currently operational Malasakit Centers nationwide. Prioritizing the establishment of Super Health Centers in strategic areas in the country will also help make healthcare more inclusive for Filipinos. With the support of my colleagues in both houses of Congress, we are looking at more than 600 Super Health Centers to be built nationwide. These centers will provide primary healthcare and medical consultations, and help promote early detection of illnesses, which will decongest hospitals in the long term. My advocacy for inclusive healthcare has been strengthened with the enactment of RA 11959, or the Regional Specialty Centers Act. This newly enacted law, which I principally sponsored as one of the authors, will establish specialized medical centers within existing DoH regional hospitals. It will help bring specialized medical services closer to every region and will, in effect, make the health department’s services more inclusive. Sufficient funds must be allocated for the Regional Specialty Centers for its effective implementation in the coming years. While we are doing everything to make healthcare more accessible to Filipinos, let us not forget our healthcare workers. I am appealing to DoH and our finance managers to make sure that the benefits due to our healthcare workers in accordance with prevailing laws are released efficiently and without further delays. Moreover, my regular engagement with communities in need continues to be part of my advocacy to promote inclusivity so that those with less can still get the best public services they need and deserve. As Chair of the Senate Committee on Sports, I call upon every Filipino to rally behind our athletes competing in the Hangzhou Asian Games from 23 September to 8 October. Our athletes have trained tirelessly, sacrificing time, effort, and personal comforts to represent our nation on this grand stage. They carry not just their personal ambitions but the pride and hopes of an entire country. Let us show them that they are not alone in this journey. As your public servant, I assure fellow Filipinos that I will continue to push for inclusive public service delivery, particularly in healthcare and especially for the poor, to the best of my abilities in pursuit of social justice and development for all. General Trias prepares for landmark condo project
Despite its proximity to the populous metropolis, General Trias City in Cavite, one of the country’s more progressive provinces, has remarkably retained its halcyon character. For one, it has preserved its Spanish-era churches and, to this day, a reverence for its many-storied past. Gentri, as it is sometimes called, is, in fact, just a stone’s throw away from landmarks such as the site of the Tejeros Convention — the first election in Philippine history. In December 2015, however, General Trias had sufficiently adapted to urbanization to merit conversion into a first-class component city of Cavite. Today, Gentri boasts such modern spoils as hotels, a championship golf course and fine residential enclaves — products of a burgeoning economy that turned in a revenue of over P2 billion in 2022, according to the Department of Trade and Industry. Indeed, Gentri has become increasingly more appealing to a growing market of longtime city dwellers looking to relocate to more tranquil places south of the metro. Quick to rise to the challenge, affordable condo developer Asterra has expanded into General Trias, intent on building homes that hardworking Filipinos can afford. [caption id="attachment_163851" align="aligncenter" width="645"] Asterra General Trias assures that unit sizes and configurations will suit its prospective residents’ lifestyles.[/caption] Strategically situated in the heart of the vibrant city, Asterra General Trias is a prime location from which essential amenities and the comforts of everyday living are just a short drive or commute away. Its future residents will be able to stay close to nature while having access to commercial centers, educational institutions, healthcare facilities and major transport networks. Asterra’s intent to create exceptional living spaces is reflected in the thought and care put into the condominium units’ design, interior layouts and recreational facilities. Asterra General Trias assures that unit sizes and configurations will suit its prospective residents’ lifestyles, whether young professionals, growing families, retirees or returning overseas workers. Potential buyers are also in for a treat as Asterra General Trias provides both affordability and uncompromising quality. The latter is evident in every development aspect — from premium materials to meticulous attention to detail. Future homeowners can likewise expect a secure and well-maintained environment that goes with the family-centric community. As for affordability, Asterra General Trias is set to roll out its flexible payment options and unit pricing within the year. Homegrown Caviteños and those seeking the peace of the countryside can rest assured that the Asterra condo lifestyle will soon be within their reach.
