ABS-CBN launches National Cheer campaign during Pacquiao fight

One nation, one voice, one cheer. ABS-CBN launches a song in celebration of the string of victories that Filipinos have achieved in the international arena, showing the greatness of our people to the world. Entitled “Galing Natin Ito!” and sang by 29 Kapamilya artists, the song highlights the heart, wisdom, and strength of Filipinos that enable them to triumph over challenges in life. The song’s recording music video premiered during the fight of Sen. Manny Pacquiao and Keith Thurman that exclusively aired on ABS-CBN platforms including Channel 2, SKY Sports PPV, S+A, and iWant. It features Angeline Quinto, Bamboo, Billy Crawford, Daniel Padilla, Darren Espanto, Erik Santos, Gary Valenciano, Gloc 9, Iñigo Pascual, Jason Dy, Jed Madela, Kyla, KZ Tandingan, Martin Nievera, Moira Dela Torre, Morissette Amon, Ogie Alcasid, Piolo Pascual, Regine Velasquez-Alcasid, Sarah Geronimo, Shanti Dope, Toni Gonzaga, TNT Boys Mackie Empuerto, Francis Concepcion, at Keifer Sanchez, Yeng Constantino and ZsaZsa Padilla. “Galing Natin Ito!” aims to unite Filipinos in showing support to our fellowmen who are raising the flag of the Philippines and bringing glory to the country in their respective fields and professions. They include athletes like Pacquiao, who continues to make history in boxing, beauty queens like Pia Wurtzbach and Catriona Gray who were named Miss Universe because of their beauty, wit, and advocacy, and thousands other of Filipinos making their mark around the globe. The song is the official theme of ABS-CBN’s National Cheer Campaign that celebrates the success of Filipinos to inspire the nation to unite and help unleash each other’s potential for greatness. With its catchy lyrics and melody, “Galing Natin Ito!” can be used to cheer on Filipinos during international competitions to boost their morale and make our presence felt in the world just like how it is done in basketball, volleyball, boxing, and football events. China to donate 500,000 doses of COVID-19 vaccines to PH — Palace

Malacañang said Saturday that the Chinese government will donate 500,000 doses of COVID-19 vaccines to the Philippines as the two countries reaffirmed ties and cooperation against the pandemic. Chinese State Counselor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi (DFA OFFICIAL TWITTER ACCOUNT/ MANILA BULLETIN) The Office of the President (OP) made the statement as Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Affairs Minister Wang Yi made a 40-minute courtesy call to President Duterte in Malacañang Saturday. In a statement, the OP said that Wang assured Duterte of China’s commitment to support the Philippines’ efforts to combat COVID-19, a disease that originated in Wuhan, China. “He (Wang) announced that China will donate 500,000 doses of COVID-19 vaccine to the Philippines. He likewise affirmed China’s resolve to do everything to ensure that vaccines become a global good,” Malacañang said. According to Malacañang, Duterte lauded the continued high-level engagement between the Philippines and China even amid the pandemic and stressed the importance of both sides delivering on the promises of the Comprehensive Strategic Cooperation. Duterte stressed that cooperation on public health must be strengthened, particularly access to safe and effective vaccines, to safeguard the health of the people and in order to hasten the economic recovery of both nations and their neighboring countries. “The recovery of nations… sits on the back of stronger economies,” Duterte told Wang. “China plays a very key role in reviving our region’s economy. Let us do all we can to revive economic activities between the Philippines and China,” he added. Malacañang said that Duterte thanked China for its continuing support and cooperation in the country’s fight against COVID-19 in terms of medical equipment and supplies and sharing of experiences and expertise as well as in the repatriation of Filipinos. Duterte appoints Galvez as vaccine czar; ‘good choice’, say lawmakers

He expressed his dislike with the creation of committees since the process will take long.  “As I have said earlier during the start of the COVID, I only want one line of authority coming from dito sa the Task Force sa pagbili ng bakuna, the negotiation, manufacture, negotiation, production or distribution is ibinigay ko ‘yan kay Secretary Galvez,” he said. “I have great faith in Charlie to really come up with the solutions for the problem,” he added. Presidential spokesman Harry Roque defended the additional assignment given to Galvez, saying the planned immunization drive would involve “more of a logistics challenge than a medical challenge.” Galvez, who joined the Duterte Cabinet in 2018, also currently serves as chief implementer of the government’s plan to fight the coronavirus outbreak. Meanwhile, members of the House of Representatives lauded Galvez’s designation as vaccine war, among them: Representatives Michael Defensor, Roger Mercado, Ronnie Ong, Alfred Vargas and Rosanna Vergara. “It’s more of a logistics challenge than a medical challenge,” Roque explained. He said the only medical issues involved in the vaccine purchase are related to safety and efficacy of the drugs. This matter, he said, will be handled by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).  He said Galvez is expected to continue his close coordination with the Department of Health and other agencies that will be involved in the vaccination drive. “Gen. Galvez would have the hindsight of what happened and the understanding of the COVID baseline. What we need is the leadership and managerial skills in taking the lead of the COVID vaccine campaign,” Defensor, chairperson of the House Committee on Public Accounts, said in a text message when asked if the vaccine czar should have been a medical doctor.  “I support the President’s appointment of Sec Galvez.  Galvez is an innovative  administrator. He can be trusted to implement the program well,”  Mercado said in a separate text message.  “We are happy that the president is preparing early and appointing someone to lead is good news,” Ong said.  Vargas also rallied behind the  the decision of President Duterte to appoint Galvez, saying that “we don’t need a doctor but a manager for this job.” Vergara also gave her vote of confidence to Galvez.  “Being the COVID-19 policy chief implementer, he has a clear overview of the COVID-19 situation in the county and such knowledge is very crucial in the distribution of the vaccine. I am sure, there are medical experts who advise the good Secretary,” she said.  “I am assuming  the vaccine chosen has already passed all testing and FDA approvals , the challenge will be to properly allocate and distribute it fairly across the country to the most vulnerable  and this is the challenge anyone who heads this Task Force will face– how do you properly allocate this should the vaccine supply be limited because of world wide demand? Volleyball community doing its share in fight vs. COVID-19

The Philippine volleyball community is once again showing unity, this time in the battle against the coronavirus (COVID-19). Volleyball stars are auctioning off their jerseys to raise funds for our frontliners or packing and delivering relief goods in their community while fans are doing their share by through monetary donations and following the government's directive to stay at home to curb the spread of the virus. Creamline setter Jia Morado is currently leading a fund-raising campaign, Every Little Thing Counts, to purchase personal protective equipment (PPEs) and facemasks for frontliners risking their lives to care and help our kababayans infected by the deadly virus. She started off by putting her Ateneo de Manila University jersey from Season 79 for bidding as other players followed suit. Ara Galang of De La Salle University put up her jersey for bidding last Saturday. On Sunday, University of Sto. Tomas Tigresses Eya Laure, Imee Hernandez, Maji Mangulabnan, Det Pepito and Janna Torres joined the drive by putting up their Season 80 girls’ volleyball jerseys for bidding. Mika Reyes on Monday led eight other members of the Philippine Superliga team Sta. Lucia Lady Realtors in donating their jerseys for the auction. Pam Lastimosa, Royse Tubino, Bang Pineda, Djanel Cheng, Ruby De Leon, Amy Ahomiro, Marje Tejada and Alex Bollier all participated in the campaign. Genesis Redido of UST men’s volleyball team provided assistance to frontliners and victims of a recent fire in his hometown in Bacoor, Cavite.        Bea De Leon of ChocoMucho extended a helping hand to her community in Marikina City. 'NBA Together' Campaign Launched in Response to Coronavirus Pandemic

While the coronavirus pandemic has suspended the 2019-20 NBA season, it has not lessened the league's global impact and reach. Over the past week, 20 NBA and WNBA players created public service announcement videos to share important health and wellness information about ways to reduce the spread of the coronavirus. Those videos have generated more than 37 million views across the league's social media accounts. The league is using its vast digital footprint and the powerful voices of teams, players, coaches, doctors and others across the NBA family to launch "NBA Together" - a global community and social engagement campaign that aims to support, engage, educate and inspire youth, families and fans in response to the coronavirus pandemic. As part of NBA Together, the NBA family is committed to contributing and helping raise more than $50 million to support people impacted by the coronavirus and community and healthcare organizations providing vital services around the world, which includes the more than $30 million financial commitment already made by NBA and WNBA teams and players to date. NBA Together is centered on four key pillars that will amplify the latest global health and safety information, share guidelines and resources, and keep people and communities socially connected through digital tools and virtual events as everyone copes with the impact of the pandemic: 1. Pinoy achievers come together to celebrate Filipino greatness in Galing Natin Ito event

Some of the country’s achievers including former Miss Universe Pia Wurtzbach and international sensation TNT Boys came together to celebrate Filipino greatness last Sunday (November 10) in line with the National Cheer Campaign. Launched last July, the campaign aims to highlight the success of Filipinos in the world stage to inspire the nation to unite and help unleash each other’s potential for greatness. The song "Isigaw Mo" #GalingNatinIto, performed by over 20 OPM artists, serves as the campaign's anthem. Joining Pia and TNT Boys Francis Concepcion, Keifer Sanchez, and Mackie Empuerto at Robinsons Magnolia were Gloc 9, Leanne & Narra, Pao Gumba, JKris, the Philippine All Stars, the Dancesport Philippine Team, and the UPHSD Altas Perpsquad. Join the movement against marine plastic pollution!

On June 8, 2019, adidas Philippines and Parley For The Oceans celebrated World Oceans Day as it launched the new FW19 adidas x Parley collection and Run For The Oceans 2019 campaign. adidas x Parley Run for the Oceans 2019 was held at Air Juan Seaplane Terminal in Pasay City. The adidas community ran for the oceans in a 3 kilometer plog. The plogging session, which is a Scandinavian trend for picking up litter while jogging, was followed by a refreshing yoga class and informative talks on the environment by organizations The Plastic Solution and Kids For Kids. Kids for Kids— a non-profit organization solely run by kids, for kids in need— and The Plastic Solution— a movement of repurposing plastic bottles by stuffing the bottles with non-biodegradable wastes— were present to help raise awareness on the marine plastic pollution problem and the ways people can do their part in helping solve this. The Plastic Solution conducted a demonstration on eco brick making while Kids For Kids shared simple ways we can try to practice living sustainably— such as supporting local projects like Retaso PH, an initiative that uses textile waste to create an alternative to plastic bags. The event aimed to educate guests on the threat of marine plastic pollution through informative product displays and activities that would engage more people to join the movement of running for the oceans. There was an artwork installation made out of plastic bottles and guests got to explore an educational area where they learned the entire process of adidas Parley products, as well as how the Parley Ocean School Program works. adidas also introduced the new Alphabounce+ Parley which is available for Php5,300 online and in adidas stores. Jordan Clarkson and this Basketball Crazy Nation

The Philippines was not always a basketball nation. After World War II, all Filipino boys would get out in the fields and play baseball. In fact, we hosted the World Baseball Championships once. It was only in the 70’s when PBA came along and when the country became the basketball crazy country that it is. Now, the Philippines is at the epicenter of the basketball diaspora. It hosted the FIBA World Basketball Championships. Almost every boy grew up playing pickup basketball and anyone and everyone had their own signature ‘bali’ move. There was a time that fathers and sons (and of course, daughters) watched games together, either cheering for the same teams or making jabs at each other because they rooted for rivals. It has the oldest basketball league in the Asia and now, it has a player of Filipino descent playing for one of the greatest basketball franchises in the world – Jordan Clarkson, playing a vital role as a member of the Los Angeles Lakers. Clarkson was raised aware of his Filipino heritage. Annette, Clarkson’s mother, hails from Pampanga but moved to America with her mother Marcelina Tullao at a very young age. Annette then met Jordan’s father, Mike Clarkson, while serving as a reservist in the Air Force. Jordan, like many young Filipino-Americans, professes a love for lumpia and chicken adobo. As a high school student at Metzger Middle School in San Antonio, Texas, he wore an ornate Barong Tagalog, the Philippines' national costume, while posing in front of the Philippine exhibit. He has been to the Philippines multiple times, even playing some pickup basketball in one of the courts that dot the landscape of the Philippines.   And as of this writing, a little more than a day and a half a way, Filipinos are trying to get Jordan into the biggest event of the basketball world – the NBA All-Stars. It all started from a call on the internet to start voting and using the hashtag 'NBAVOTE Jordan Clarkson on posts and tweets and the Filipinos heard that call. 'NBAVOTE Jordan Clarkson began circulating around the internet, snowballing into a call not just for Jordan Clarkson, but a call for unity in a country that is also known as a social media powerhouse – and the world is starting to take notice. Jordan Clarkson has also taken notice of the efforts, posting on his Facebook account a short video saying, “Hey Facebook fans just want to say thank so much for all your votes. I am so humbled. Please keep posting 'NBAVOTE Jordan Clarkson. Salamat salamat po. Mahal ko kayo.” As of the latest NBA All-Star Voting Returns, Jordan still has not cracked the top 10 of Western Conference guards. Last year’s unanimous MVP, Golden State’s Stephen Curry, leads with 990,390 votes. Close behind are Houston’s James Harden and Oklahoma’s Russell Westbrook with 961,185 and 899,024, respectively. Laurice Guillen praises Korean dramas for excellent stories, great production value

Korean dramas have earned praise from Filipino film, TV and theater director and actress Laurice Guillen for their production value, stories and casting. The Korean Cultural Center (KCC) and the Korean Embassy in the Philippines in partnership with BGC Arts Center and Mind S-Cool hosted the webinar “The Role of K-Dramas in Sharing and Shaping Culture Beyond Borders” on Nov. 6 on YouTube. Guillen joined “Winter Sonata” producer Kim Hee-yeol, vice president and head of drama production of Korean drama company Pan Entertainment, and Lee Young-hoon, chief of the Broadcasting Industry Team of the Korean Creative Content Agency (KOCCA), in discussing Korean dramas, which have become a leading content of Hallyu, or Korean Wave, not only in Asia but in countries around the world. “I only started watching K-dramas early this year before the pandemic came to the Philippines and so far I have watched more than 50 Korean drama series excluding films,” said Guillen, adding that there are many outstanding features of a Korean drama. Laurice Guillen She added that “the most outstanding is really the stories which are excellently written. The writing integrates narrative, things and subject matter in a seamless way. The stories do not concentrate on one genre alone and it seems that they are unafraid to make innovations. That is something that is different from our situation in the Philippines where we usually produce the same kind of dramas that have rated very well previously in the ratings.” “Always the stories are character-based. There is always the moral of the story. In Korean dramas, it is not only the lead character who shines but also the support. They are strong and necessary and the audience loves them,” she said. The second most outstanding feature, she said, is the “production value in the staging of the drama as seen in the production design. Care is given to the production design, care is given to the selection of the locations, setting for the scenes and also the technical value.” Guillen also cited the outsourcing production system in Korean dramas. We are only just starting but the production of dramas is done by the big networks and productions. However this is something that I have just now learned about the style of production in Korea. The outsourcing production system has worked for the industry as it encourages growth,” she said. Korean dramas are one of Korea’s leading cultural exports. Guillen said she agrees that the growing popularity of Korean dramas in Asia and other countries “is due to common values that Asian can relate to such as love, filial piety and triumph of good over evil. These are values that Filipinos can relate to as an idea.” She said that as a director and after watching Korean dramas, she has appreciated “the detail by which cultural values, customs and traditions, in short the Korean way of life, is shared with the audience.” Korean dramas, she said, integrate many elements including weather, fashion, music, food, Korean standard of beauty, Korean products including food and cosmetics, issues and blending of Western culture into Korean lifestyle. “The drama seems to promote not only cultural patriotism and identity to its home audience in Korea but Korean consumer goods as well to its wider Asian market and beyond,” she said......»»
