Israel envoy assures financial aid to 4 Filipino victims
The Israeli government, through its envoy in the Philippines, Ambassador Ilan Fluss—assured the families of four Filipinos who earlier died in the ongoing war between Israel and the Palestinian Sunni-Islamic terror group Hamas—that they will be receiving enough financial aid from the Israeli government distinguishing them as victims of terrorism. “As long as they are documented and in Israel, then the Israeli government will recognize them as victims of terrorism. For that, they will be receiving financial assistance, their parents, spouses, their children, accordingly,” Fluss told members of the media during the forum “Coming Together: An Afternoon of Unity, Prayer, and Solidarity with Israel” in Makati City on Thursday, organized by the Israel Chamber of Commerce of the Philippines. “We have clear legislation in helping Israelis in this case, as well as Filipinos and other foreign nationals. This will come in financial assistance on a monthly basis, depending on if they need assistance in education, health care, or even a grant for housing, as clearly stated in Israeli law. The aid will be coursed through either the Philippine government or to the families of the victims,” he added. Photos of four Filipino caregivers who perished during the war were displayed during the forum, namely Ilongga OFW Grace Prodigo Cabrera, who chose to be taken away by Hamas to save the 80-year-old Israeli woman under her care; Angelyn Peralta Aguirre, a 33-year-old, who was killed along with her patient in Israel; Loreta Alacre who was shot to death by Hamas while she was on her way back to her employer, and Paul Vincent Castelvi, who was also killed during the onset of the war. Meanwhile, with the report that the two missing Filipinos are now in the hands of Hamas as hostages, Ambassador Fluss said they are leaving the responsibility to the Philippine government to provide updates. “There are formal channels of communication between the two governments. Our Ministry of Foreign Affairs headquartered in Jerusalem is constantly coordinating with the Philippine Embassy in Tel Aviv, while we are coordinating here with the DFA,” he said. The DFA on Thursday said they are verifying reports that the two missing Filipinos in Israel were taken hostage by Hamas with the Israeli Embassy in the Philippines. According to the report of the Israeli government and international multimedia news provider Reuters, two Filipinos who were previously tagged as missing were among the estimated 220 hostages held by Hamas. Fluss maintained that the Israeli government "is dedicated to dismantling and destroying all the infrastructure made by Hamas forces in Gaza, bringing back the abducted Israeli and foreign nationals held in Gaza," but emphasizing that "they are not planning to occupy Gaza." For the part of the Israel Chamber of Commerce of the Philippines, its president Yoray Ofek, stressed that they stand behind Israel and aired utmost support to the Israeli government. PBBM assures military, police of proper gov’t support
President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Friday said the government will continue to work hard to give proper support to the police, military, and other ranks so that they can properly fulfill their mandate. In a thanksgiving ceremony in Davao, Marcos said the families of these uniformed personnel should also receive every type of support the government offers them through programs like the Comprehensive Social Benefits Program (CSBP). "Rest assured that the government will continue to strive to provide the necessary support for our police, military, and other ranks to fulfill their mandate. Included in this effort is ensuring the well-being of your families through programs like CSBP," Marcos said. "The medical, financial, educational, employment, housing, and other social welfare assistance provided by CSBP are only appropriate for you, for the families left behind by our brave soldiers in the midst of battle," Marcos added. The President then directed all implementing bodies to ensure the prompt provision of benefits and aid to the recipients. Marcos also reminded the agencies that the goal is to ensure that all Filipinos benefit from government programs. "As we move forward with the New Philippines, all Filipinos will progress and be partners in this transformation," Marcos said. Marcos also expressed his gratitude to the members of the armed forces, police, and other uniformed personnel who have sacrificed their lives or been wounded while serving the country. "We can never repay the service they have dedicated to keeping our communities peaceful, safe, and orderly," Marcos said. "Their example is a testament to the innate talent, courage, and honor of Filipinos, and to our unwavering love for our country." Marcos also acknowledged the significant contribution of the heroes to the identity and history of the Philippines. He said that their sacrifices will never be forgotten. Established through Executive Order No. 110 in 2020, the CSBP offers various forms of support and aid, including unique financial help, scholarships, special welfare assistance, healthcare support, housing assistance, and employment aid. The Department of the Interior and Local Government, serving as the primary executor of the CSBP, has consistently prioritized swift and efficient delivery of assistance to eligible personnel and their beneficiaries. Sara assures poll teachers’safety
Vice President and Education Secretary Sara Duterte has assured the safety of teachers serving in the upcoming Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections. This after the Department of Education, the Commission on Elections, and the Public Attorney’s Office signed a memorandum of agreement Monday afternoon. “We hope that teachers who will serve in the elections will be protected from harassment, intimidation, and other forms of threats to their lives,” Duterte said. The agreement will provide a system to ensure teachers serving as members of the Electoral Board and other DepEd personnel involved in the electoral process will receive legal assistance. Anchored on the desire to fully implement the provisions of Republic Act 10756 or the Election Service Reform Act, the memorandum of agreement was signed by Duterte, Comelec chair George Erwin Garcia, and PAO chief Persida Acosta at the Comelec office in Palacio del Gobernador in Intramuros. Teachers tasked to serve during the elections expose themselves and their families to the dangers of being intimidated, harassed, or even killed, as violence often flares up between warring politicians. Despite these, teachers continue to serve in the elections out of their commitment, courage, and love of the country, Duterte said. “This is purely because of their love of country,” she said. The Vice President emphasized the important role of teachers in the successful conduct of the elections, calling them the frontline government representatives who will ensure the smooth flow of the election process. “We owe them our gratitude, assistance, protection, and legal support,” she said. Duterte also called on the Comelec to release the allowances of teachers serving in the elections on time. Duterte was grateful to the Comelec and PAO for the initiative that showed their concern for the safety and welfare of teachers. Phl Navy, Air Force & US Marine to kick off support activity on 6 July
The Philippine Marines Corps is set to hold a marine aviation support activity, scheduled beginning 6 July until 21 July, aimed at enhancing the capabilities of the country’s naval infantry force. Captain Jarald Rea, director of the Marine Corps Public Affairs Office, said the combined interoperability exercises and training, to be held across Luzon, will be joined by Marines troops, personnel from the Naval Air Wing of the Philippine Navy, and Philippine Air Force along with the staff from the United States Marine Corps Forces Pacific. The San Antonio local government in Zambales will host the two bilateral trainings including Helicopter Rope Suspension Training and Maritime Strike. The maritime strike involves the conduct of live fire maneuvers wherein the combined forces will have to sink a decommissioned PN vessel and this will take place approximately 10 to 12 nautical miles west of the Naval Station Leovigildo Gantioqi Beach on 13 July. “A semi-annual activity of the Philippine and US military, MASA 2023 hopes to further improve interoperability, allowing both forces to operate seamlessly and effectively in joint operations,” Rea said. During the training, Rea fisherfolk of the abovementioned municipalities will not be allowed to go fishing considering safety reasons. The Philippine Marine Corps and the United States Marine Corps, in coordination with the Provincial Government of Zambales and with assistance from the private sector, will have a joint civil-military program within coastal communities that will be affected by the exercises. This assures that fisherfolk in the affected areas will get sufficient assistance throughout the implementation of the exercises. This year’s MASA is focused on the aligned procedures, tactics, and communications among marines, navy, and air forces. It targets to enhance combined capabilities and readiness, leading to a more synchronized response to the evolving security challenges. The Philippine Marine Corps has been conducting amphibious, expeditionary, and special operations missions for the Armed Forces of the Philippines.
