Go calls for continuing campaign vs illegal drugs, criminality
Amid the prevalence of drug cases even involving some members of the Philippine National Police, Senator Christopher “Bong” Go has called on the government to adopt stricter and more robust measures to address the persistent challenges of illegal drugs and criminality in the country. In an ambush interview after his visit to Sta. Cruz, Manila on Wednesday, 24 May, Go acknowledged that eradicating illegal drugs and criminality requires a multifaceted approach, encompassing both law enforcement and social reform. Drawing inspiration from the successful campaigns during former president Rodrigo Duterte’s administration, Go expressed that similar strong-arm tactics and approaches are necessary to continue building a safer society. He likewise added that a renewed focus on combating drug issues will contribute to a safer and more secure country. Kailangan talagang takutin,” Go urged. During the Senate Committee on Public Order and Dangerous Drugs hearing on Tuesday, 23 May, Go asked the PNP leadership about the possibility of tapping former president Duterte as the government’s anti-drug czar, considering the latter’s campaign saw a notable decline in crime rates. Kung gagawin man siyang drug czar dapat may ngipin kasi kapag walang ngipin hindi katatakutan ‘yan,” Go asserted. Matatakot at matatakot talaga ‘yan.” The senator also stressed the importance of immediately addressing underlying issues that contribute to these problems. He has called for stronger coordination among various law enforcement agencies to ensure a holistic approach in combating these issues. In the end, Go said that he is convinced that President Marcos possesses the necessary determination to implement effective measures that will address the drug problem at its core, highlighting, “Alam ko naman na seryoso po ang ating administrasyon na sugpuin po ang iligal na droga. The post Go calls for continuing campaign vs illegal drugs, criminality appeared first on Daily Tribune......»»
Bong Go visits of Malasakit Center, aids patients and frontliners in Guimaras
Senator Bong Go, Chair of the Senate Committee on Health and Demography, personally visited Jordan, Guimaras on Friday, 19 May, where he checked the operations of a Malasakit Center in the town. To help ensure quality healthcare services are provided to the residents, Go conducted a monitoring visit to the Malasakit Center at Dr. Catalino Gallego Nava Provincial Hospital. In his speech, Go highlighted that there are now 157 Malasakit Centers nationwide that serve as one-stop shops for medical assistance programs, streamlining the process of availing such programs. “Ako po ang Chairman of Committee on Health sa Senado at ako rin ang Chairman on Sports. Kaya Mr. Malasakit, mayroon na tayong 157 na Malasakit Centers sa buong Pilipinas, kasama na po ang Guimaras, na may Malasakit Center,” said Go. First established in Cebu in 2018, the Malasakit Center is a brainchild of Go which houses agencies such as the Department of Social Welfare and Development, Department of Health, Philippine Health Insurance Corporation, and Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office to assist particularly poor and indigent patients with their hospital bills. Go is the principal author and sponsor of the Malasakit Centers Act of 2019. During the visit, Go and his team also provided assistance, such as grocery packs, masks, vitamins, and snacks to 217 patients and 512 front liners, including security guards, utilities, and other hospital staff. They also gave away bicycles, shoes, mobile phones, and watches to select beneficiaries. The senator then mentioned that there will also be Super Health Centers in the province, including in Jordan, Nueva Valencia, and Buenavista — the last one’s groundbreaking was personally witnessed by Go later that day. Through the collective efforts of fellow lawmakers, sufficient funds had been allocated for 307 Super Health Centers in 2022 and 322 in 2023. DOH, the lead implementing agency, identifies the strategic areas where they will be constructed. Earlier that day, Go, who also chairs the Senate Committee on Sports, attended a volleyball tournament as part of the Manggahan Festival of the province. The senator emphasized the importance of sports in promoting a healthy lifestyle, fostering discipline, and honing teamwork. He encouraged the aspiring athletes to pursue their dreams and assured them of his unwavering support. Go was joined by Governor Joaquin Carlos “JC” Rahman Nava, Vice Governor John Edward Gando, Uswag Ilonggo Partylist Congressman Jojo Ang, and Guimaras Lone District Congresswoman Lucille Nava, among others, during his visit. Later that day, Go also visited Buenavista town in Guimaras where he led the groundbreaking of the town’s Super Health Center, spearheaded a relief operation for indigents, and visited local infrastructure initiatives he earlier supported such as the Buenavista Wharf and a seawall in the town. Bong Go joins Panaad Festival in Bacolod City
Sen. Bong Go attended the Panaad Festival in Bacolod City in Negros Occidental on Monday, 17 April, where he vowed to continue pushing for health-related initiatives that will improve the lives of Filipinos and bring government services closer to those in need. “Isa pong malaking karangalan at batiin po ang mga taga-Bacolod ng Happy Panaad Festival,” said Go in his speech. Go emphasized that he is not the kind of politician who makes lofty promises. Instead, he pledged to offer his services to the best of his abilities as both a senator and a proud Filipino. Go also recognized the attendance of both national and local officials at the event. Among those present were Senator Francis Tolentino, Department of Tourism Secretary Christina Garcia-Frasco, and representatives from other national agencies. He also recognized Negros Occidental Governor Bong Lacson and the rest of the provincial government, 1st District Representative Gerardo Valmayor, Jr., 2nd District Representative Alfredo Maranon III, 3rd District Representative Francisco Benitez, 4th District Representative Juliet Marie Ferrer, 5th District Representative Emilio Bernardino Yulo, 6th District Representative Mercedes Alvarez, Abang Lingkod Partylist Representative Stephen Paduano, board members and mayors in the province, among others, for their unwavering efforts to improve public service delivery in the province. The Panaad Festival is one of the most celebrated festivals in the country, held annually in the province of Negros Occidental. It is a week-long celebration that showcases the rich culture, traditions, and products of the province. But more than just enjoying the festivities, Go was in Negros Occidental for an equally significant purpose, which is to visit the Malasakit Center at the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital (CLMMRH) and to extend his help to the indigent residents in the city. In his speech, Go shared that the Malasakit Center is a one-stop-shop for medical assistance, which he initiated, to improve access of particularly poor and indigent patients to medical services. Malasakit Centers bring together representatives from the Department of Social Welfare and Development, Department of Health, Philippine Health Insurance Corporation, and Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office. These centers aim to support impoverished patients in reducing their hospital costs to the least possible amount. Prior to visiting Bacolod City that day, Go came from Capiz province where he conducted a Malasakit Center monitoring visit in Roxas Memorial Provincial Hospital (RMPH) in Roxas City where he also aided patients and hospital personnel. He also joined the groundbreaking of Super Health Centers in Panitan and Panay towns where he also provided aid to indigent residents. Bong Go supports DILG’s investigation of officials linked to drug haul
Senator Bong Go has expressed his support for the Department of the Interior and Local Government’s plan to investigate Philippine National Police officials reportedly linked to a billion-peso drug haul. Go emphasized the importance of truth and accountability in addressing the issue of illegal drugs, which has been a major concern in the country for years. “Alam n’yo, the truth must come out. Katotohanan lagi. In fairness sa lahat ng pulis, ‘yung totoo po (dapat malaman),” said Go. He also reiterated that the fight against illegal drugs should continue, citing, “Ayaw nating masayang ang inumpisahan ni dating pangulong (Rodrigo) Duterte na labanan po ang ilegal na droga. On Tuesday, the PNP welcomed the DILG’s decision to probe the arrest of former police officer Rodolfo Mayo who was implicated in the PhP6.7-billion drug haul in October last year and has since been terminated from his position. The DILG expressed doubts about Mayo acting alone, indicating that there may have been other officers involved. Meanwhile, in terms of what should be done with the police officials who are found to be involved in illegal drug activities, Go said that they should be held accountable for their actions. The senator also stressed the importance of separating the few bad apples from the many honest and dedicated police officers who are working hard to keep the community safe. Earlier, Go filed Senate Bill No. 422 which, if passed into law, will entitle any officer or enlisted personnel of the AFP and Philippine National Police, who is facing before the prosecutor's office, court, or any competent body, any charge arising from an incident related to the performance of official duty to free legal assistance. The senator stated that in the past, some police officers were wrongfully accused, prompting former president Duterte and himself to offer legal aid to those officers.
