Over 2.7K alleged human trafficking victims rescued in Las Piñas POGO raid
The Philippine National Police on Tuesday said it rescued 2,714 workers of different nationalities, allegedly victims of human trafficking by the illegal Philippine offshore gaming operator in Las Piñas City. In its report, the National Capital Region Police Office said of the total rescued individuals, 1,528 were Filipinos, 600 Chinese, 183 Vietnamese, 137 Indonesians, 134 Malaysians, 81 Thais, and 21 Taiwanese, while the rest are foreign nationals from Nigeria, Singapore, Myanmar, Yemen, Pakistan, South Africa, India, Somalia, Sudan, Cameroon, and Iran. The alleged victims were rescued during the law enforcement operations of the NCRPO and PNP’s Anti Cybercrime Group at a POGO establishment located at 501 Alabang-Zapote Road, Barangay Almanza Uno, Las Piñas City. The owners and maintainers of the POGO hub registered as “Xinchuang Network Technology Inc.” formerly known as "Hong Tai", were identified through their aliases Quiha Lu, Liangfei Chen, Jimmy Lin, and Abbey Ng. They face criminal charges for violating the Expanded Anti-Trafficking in Persons Act of 2012. Senator Win Gatchalian described the latest police raid in a POGO hub in Las Pinas as “another testament that POGOs’ involvement in criminal activities has become rampant, and necessitates their immediate expulsion from the country.” “Because we have allowed POGOs to maintain operations in the country, the Philippines has become a hotbed of human trafficking,” he told the reporters on Tuesday. Gatchalian lamented that POGO hubs, in effect, have been given a free license to engage in criminal activities. He also slammed the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation for “utter incompetence in supervising” the operations of POGOs. “Undoubtedly, the POGO industry poses a huge threat to the country’s peace and order situation, endangering both local and foreign nationals,” Gatchalian said. “Hindi na dapat madagdagan pa ang mga biktima ng POGO sa bansa. Paalisin na ang mga POGO sa lalong madaling panahon!” he added. The post Over 2.7K alleged human trafficking victims rescued in Las Piñas POGO raid appeared first on Daily Tribune......»»
