Girl ‘raped, pimped’ by FB friend
A man was arrested at the crack of dawn Friday in North Caloocan for allegedly raping and pimping a 16-year-old woman. According to the victim’s mother, her child left their house only to fall victim to the man who lived in the house where she stayed. Police learned that after sexually abusing the minor repeatedly, the man then sold her to other men for sex. “She was crying that she was not only raped by the man in that house, but that she was also peddled to other men. He was the one taking the payment for the sex,” the mother averred. The mother said her daughter was threatened by the man that she’d be planted with illegal drugs and jailed by a police officer friend of the suspect. When arrested, the 22-year-old suspect denied the accusations, saying he and the girl got to know each other through Facebook. He’ll be charged with violating the Anti-Trafficking in Persons Act of 2003. The PNP North Caloocan Women and Children Protection urged parents to be observant and to be on guard with the people their children meet via social media platforms. “Those gadgets are serving as avenues for exploitation of children,” P/Cpl. Katrina Paran said in warning parents to be watchful of their children’s activities. The post Girl ‘raped, pimped’ by FB friend appeared first on Daily Tribune......»»

GCash intensifies support on drive vs online scammers
GCash, the country’s leading mobile wallet, has stepped up its support to the government's campaign against online scammers as it became an instrument that led to the arrest of a 'bogus' online seller recently and blocking over 900,000 accounts believed involved in fraud in partnership with the National Bureau of Investigation and Philippine National Police. The mobile wallet preferred by most consumers has also inked a memorandum of agreement with the Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center of the Department of Information and Communications Technology and has helped arrest top online scammers The suspects and the 'fishy' accounts are believed behind anomalous transactions consummated by the suspects with their victims on social media and digital storefronts. With its collaboration with the Cyber Response Unit and the Philippine National Police Anti-Cybercrime Group, GCash again aided top law enforcement authorities in tracking down and arresting a fake FB online seller who stole the victim’s money after failing to deliver the purchased item. The complainant said she tried to buy an iPhone from the suspect identified as Rachelle Luzon from Caloocan City. The suspect sent her identification card including her parent’s IDs to gain the victim's trust. Convinced that the suspect was a legitimate online seller, the victim sent P4,500 as an initial payment for the iPhone which never arrived. The victim reported the incident to the authorities and informed the investigators that, to entrap the suspect, she used the Facebook account of her friend to purchase an iPhone from the suspect who agreed to a meet-up. The suspect was caught in the entrapment operation by the Cyber Response Unit and the PNP-ACG, with marked boodle money amounting to P5,000 in Novaliches, Quezon City. Luzon is facing charges for violating Article 315 or (swindling/estafa) of the Revised Penal Code in relation to the Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012 Sec. 6 of R.A. 10175. GCash reminds Filipinos be more vigilant and cautions as online scams continue to increase and to always check the payment terms of the seller and when possible, transact with those that give the option to pay after the product or service is rendered. For added security and safety, GCash tell customers to always ask the seller for their contact details and demand for an official or acknowledgment receipt for proof of transaction. For help and assistance, contact the PNP-ACG via their hotlines at (02) 8414-1560, 0998-598-8116, or via email at acg@pnp.gov.ph. What is the weight of a monument?
Like the Bantayog ng mga Bayani memorial in Quezon City, dedicated to a wide segment of Martial Law martyrs from community leaders such as Dulag to fighters of the New People’s Army in resisting the Marcos dictatorship, or the 1933 Bonifacio Monument in Caloocan honoring revolutionary heroes of the Katipunan who fought for independence from Spanish rule, the Anti-Chico Dam Struggle monument represents a step foward in committing our histories of resistance to public memory in more permanent form. To demolish it would be a grave disrespect of cultural and social history at the very least. The post What is the weight of a monument? appeared first on Bulatlat......»»
