‘Hercules’ actor Kevin Sorbo thinks Timothée Chalamet is killing ‘real masculinity’
American actor and producer Kevin Sorbo, who starred as the Greek demigod Hercules in the 1990s show Hercules: The Legendary Journeys, is angry about allegedly being “canceled” by Hollywood for his conservative views and Christian beliefs. In a controversial essay titled “Make Hollywood Manly Again” published on Fox News, the actor griped about how Hollywood and the media are supposedly putting traditional male roles in a negative light. “Fathers, in particular, have become the butt of every woke Hollywood jab, the bumbling, useless idiots who contribute nothing to their families or communities, but sacrifice themselves as objects of ridicule,” Sorbo wrote. Lamenting the rise of female-centric “girl boss” films in recent years, Sorbo complained that men are now portrayed as the “impotent sitcom father” and the “brutish he-man who only abuses his strength and makes a mockery of masculinity.” [caption id="attachment_189784" align="aligncenter" width="318"] Timothée Chalamet[/caption] The right-wing actor reserved particular venom for actors Timothée Chalamet and Billy Porter for their androgynous fashion sense. “Society today seriously misunderstands masculinity. On the one hand, we love to normalize androgynous, Billy Porter-type men who sport skirts and poofy dresses,” Sorbo wrote. As for Chalamet: “Let’s just say your grandfather wouldn’t have been caught dead dressed like Chalamet.” Chalamet has been acclaimed for redefining modern men’s fashion and style. His eclectic and atypical roles in films have been reflected in his unique and bold personal style on the red carpet. [caption id="attachment_189785" align="aligncenter" width="316"] Billy Porter[/caption] The Call Me By Your Name superstar was a head-turner at the premiere of his 2018 film Beautiful Boy with a statement tuxedo by Alexander McQueen in a graphic floral motif that gave a fresher and more youthful look to the standard male formal get-up. In 2022, the Oscar-nominated actor once again dominated fashion headlines when he wore a sleeveless and backless Haider Ackermann custom red halter-neck top at his red-carpet appearance for the romantic horror film Bones and All. Porter, a Tony, Grammy and Emmy award-winning actor, is likewise regarded as a fashion icon for flaunting genderless clothing in his public appearances. Exhibit A was his appearance at the 91st Academy Awards, where he wore a velvet tuxedo jacket paired with a ball gown. OTS dismisses another SSO at NAIA
The Office for Transportation Security confirmed on Monday that the agency has dismissed another Security Screening Officer assigned to Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 2, after he was caught on close circuit television taking things from the luggage of a departing passenger while conducting a final security baggage inspection on 13 September. Last Saturday, OTS Administrator Undersecretary Ma.O. Aplasca personally served the dismissal order against SSO Billy Boy Garcia at NAIA Terminal 2 after a thorough investigation. We have so much problem already here. What do you want to show? Effective today, you are dismissed from the service and remove that ID of yours. You don’t deserve to wear that uniform,” Aplasca said. Garcia was then immediately served with the dismissal order and was right there and then stripped of his access pass, office ID and uniform. The OTS investigators will further pursue this case, and they are requesting the said passenger to come forward to shed light on the incident. Meanwhile, during the interview conducted by one of the members of Airport Press Club, the OTS chief said, “As of today, based on my observation, I think its not too late yet. We still have the core of our people who could make this internal cleansing a success.” Aplasca did not categorically state that the incidents of theft at the NAIA will be totally stopped and instead said he expects what he called the new breed of OTS personnel to snitch on their erring colleagues. “I can confidently say that the chances of them being caught are high because we have new personnel. Mga bagong breed na di nila ito-tolerate,” Aplasca also stated in the same interview. The OTS will not stop and will continue to conduct an intensified internal cleansing program to eliminate scalawags in their agency. Concert troublemakers in Laoag to be charged — PNP
ILOCOS NORTE — The Philippine National Police addressed a viral video showing a group of men fighting after the Panagyaman Concert in Laoag City, Ilocos Norte on Saturday night, 23 September, at 10:00 p.m., during a press conference on Sunday. Unfortunately, the video is no longer available from the original source. Laoag City PNP chief, Police Lt. Col. Joseph Baltazar identified those involved in the viral fist fight as Julio Tristan Agustin Garma, 24, and Hugh Grant Agustin Garma, 23, against Keith Donves Vicente Albayalde, 19; Billy Juan Tating, 20; and two John Does. According to the police report, Hugh and his girlfriend were walking when the group of Billy, who was walking behind them, allegedly pushed Hugh and his girlfriend while shouting “BBM” and then walked past them as if nothing happened. Hugh reacted when suddenly "someone" from the group of Billy allegedly punched Hugh that subsequently started the riot. Nonetheless, regardless if both parties have already settled, the PNP will still file an alarm and scandal charge or violation of Article 155 of the Revised Penal Code against those involved in the incident. The Laoag police chief also disclosed that one of those involved is currently under probation. He said the PNP will request for the revocation of probation. Meanwhile, also in the same press conference, the police chief further disclosed that an order of revocation by the Firearms and Explosives Office in Camp Crame was issued against two individuals in the city. The individuals were identified as Albino Pedro, a former city government employee, and Ferdinand Macugay. According to Baltazar, Pedro is currently facing a criminal charge which is one of the grounds of the revocation. Five of his firearms are now in the safekeeping of the Laoag City Police Station. In the case of Macugay, his License to Own and Possess Firearm (LTOPF) will expire on 22 October 2023. The subject firearm is temporarily held under custody for safekeeping. Coleen Garcia a hands-on mom to Amari: ‘I make sure ando’n ako, tutok ako’
When Coleen Garcia and Billy Crawford’s unico hijo Amari turned three years old last 10 September, they had a simple celebration at home with only a few guests. But the celebrity couple made sure they showered the birthday boy with his favorite food items and flowers. That day, Garcia took to Instagram to dedicate a post to her son. “Amari, I thank God every day for blessing us with you,” she wrote in the caption. “You will always be our sunshine and source of joy. Thank you for inspiring us to see the beauty in the world, and for making our days so colorful and exciting. Even when things get hard and overwhelming, you will always be our reason to keep showing up as the best versions of ourselves. You inspired us to be better every day. I’m so proud, happy, and honored to be your Mommy. I love you so much.” A day before, the actress talked to DAILY TRIBUNE on being a hands-on mom, especially now that she’s preparing her toddler for school. “I’m honestly just following my instincts,” she told us at an event presented by the milk brand Enfagrow A+ Four NuraPro called “Getting Kids School-Ready, Future Ready!” “I know Amari so well,” she said of her son. “We’re practically attached. I spend and invest so, so much time and effort into raising him, to making sure that ando’n ako, tutok ako (that I’m there, I’m focused). Una, kailangan i-introduce ko muna ’yung (First, it is necessary that I introduce the) concept of having a teacher before I let him go to school. Baka ma-shock siya bigla (He might be shocked).” Garcia said she’s hands-on even in packing Amari’s school baon, just like how she’s been meticulously preparing his food since introducing solids at age six months old. She makes it a point to feed her son enough amounts of protein, carbs and fats. Picky eater She noted, though, that the growing boy is becoming a picky eater probably because “nagde-develop na siya ng sariling (he has developed his own) taste” in food. “So ang ginagawa ko, parang tinatanong ko kung ano ang favorites niya (what I do is I ask him what his favorites are). And I see why, like, is it because of the texture? Or is it because of the taste? “Titignan mo talaga kung bakit. (You will really see why). Then I give him similar foods. Ang pinaka-favorite niya talaga is Chicken Nilaga ever since. Mahilig siya sa bland food. Hindi siya masyadong mahilig sa salty or ’yung matoyo or malasa. Sinanay ko kasi siya since six months old (His most favorite is Chicken Nilaga ever since. He likes bland food. He is not very fond of salty or dry or tasty. I trained him since he was six months old).” As for self-care, Garcia pointed out, “I try to adjust my needs. I try to work out, pero kung pagod ako, hindi ko pipilitin (if I’m tired, I won’t push it). Rest is definitely key. Dapat sapat ang nakukuhang rest (The rest you should be getting should be enough). By rest, I don’t mean just sleep. ’Yung totoong rest, like you feel refreshed. ’Yung wala kang iisipin muna (The real rest, like you feel refreshed. That you don’t think about anything first), even for just an hour or even for just a while. “You do what you want to do, whether it’s watching a video or watching something, lumabas ka lang ng bahay, magpasyal ka lang sa labas, do whatever na gusto mong gawin (just get out of the house, just go outside, do whatever you want to do) at that moment. That’s what I consider rest also. Rest is hindi lang basta tulog, e. ’Yung mare-rest mo rin ang mind mo, mae-empty mo rin ang mind mo. Ide-detox mo ang brain mo (Rest is not just sleep. It should rest your mind and detox your brain).” The post Coleen Garcia a hands-on mom to Amari: ‘I make sure ando’n ako, tutok ako’ appeared first on Daily Tribune......»»

SB19: ‘Yan ang Coach Stell namin!’
Following multiple awards, sold-out concerts and the recently concluded PAGTATAG world tour, Stell Ajero of SB19 continues to be “booked and busy.” Ajero, the main vocalist and lead dancer of the global P-pop group SB19, said his co-members are all-out in supporting his solo gig as The Voice Generations coach despite their group activities. In an interview with Boy Abunda during “Fast Talk with Boy Abunda” on 12 September, Abunda asked the singer-songwriter about SB19’s reaction when he was offered to be one of the coaches of The Voice Generations. “Sabi nila sa’kin, ‘Stell, kapag hindi mo pa tinanggap ang project na ‘yan, hindi namin alam kung anong gagawin sa’yo (They said, “Stell, if you won’t accept this project, we don’t know what to do with you),” Ajero said. Before the GMA offer, he explained, he had been very selective in accepting solo projects because he wanted to prioritize group projects with SB19. However, the 28-year-old vocalist told Abunda that all he needed was the push and encouragement from SB19 and his loved ones. “With the help of my group, my team, my family, sila ‘yung nagpakita at nagparamdam sa akin na [I] really deserved that spot. ‘Kunin mo na. Binigay nila ‘yan sa’yo kasi alam nilang kaya mo at dapat mong tanggapin nang buong puso (With the help of my group, my team, my family, they made me feel I really deserved that spot. The project was offered to me since they knew I could do it, so I should accept it wholeheartedly).” In a separate video, the four other members of SB19 — Justin, Pablo, Ken and Josh — were profuse in their praise for Ajero, attesting to his passion for excellence and fun but committed attitude toward work, which they said would be of immense benefit to the artists he’d be handling on The Voice Generations. “Yan ang Coach Stell namin! (That’s our Coach Stell!),” said SB19’s leader Pablo. Despite coaching for The Voice Generations and the possibility of being offered more solo activities, Ajero vowed that SB19 will always be his main priority. Asked about his mentorship style, Ajero said he wants to keep it simple and chill while also remembering his roots when he was starting out. “I give them time to adjust at isapuso muna nila kung ano ‘yung sinabi ko… Ayoko po kasi nila maramdaman ‘yung pressure from me as their coach (I give my artists time to adjust and take what I said to heart. I don’t want them to feel pressured as their coach),” he said, explaining that he doesn’t want to stress his talents to be perfect from the get-go. Viewers may tune in every Sunday to watch Ajero’s entertaining and substantive coaching in The Voice Generations, along with award-winning singer and dancer Billy Crawford, Parokya ni Edgar frontman Chito Miranda and Asia’s Limitless Star Julie Anne San Jose as his fellow coaches. Taylor Swift, Shakira shine at MTV Video Music Awards
Taylor Swift cleaned up at Tuesday's MTV Video Music Awards and won the evening's top trophy, as Shakira accepted the night's prestigious Video Vanguard honor with a hip-shaking, career-spanning performance. Swift continued her global reign by scooping awards including Best Song, Best Pop and Best Direction, as well as the top competitive award for Video of the Year, which she won for her hit "Anti-Hero." Turn-of-the-millennium teen heartthrobs NSYNC reunited onstage for the first time in a decade to present her with the Best Pop award, leaving Swift, who is poised to post the first billion-dollar tour, fanning her cheeks. "This is unbelievable," Swift said as she accepted the night's top prize, which she also took home in 2022. "I just want to say that the fact that this is a fan-voted award means so much to me." But she didn't perform on the night known far more for its spectacle than its awards, instead sipping her drink as artists including Olivia Rodrigo, Anitta and Doja Cat took the stage. The made-for-broadcast show, held this year in Newark's Prudential Center, frequently panned to Swift who was seated near the main stage next to Ice Spice, the viral Bronx rapper who has collaborated with the pop phenom and who won the evening's prize for Best New Artist. A camera operator was reportedly tasked with filming Swift for the show's entire duration. The nearly four-hour show that included some 20 performances ended without handing out awards in a number of categories, however, including for Artist of the Year, which for the first time was an all-women slate including Swift, Shakira and Beyonce. Lil Wayne opened the show in a nod to this year's 50th anniversary of hip hop, and Sean Combs -- known by his stage names Puff Daddy, Puffy, P. Diddy and Diddy -- delivered a career-spanning performance as he accepted the night's Global Icon lifetime achievement award. "This is so surreal," said the 53-year-old from Harlem. "I started out as a paper boy." (Photo by Timothy A. CLARY / AFP)[/caption] And it was Shakira who scored the night's most prestigious honor for lifetime achievement, the Video Vanguard award that celebrates music video innovations. The Colombian performer, 46, stole the show as she performed her signature hip swings and pops, singing a bilingual medley including "She Wolf," "Te Felicito," "Objection (Tango)," "Whenever, Wherever" and "Hips Don't Lie." Wearing a glittering, nude ensemble, the artist finished her set by crowd-surfing to a platform that then elevated her high above a screaming crowd of fans and peers. "Thank you MTV. Thank you for being such a big part of my career since I was only 18 years old," she said. Afrobeats and Bongos Rapper Nicki Minaj hosted the event for the second consecutive year, also debuting live her newest single, "Last Time I Saw You," which is slated for release on her album "Pink Friday 2" in November. She won the night's award for Best Hip Hop, for "Super Freaky Girl." Fresh and Slick Rick, LL Cool J, DMC of Run-DMC, and Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five. Earlier Doja Cat ignited the crowd as she performed a medley of "Attention," "Paint The Town Red" and "Demons," donning a sexy skirtsuit situation she slowly loosened as she danced, meanwhile unfurling a long blonde mane. Best R&B went to SZA, who did not attend, while South Korea's Stray Kids won the award for Best K-pop and later performed. Nigeria's Rema won the prize for Best Afrobeats, a new category, for his remixed single "Calm Down" featuring Selena Gomez. The song surpassed a billion streams on Spotify over the weekend. "This means so much seeing Afrobeats grow this big," Rema said while accepting the trophy. Brazil's Anitta dropped a booty-shaking dance party of a show with hits including "Funk Rave," which earned the evening's prize for Best Latin. Colombian Karol G was also among the evening's top performers, and she scored a prize with Shakira for Best Collaboration. Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion debuted their live performance of "Bongos," their latest collaboration that follows the resounding success of "WAP." Cardi entered the stage from the ceiling on a disco ball, her hair in loose waves a la Donna Summer. Megan joined her from another stage, and after their respective verses the pair led the audience through a high-energy, twerkified dance breakdown. Pop-punk band Fallout Boy rounded out the millennial nostalgia tour that began the night with NSYNC. The emo rockers performed their updated version of Billy Joel's "We Didn't Start The Fire," hitting major moments of the past three decades in a revamp that includes the line: "YouTube killed MTV." Baby Ortiz: Civic leader with a heart of gold
I am taking a break for now and turning over in this issue the privilege of sharing one’s thoughts and experiences to raconteur Jorge Hizon, who takes pleasure in paying tribute to friends and relatives who are celebrating their birthdays. This one’s Jorge’s take on one of the birthday celebrations of civic worker Leonida “Baby” Bayani Ortiz, a most generous and caring lady in our civil society. [caption id="attachment_175595" align="aligncenter" width="659"] GYN GYN Ponce Quiazon[/caption] Here goes Jorge’s remarkable prose: Leonida Bayani Ortiz’s post-birthday party at Borro Restaurant in Quezon City was splendid as it blended culinary delights, entertainment and heartfelt connections. The event showcased a remarkable fusion of Filipino, Mexican and Italian cuisines, leaving guests with a feast for their taste buds. From appetizers to main course, the gastronomic journey was the highlight, enhanced by the presence of a lechon, thanks to Carmen Lim. A diverse selection of desserts, including an array of six birthday cakes, rice cakes, ensaymadas and zesty oranges, gave the guests reason to smile to their hearts’ content. The entertainment lineup added a dynamic dimension to the celebration. Darius Razon, renowned as the jukebox king of the ‘70s, serenaded the audience with his timeless melodies. The queen of comedy, Chuck T. Gueco, hailing from Angeles, Pampanga, brought the house down with her uproarious jokes and charismatic dance moves. Her spontaneous and energetic performance, coupled with Razon’s melodic tunes, created an ambiance of merriment, fun and infectious laughter. [caption id="attachment_175590" align="aligncenter" width="525"] BILLY Tan and Peter Sy.[/caption] Not to be outdone, Ayna Ong and Gyn-gyn Ponce-Quiazon captivated the audience with their distinct vocal talents. They transitioned seamlessly from mellower songs to infectious disco beats which got everyone to stand and dance. This music, ranging from soulful melodies to groovy rhythms, brought an untamable energy to the celebration, encouraging a lively atmosphere of fun and merriment. Undoubtedly, the pinnacle of the evening was the simultaneous blowing of six birthday cakes, made even more special by Razon’s heartfelt rendition of the birthday song. The collective spirit was of jubilant celebration as Baby reveled in the love and warmth shared by her handpicked circle of friends. [gallery size="full" columns="2" ids="175589,175592"] Furthermore, Baby’s thoughtfulness extended to departing guests, who were gifted with cans of chocolates courtesy of Teacher Nelia Sarcol. This gesture was a reflection of gratitude and a lasting memory to cherish. Baby’s birthday celebration was an embodiment of the beauty of authentic friendship, delectable food, captivating entertainment and a joyful atmosphere. Through this harmonious convergence of elements, the event exuded a sense of togetherness, leaving a lasting impression of a truly memorable and heartfelt occasion.
