Hugh Jackman and wife separating: statement
"Wolverine" star Hugh Jackman and his wife of 27 years are to separate, a statement carried by US media said Friday. The Australian actor, 54, met fellow performer Deborra-Lee Jackman on the set of an Australian TV series in 1995, and the pair wed a year later. "We have been blessed to share almost (three) decades together as husband and wife in a wonderful, loving marriage," a joint statement first reported by People magazine said. "Our journey now is shifting and we have decided to separate to pursue our individual growth. "Our family has been and always will be our highest priority. We undertake this next chapter with gratitude, love, and kindness." The couple have two children together. Jackman, a Golden Globe winner for his role in "Les Miserables," has juggled his image as a muscle-bound superhero, with ventures into music and dancing during a varied career. "We greatly appreciate your understanding in respecting our privacy as our family navigates this transition in all of our lives," the statement continues, adding that no further information will be released. In a social media post to mark the couple's silver wedding, Jackman described their marriage as "natural as breathing." "From nearly the moment we met... I knew our destiny was to be together. In our 25 years - our love has only grown deeper." "I’m forever grateful to share our love, our life - and, our family together. We’ve only just begun. Deb, I love you with all my heart!" Jackman's rippling muscles and cut-glass features have earned him an army of admirers, and in 2008 he was named People magazine's "Sexiest Man Alive". hg/jh © Agence France-Presse The post Hugh Jackman and wife separating: statement appeared first on Daily Tribune......»»
Kuwait bans ‘Barbie’ film over ‘public ethics’ concerns
Kuwait has barred hit film "Barbie" from cinemas over concerns about "public ethics", officials have said, also confirming a separate ban on a horror movie featuring a transgender actor. "Barbie" and "Talk to Me" both "promulgate ideas and beliefs that are alien to the Kuwaiti society and public order", Lafy Al-Subei'e, head of Kuwait's cinema censorship committee, told the official KUNA news agency. While deciding on any foreign movie, the committee usually orders "censoring of the scenes that run counter to public ethics", Subei'e was quoted as saying late on Wednesday. "But (if) a film carries alien concepts, message or unacceptable behavior, the committee decides to bar the stuff in question as a whole," he said. Gulf Arab states including Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia -- all of which outlaw homosexuality -- routinely censor films that contain LGBTQ references. Most recently, they banned the latest Spider-Man animation in June, reportedly over a scene that includes a transgender pride flag. However, "Barbie", which has taken more than $1 billion worldwide, is being shown in Saudi Arabia, the UAE and Bahrain. In Lebanon, Culture Minister Mohammad Mortada said on Wednesday he had asked authorities to ban "Barbie" for purportedly "promoting homosexuality", though the film does not contain any overt references to same-sex relationships or queer themes. "Talk to Me", which is shown in Emirati and Saudi theatres, features Australian transgender actor Zoe Terakes but no explicit LGBTQ references. "Our film doesn't have queer themes," Terakes said in a statement posted on social media on Sunday, after the ban was first reported. "I am a trans actor who happened to get the role. I'm not a theme. I'm a person," added Terakes who identifies as non-binary. The post Kuwait bans ‘Barbie’ film over ‘public ethics’ concerns appeared first on Daily Tribune......»»
US, Microsoft warn cyber actor attacking ‘critical’ infrastructure
The United States, its Western allies and Microsoft said Wednesday that a state-sponsored Chinese cyber actor had infiltrated critical US infrastructure networks, and warned similar activities could be occurring globally. "The United States and international cybersecurity authorities are issuing this joint Cybersecurity Advisory (CSA) to highlight a recently discovered cluster of activity of interest associated with a People's Republic of China (PRC) state-sponsored cyber actor, also known as Volt Typhoon," said a statement released by US, Australian, Canadian, New Zealand and UK authorities. In a separate statement, Microsoft said Volt Typhoon had been active since mid-2021 and had targeted critical infrastructure in Guam, a crucial US military outpost in the Pacific Ocean. "Microsoft assesses with moderate confidence that this Volt Typhoon campaign is pursuing development of capabilities that could disrupt critical communications infrastructure between the United States and Asia region during future crises," the statement said. "In this campaign, the affected organizations span the communications, manufacturing, utility, transportation, construction, maritime, government, information technology, and education sectors. "Observed behavior suggests that the threat actor intends to perform espionage and maintain access without being detected for as long as possible." The US and Western security agencies warned in their advisory that the activities involved "living off the land" tactics, which takes advantage of built-in network tools to blend in with normal Windows systems. It warned that the hacking could then incorporate legitimate system administration commands that appear "benign". Microsoft said Volt Typhoon tried to blend into normal network activity by routing traffic through compromised small office and home office network equipment, including routers, firewalls and VPN hardware. "They have also been observed using custom versions of open-source tools," Microsoft said. The director of the US Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency, Jen Easterly, also released a warning related to Volt Typhoon. "For years, China has conducted operations worldwide to steal intellectual property and sensitive data from critical infrastructure organizations around the globe," Easterly said. "Today's advisory, put out in conjunction with our US and international partners, reflects how China is using highly sophisticated means to target our nation's critical infrastructure. "This joint advisory will give network defenders more insights into how to detect and mitigate this malicious activity." China offered no immediate response to the allegations. But it routinely denies carrying out state-sponsored cyber attacks. China in turn regularly accuses the United States of cyber espionage. ‘Dame Edna Everage’ comedian Barry Humphries dies
Australian comedian Barry Humphries died on Saturday in a Sydney hospital, prompting a tribute from the prime minister who described him as "both gifted and a gift". Humphries, best known for his parody of a suburban housewife, the character Dame Edna Everage, "passed away peacefully" surrounded by family, said a statement by his publicist to Australian media. "He was completely himself until the very end, never losing his brilliant mind, his unique wit and generosity of spirit," it said. "With over seventy years on the stage, he was an entertainer to his core, touring up until the last year of his life and planning more shows that will sadly never be." He leaves his wife, Lizzie, four children, and 10 grandchildren, it said. "The characters he created, which brought laughter to millions, will live on," the statement said. The 89-year-old Humphries died in Sydney's St Vincent's Hospital after being treated for various ailments, Australian media said. The hospital declined to comment. Prime Minister Anthony Albanese paid homage to the actor, who created unforgettable characters, including Everage and the elderly suburban man Sandy Stone. "Barry Humphries entertained us through a galaxy of personas, from Dame Edna to Sandy Stone," the prime minister said on social media. "But the brightest star in that galaxy was always Barry. A great wit, satirist, writer, and an absolute one-of-kind, he was both gifted and a gift. May he rest in peace."
