DSWD assists bereaved family of Criminology student who died of hazing
The Department of Social Welfare and Development through its Field Office CALABARZON, expressed condolences and provided cash aid to the grieving family of Ahldryn Bravante, a criminology student who lost his life after undergoing fraternity-related hazing on Monday evening, 16 October. The DSWD CALABARZON extended P10,000 worth of cash assistance to the bereaved family and issued a guarantee letter to the funeral service provider, covering the hazing victim’s burial expenses amounting to P40,000 on Thursday, 19 October. DSWD CALABARZON Regional Director Dr. Barry Chua also offered educational assistance for Ahldryn’s two siblings and his 6-year-old daughter. “The loss of a loved one is an incredibly distressing and overwhelming experience, and the DSWD is committed to supporting families in their time of need,” Assistant Secretary for Strategic Communications Romel Lopez, who is also DSWD spokesperson, said. Digna Esguerra-Cabrera, Ahldryn’s grandmother, expressed her gratitude to the DSWD for providing necessary support to the family in the untimely demise of Ahldryn. “Malaking tulong po sa kanila yun sa gastusin. Hindi naman nila kakayanin yung gagastusin...talagang walang pagkukuhanan (That is a big help for them with the expenses. They would not be able to afford the costs...there’s really no other source.),” a teary-eyed Cabrera said. Aldhryn, a 25-year-old student of the Philippine College of Criminology and resident of Imus, Cavite, was subjected to hazing by a fraternity group in an abandoned building in Quezon City, based on the investigation report of the Quezon City Police Department. According to the DSWD spokesperson, the Department is committed to providing further assistance and support to the Bravante family and is working in collaboration with relevant agencies to ensure that the family receives the necessary interventions. Illegal drugs worth P14M seized at NAIA
The Bureau of Customs Port of NAIA reported on Monday afternoon that 10 abandoned packages containing illegal drugs from various nations were discovered at the Central Mail Exchange Center in Domestic Road, Pasay City. The BOC-NAIA said the first five abandoned parcels contained 544 ml of liquid marijuana with an estimated value of P32,640. The other five abandoned parcels contained 8,446 tablets of Ecstasy and 924 grams of raw materials with an estimated value of P14,358,200. The parcels containing liquid marijuana were shipped from Taipei, Ireland and Malaysia. They were consigned to different individuals living in the provinces of Dunaguete, Talisay City, Zamboanga City, Misamis Oriental and Loyola Heights, Quezon City. The five other parcels containing Ecstasy tablets were shipped from countries like France, Amsterdam and the Netherlands, and were consigned to different individuals in Caloocan City and Bacoor, Cavite. All seized illegal drugs were formally turned over by the BOC-NAIA to the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency-Inter-Agency Drug Interdiction Task Force Group for proper inventory. BOC-NAIA seized party drugs from abandoned parcels
The Bureau of Customs Port of NAIA seized more than PHP 14 million worth of illegal drugs from five abandoned inbound parcels from different countries at the Central Mail Exchange Centre in the NAIA Complex, Pasay City. The first parcel, which was shipped from France, contained 2,989 tablets of ecstasy. It was concealed inside an audio speaker and addressed to a person residing in Barangay Tatalon, Quezon City. The second parcel was shipped from Amsterdam, declared as facial cream, and consigned to a person residing in Caloocan. The authorities discovered that it contained 924 grams of raw materials of Methylenedioxymethamphetamine, more commonly known as 'molly' or ecstasy. The third parcel contained 2,547 tablets of Ecstasy, shipped from UITHOORN, Netherlands, and consigned to a resident of Pasay. A fourth parcel declared as Pop-Up Pirate Game was shipped from the Netherlands and contained 2,541 tablets of ecstasy. The last abandoned parcel was shipped from Utrecht, Netherlands, and consigned to a certain individual residing in Bacoor, Cavite. The said parcel contained 369 tablets of ecstasy concealed inside the two improvised paper pouches. The BOC-NAIA turned over all seized illegal drugs with a total street value of Php14,358,200 to the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency-NAIA for proper disposal and further investigation against the person involved in the attempted drug smuggling in the country.
