Harris, Harrell help Clippers hold off Kings 133-121

By Michael Wagaman, Associated Press SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) — Tobias Harris scored 28 points, Montrezl Harrell added 24 and the Los Angeles Clippers beat the Sacramento Kings 133-121 on Thursday night (Friday, PHL time). Shai Gilgeous-Alexander had 17 points, and Avery Bradley and Danilo Gallinari had 16 apiece as the Clippers won their ninth in 10 games. Los Angeles extended its streak in Sacramento to 12 games. Bogdan Bogdanovic scored a career-high 26 for Sacramento. Marvin Bagley III added 18 points and 10 rebounds. Kings coach Dave Joerger faced questions before the game about problems between he and the team's front office after The Athletic reported that Joerger asked assistant general manager Brandon Williams to leave the team's shootaround earlier Thursday (Friday, PHL time). It comes less than two weeks after a report by Yahoo Sports suggesting that Joerger was in trouble with management over his handling of the team's younger players, specifically Bagley, the second overall pick who has come off the bench in all 21 games this season. "My job is to make sure that we are as prepared as we can be for the task in front of us and to try to limit as much distractions as possible," Joerger said. "I think the sunshine on this team, this group of players, and our city has been as high as it's been since I've been in the NBA. I'm just trying to keep the distractions to a minimum with our group. I love the game. I know that this is just part sometimes that comes with it." The Kings held together pretty well against Los Angeles before Harris and Harrell helped the Clippers pull away in the fourth quarter. After Bogdanovic's layup cut the Clippers' lead to 112-108, Harris and Harrell combined for 11 consecutive points including a pair of three-point plays by Harrell. The teams exchanged 42-point quarters in the first half. Los Angeles led by 18 in the first quarter but Sacramento went on three big runs in the second quarter and closed within 71-68 at halftime. Draymond Green spat won’t affect future, says Kevin Durant

Golden State Warriors star Kevin Durant said his recent bust-up with teammate Draymond Green will not be a factor as he debates whether to stay with the franchise in 2019. Durant is one of the biggest names to enter free agency next year, and can opt to remain with the Warriors or seek a fresh move away from the reigning NBA champions. The 30-year-old's future with the Warriors came under scrutiny last week following a row with Green during a defeat by the Los Angeles Clippers. Green's tirade hinted at locker-room strife behind the scenes, but Durant has played down any suggestion that it could prompt him to head for the exit next year. In an interview with Yahoo Sports, ...Keep on reading: Draymond Green spat won’t affect future, says Kevin Durant.....»»

Reports: Carmelo Anthony clears waivers, set to join Rockets staff report Carmelo Anthony is one step closer to joining the Houston Rockets, according to reports from Shams Charania of Yahoo! Sports and Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN. Sources: Carmelo Anthony has cleared waivers, setting up the 10-time All-Star to sign free-agent deal with the Houston Rockets. — Shams Charania (@ShamsCharania) August 1, 2018 Carmelo Anthony passes through waivers at 5 PM ET, clearing way for him to inform Houston that he will sign a one-year, $2.4M deal with Rockets. — Adrian Wojnarowski (@wojespn) August 1, 2018 Anthony was waived by the Atlanta Hawks on Monday (Tuesday, PHL time) after being traded from the Oklahoma City Thunder on July 19 (July 20, PHL time). Per various reports, the veteran forward is expected to join Chris Paul, James Harden and the Rockets now that he has officially entered the free-agent player pool. According to Wojnarowski, the contract is expected to be a one-year deal worth $2.4 million. Anthony’s lone season in Oklahoma City was largely a bust. He averaged 16.2 points and struggled at times in his new role alongside Russell Westbrook and Paul George. The 10-time All-Star posted career lows in scoring average and field goal percentage, and the Thunder were ousted in the first round of the playoffs by Utah. The 34-year-old Anthony had been the headliner his entire career — he’s 19th in NBA history with 25,417 points — but he was more of a catch-and-shoot scorer last season instead of the isolation specialist he had always been. His playing time dwindled in the playoffs. In Game 6 of the first-round series against Utah that ended Oklahoma City’s season, he played fewer minutes than reserve Jerami Grant. After the season, he said he prefers to play with the ball in his hands more and said coming off the bench is “out of the question.” Anthony opted in earlier this summer to accept the $28 million he was due next season. The Thunder re-signed Grant, then it was reported that Anthony and the Thunder would eventually part ways, though it was unclear how it would happen. Anthony would help the Rockets fill their void at forward after the team lost Trevor Ariza and Luc Mbah a Moute during free agency. Reports: Mavericks reach deal with Ferrell, close with Dirk staff report The Dallas Mavericks are making sure one of their young, talented players stays in the fold and are working to keep their franchise icon from going anywhere, too. According to ESPN's Tim MacMahon and Yahoo Sports' Shams Charania, the Mavs have an agreement in place with guard Yogi Ferrell on a two-year contract. In addition, Mavs all-time leading scorer Dirk Nowitzki and the Mavs are making plans to finalize a one-year deal with the former Finals MVP, Charania writes. Last week, the Mavs rescinded Ferrell's qualifying offer, which made him an unrestricted free agent. However, that move was just a formality, MacMahon writes, as the sides were in the final stages of working out the new deal (which costs Dallas slightly less in annual salary). Here's more from Charania on the deal Ferrell and the Mavs reached: Free agent guard Yogi Ferrell has agreed to a two-year, $5.3 million deal to return to the Dallas Mavericks, league sources told Yahoo Sports. Ferrell returned to the Mavericks with the promise of being the backup shooting guard next season, league sources said. The second season of his deal includes a trigger date on July 7, league sources said. Ferrell, 25, earns a two-year contract after spending his first two NBA seasons with the Mavericks and Brooklyn Nets. He joined the Mavericks on a 10-day contract in January 2017, one month after the Nets waived him. Ferrell was an instant success, and had a performance of 32 points and nine 3-pointers against the Portland Trail Blazers on Feb. 3, 2017, leading to a two-year deal. Last season, Ferrell averaged 10.2 points, three assists and 2.5 rebounds per game as he started 21 of 82 games played for Dallas. Per both ESPN and Yahoo Sports, the Mavs are expected to use the remaining salary cap room they have to give Nowitzki a contract. Here's more from Charania on that deal: In what could be Dirk Nowitzki’s final NBA season, the future Hall of Famer and the Dallas Mavericks plan to finalize a one-year, $5 million deal, league sources told Yahoo Sports. Nowitzki and the Mavericks are not in a rush to sign the contract, but Nowitzki remains a Maverick for life. The Mavericks and guard Yogi Ferrell agreed to a two-year, $5.3 million deal on Thursday, leaving the team with $5 million in salary cap space to re-sign Nowitzki. In late June, Nowitzki and the Mavs mutually opted out of his contract for next season to give Dallas more room to make moves in free agency. The Mavs made a sizable splash in free agency this summer as they added former All-Star center DeAndre Jordan. Nowitzki, who has played his entire NBA career with Dallas, became the first international member of the NBA's 30,000-point club in 2017. He is the team's all-time leader in points scored, games played, rebounds, blocks, field goals made and attempted, free throws made and attempted and 3-pointers made and attempted. The Mavericks haven't won a playoff series since taking the title almost seven years ago, cycling through dozens of roster moves to try to give Nowitzki another shot at a title.
