August 9, 2018. So we are standing under the rain in the middle of Malcolm Square, Baguio City. My feet and knees are starting to ache from the cold (kasi saanak nga naglana iti kadadaras ko a rumuar idi agsapa—sign of aging, no doubt) and I underestimated the rainfall, thus I neglected to bring my rubber boots. I try to be still under my umbrella to prevent more exposure to the rain, but it is inevitable when I applaud the speakers. Provincial government of Camarines Sur orders mandatory evacuation

Provincial government of Camarines Sur orders mandatory evacuation Vox Bikol Sat, 01/13/2018 - 07:43 PILI, Camarines Sur, Jan. 12 (PIA) – The 24-hour incessant rainfall due to the tail-end of a cold front and isolated thunderstorms caused an unexpected and extreme flooding in most areas in Camarines Sur, particularly in low-lying areas affecting residents living near river banks, spillways and creeks. One of the areas severely affected by flooding is the municipality of Lagonoy where spillways from Dahat to San Roque and Himagtocon spillway , Kinahulugan Bridge and Burabod Zone 6 were submerged in flood water and rendered inaccessible due to red alert flooding and strong current. The Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC) through the Environment Disaster Management Emergency Response Office (Edmero) headed by Luzena “Che” Bermeo stated that Search and Rescue team was immediately dispatched in the said area to ensure that all residents are out of danger. The danger caused by heavy rains and the peril of the continuous rise of flood water prompted Camarines Sur Governor Miguel “Migz” Villafuerte to order mandatory evacuation and directed all mayors, chairpersons of MDRRMCs, punong barangays and chairperson of BDRRMC to ensure implementation of the said order. PDRRMC also ordered the concerned LDRRMCs to inform communities near the mountain slopes and low lying areas at the rivers and its tributaries particularly at Lower Kilbay Catabangan, Ragay, Tinalmud, Tambang, and Lagonoy to take the necessary precautionary measures. Browns guard Zeitler sidelined with calf injury

By Brian Dulik, Associated Press BEREA, Ohio (AP) — Cleveland Browns starting right guard Kevin Zeitler will miss several weeks of training camp because of a calf injury. The 28-year-old Zeitler did not practice Thursday, one day after being hurt and walking off the field with a trainer. "Kevin is going to be OK, but he will be down for a little while," coach Hue Jackson said. "It is unfortunate, but we will get him back. Hopefully, he'll be ready to go in the next couple weeks or so. Those things do happen in training camp." Zeitler has started all 48 games over the past three seasons, including 16 in his first year with the Browns. The 6-foot-4, 315-pounder played with Cincinnati from 2012-2016. Cleveland's offensive line is in flux following the retirement of 10-time Pro Bowl left tackle Joe Thomas. Left guard Joel Bitonio, a second alternate for the Pro Bowl last season, has been moved to left tackle, where he is trying to block defensive end Myles Garrett in practice. Garrett was the No. 1 overall draft pick in 2017. "Myles is bringing it, and that's the best look he can get every day," Jackson said. "It's really fun to see because Joel is not giving up anything. It's a battle and he's doing well." Third-year pro Spencer Drango has filled in for Zeitler on the first team and will remain there. "Spencer has played left guard, he's played left tackle and he's been on the right side before, so he has been all around," Jackson said. "That is a comfort that we have." The Browns hold their annual "Orange and Brown" scrimmage Friday......»»

Trumpy Filipinos should smell the gaslight by now

In a previous column, I said Trump was starting to make Duterte look good. But as Trump likes to say, I misspoke. At this point, with the Russia probe clearly not a matter of a witch hunt, but rather a painstaking gathering of evidence in a complex case, you can bet Trump really wishes America was a lot more like the Philippines, a country that has the kind of president he wants to be. Rodrigo Duterte. With an orange comb-over. That's what I see when Trump (or rather, the White House) does something like ban a pool reporter from a White House event. A pool reporter, this one was a CNN reporter, covers routine events and provides information to all accredited media. But when t...Keep on reading: Trumpy Filipinos should smell the gaslight by now.....»»
