"These are the only things that would remind us of our wedding," said a tearful Amirah. What was once an ideal place to start a family was now in disarray---cooking stoves, kitchen utensils and other household items scattered on the floor. In October 2008, she finally got the keys to the Manhattan unit that she "won" in a housing lottery back in 2000. It truly felt like she hit the jackpot. Out of 15,000 people who entered the lottery, she was among the 5 percent who got selected. Heavy Bombers put a stop to struggles at expense of AMA

Jose Rizal University finally put an end to its demise, stopping its losing streak at eight with a huge 98-87 win against AMA Online Education in the 2018 PBA D-League Aspirants’ Cup on Monday at the Ynares Arena in Pasig. Paolo Pontejos took matters to his own hands late, dropping seven of his 17 points in the last seven minutes of the game as the Heavy Bombers staved off the late rally from the Titans. Kris Porter paced JRU with 21 markers and six rebounds while Ervin Grospe and Jeckster Apinan both registered an identical 17-point and five-rebound statline. “Yung maturity ng team, halatang wala pa eh. Bright side na lang is kahit papaano, may nakukuha kami sa pagsali namin sa liga na ito,” said coach Gio Lasquety. “Lumalaban lang kami every game at sabi ko nga sa kanila, pag may chance manalo, grab lang natin.” With both teams having nothing to lose, it was the Heavy Bombers who took the baton and started the game hot with a 16-5 tear before erecting a lead as high as 20, 59-39, early in the third period. Robbie Manalang and Carlo Escalambre fought back for AMA, cutting the deficit down to seven, 81-74 with 7:19 left, but Pontejos was there to quash the comeback bid and secure JRU’s second win in 10 outings. The Heavy Bombers claimed 10th place with its 2-8 card while sending the Titans down the cellar with Batangas-Emilio Aguinaldo College at 1-8. Manalang finished with 26 points and three assists in the defeat while Escalambre contributed 21 markers and eight boards.
