Nabong makes bold claim: We re going to the playoffs

After taking care of business against Kia, Globalport's path to the 2018 PBA Philippine Cup playoffs is rather simple. All the Batang Pier need to do is beat Phoenix next and they're good to go. Win and you're in, pretty simple right? "We took care of business tonight but it doesn't stop, eliminations are not over yet so we have one more game to get that spot in the best-of-3 [quarterfinals]," forward Kelly Nabong said. "We just have to lock down on defense, we have to move the ball, make our open shots. Phoenix is coming up and they're a tough team, they're very aggressive so we gotta be locked in," he added. Nabong, who finished with 21 points and 13 rebounds against the Picanto Wednesday, is pretty confident about Globalport's playoff chances moving forward. So confident in fact, that he guaranteed that the Batang Pier will advance. "No, no, it's not an if ever, we're making to the playoffs. We're making to the playoffs," he said. "I mean, we have a young, good team. We just gotta keep believing in the system, keep playing defense, and everybody has to come to play 100 percent," Nabong added.   --- Follow this writer on Twitter, @paullintag8.....»»

Blackwater makes its final case for All-Filipino playoffs

Blackwater might actually not make the playoffs despite taking a must-win game Wednesday in the 2018 PBA Philippine Cup. The Elite made their final case for the playoffs of the All-Filipino, beating Phoenix, 83-78, at the Araneta Coliseum. Finishing with a 5-6 record, Blackwater is one short of the magic number of six that enables teams to move on to the next round outright. Now, the Elite will have to wait for their finally placing as the rest of the elimination round plays out. Currently, the team is in 8th place. "I don't know the scenarios with regards with the team standings, but we're hoping that the five wins that we are good enough for a spot in the playoffs," head coach Leo Isaac said. "I would just like to commend all the players who gave their best. I won't mention names but it's a team effort. We're looking forward to playing more games this conference," he added. In a close game that was marked by 27 lead changes, the Elite had more than enough in the end to hold off the Fuel Masters. Behind a balanced scoring effort and tremendous defense down the stretch, Blackwater was able to win three of its last four games to make a final playoff push. Mike Digregorio, Mac Belo, and rookie Raymar Jose all scored 14 points apiece to lead the Elite while JP Erram had another monster outing, going for 12 points, 19 rebounds, and four blocks. For Phoenix, it was rookie Jason Perkins that carried the offense and finished with 17 points. The Fuel Masters have lost back-to-back games and are now stuck with a 4-6 record, tied for 9th place.   The Scores:  Blackwater 83 - DiGregorio 14, Belo 14, Jose 14, Sumang 12, Erram 12, Pinto 5, Sena 4, Palma 4, Cortez 3, Cruz 1, Javier 0, Banal 0, Marcelo 0, Neypes 0 Phoenix 78 - Perkins 17, Jazul 13, Chan 13, Kramer 11, Alolino 10, Chua 6, Mendoza 6, Dehesa 2, Intal 0, Wilson 0, Eriobu 0, Guevarra 0, Cortes 0 Quarters: 14-19, 40-41, 65-65, 83-78   --- Follow this writer on Twitter, @paullintag8.....»»

They credit this to major technology developments and the entrance of institutional capital, reports CNBC. "There is no reason why we couldn't see bitcoin pushing $50,000 by December," said Thomas Glucksman, head of APAC business development at cryptocurrency exchange Gatecoin.
