Chatri Sityodtong confirms Demetrious Johnson versus Adriano Moraes for ONE Flyweight Title

American mixed martial arts star Demetrious “Mighty Mouse” Johnson added another title to his already-long list of accolades, defeating Filipino rising star Danny “The King” Kingad in the finals of the ONE Flyweight World Grand Prix to secure the ONE Flyweight World Grand Prix Championship at ONE: Century Part 1, Sunday morning at the Ryogoku Kokugikan in Tokyo, Japan.  Johnson, the former long-time UFC Flyweight World Champion, outgrappled the talented Kingad for three rounds to win via Unanimous Decision and make it a perfect 3 for 3 since coming to ONE.  Now, Johnson moves just one more win away from achieving his goal of becoming a world champion in ONE after it was confirmed that he was next in line to challenge reigning ONE Flyweight World Champion Adriano “Mikinho” Moraes.  “DJ for Adriano Moraes for the World Championship,” announced ONE Championship chairman and CEO Chatri Sityodtong.  First things first for Johnson however, is some time off after competing three times in 2019.  “DJ says he want to rest, he said it’s been a very exhausting year, so let him rest, let him enjoy, then we’ll get back to the drawing board but I would expect maybe March of next year, maybe earlier,” Sityodtong said.  Johnson himself expressed his desire to take some time off before making a return in early 2020.  “I’ma take some time off, and if I can pick and choose, I want to fight maybe February or March, just give my body a chance to relax, get my health to where it needs to be and the start training and get ready then.” Moraes is coming off a unanimous decision win over Geje Eustaquio to reclaim the ONE Flyweight World Championship, his third title run in ONE. .....»»

Lito Adiwang happy and honored to receive praise from boss after ONE: Century debut

Filipino strawweight prospect Lito “Thunder Kid” Adiwang of Team Lakay made his official ONE Championship debut on the preliminary card of ONE: Century Part 1, Sunday morning at the Ryogoku Kokugikan in Tokyo, Japan, and immediately, he made an impact.    The 26-year old Adiwang, who earned a ONE contract after three straight victories in ONE Warrior Series, was primarily seen as a striker, but showcased a different facet of his game in his first foray into the big stage.    Matched up against a crafty veteran grappler and former Pancrase champion in Japan’s Senzo Ikeda, Adiwang proved that he can grapple as well, executing a beautiful judo throw straight into a keylock that ultimately spelled the end.    Ikeda ended up suffering an arm injury, leading to the TKO win for Adiwang.    It was the lone bright spot for an otherwise rough night for the Pinoy contingent in Tokyo that night, and Adiwang’s spectacular debut earned praise from ONE Championship Chairman and CEO Chatri Sityodtong.    “I was blown away by Lito’s performance. He had a very very tough opponent, Senzo Ikeda is obviously a Pancrase champion, a very very tough warrior,” Sityodtong said during the post-event press conference. “I thought that fight was going to go three full rounds of both guys going all out, so I was shocked by that Judo throw immediately to a keylock, I was blown away. Incredible performance, so I think that’s the perfect debut you could ever ask for, especially coming off ONE Warrior Series.”  #ONECentury | @yodchatri says he was “blown away” by Lito Adiwang’s #ONEChampionship debut pic.twitter.com/KIJNJ42uh4 — Santino Honasan???? (@honasantino) October 13, 2019   Adiwang joins a growing list of ONE Warrior Series graduates who are looking to do big things in their ONE careers, bannered by none other than two-sport world champion Stamp Fairtex of Thailand.    Adiwang’s impressive debut, Sityodtong believes, is just the beginning of what could be a very good ONE career.    “That’s why we have ONE Warrior Series, right? Rich Franklin scouring the entire world for the next and best prospects that could make it up to ONE Championship. Lito has a Cinderella fairy tale story, so let’s see how far he can go, but definitely, with Team Lakay and Mark Sangiao, I think the sky is the limit for Lito.”   For his part, Adiwang was happy to hear that his hard work and his efforts have not gone unnoticed.   "I feel very happy and honored na, at least they notice the hard work that I’ve put in through all the training and all the performances I’ve delivered, so I’m very thankful and honored," he expressed......»»

PBA: Last Manila Clasico for 2019?

There's still a lot going on in the 2019 PBA Governors' Cup but at least for this upcoming week, all eyes will be on defending champion Magnolia and Barangay Ginebra. Oh yes, it's Manila Clasico time. 2019 has spoiled us with Clasico games and this upcoming one might be our last for the year. This might be the best one too. The Hotshots famously ended Ginebra's two-year title reign last year, with Romeo Travis scoring an even 50 in the decisive Game 4 of the semifinals. Safe to say Justin Brownlee and the rest of the Gin Kings still remember that game. Here's the rest of the PBA schedule to look forward to this week:    Oct. 16 @ Ynares Antipolo 4:30 p.m. Columbian vs. NLEX 7: 00 p.m. Blackwater vs. Magnolia Oct. 18 @ Ynares Antipolo 4:30 p.m. Meralco vs. Blackwater 7:00 p.m. TNT vs. Alaska Oct. 20 @ the Big Dome 4:30 p.m. Columbian vs. San Miguel 6:45 p.m. Magnolia vs. Ginebra     — Follow this writer on Twitter, @paullintag8.....»»
