UAAP Commissioner reduces Perasol s suspension

University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) Basketball Commissioner Jensen Ilagan lifted the third and final game suspension imposed on University of the Philippines head coach Dolreich "Bo" Perasol. This comes after a meeting between Perasol and Ilagan last Saturday, October 12 in which the Fighting Maroons mentor expressed his sincerest apologies to the league, more importantly, to referee Jaime Rivano. "Last Saturday was the first time our office heard directly from Coach Bo and we appreciate his sincerity and evident humility in expressing his regret regarding the incident between him and referee Rivano which happened last September 29," said Ilagan. "Coach Bo emphasized how he deeply regretted his actions towards the official and extended his apology towards the UAAP Board, organization, and the entire community." With this, Perasol will make his return to the sidelines when UP takes on University of Santo Tomas on Wednesday, October 16 at 4:00 pm, SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City. The league, on the other hand, supports Ilagan's decision in lifting the ban on Perasol. "The UAAP, through the Board of Managing Directors and Board of Trustees, maintains that it will support and respect the Office of the Commissioner with regard to any technical concern," said Executive Director Rebo Saguisag. "It is also well within the Commissioner's power to reconsider on the ground of newly discovered evidence and/or developments such as availing in this case." During UP's game versus Ateneo back in September 29, Perasol was handed two technical fouls with 6:23 left in the third quarter of the contest. Perasol displayed "continuous flagrant acts of aggression" towards Rivano. This resulted in a three-game ban. Ilagan reminds all the members of the community to exert restraint and discipline, not just towards officials but to everyone on the court. "Mr. Perasol and every member of the UAAP are hereby reminded that any further unsportsmanlike acts on their part will be dealt with the full extent of the league," said Ilagan. The league is calling on the community to continuously strive for improvements moving forward. "Nevertheless, the parties recognize that there will always be room for improvement in the area of officiating which needs the full cooperation of everyone involved, particularly the coaches, players, and officials," shared Saguisag. "With the foregoing, let us all move on from the incident and focus on the game and the student-athletes.".....»»

MPBL: Batino is perfect as Rizal is no match for Bataan

The Bataan Risers continue their revival with a 78-57 home win against the Rizal Xentro Mall Golden Coolers on Saturday night in the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League Lakan Season. Ryan Batino copped best player of the game honors with 13 points, 5 from 5 from the field in front of the Risers fans in the Bataan People's Center. "Since the last game consistent kami sa pasahan, nagtiwala kami sa isa't isa," said Batino, who co-topscored for Bataan alongside Chito Jaime. Bataan go back above .500 at 9-8 while it's yet another loss for Rizal, taking them to 3-12 in the North Division. The Risers fired in the last seven points of the first half with 5 from Joseph Nalos to take a 37-31 halftime lead. In the third quarter with Bataan up 43-33 Nalos was thrown out of the game for a rash punch at Jack Hoyohoy after the Golden Cooler laid a hard screen on him. Bataan reeled off an 11-0 run late in the period and lead 60-43 going into the fourth. Rizal were unable to mount any challenge in the final period as Bataan cruised to victory. Jordan Rios led the visitors with 12 points. In the opening game of the doubleheader, the Pasig Sta. Lucia Realtors weathered a furious late fightback to trip the Bicol Volcanoes LCC Stores, 75-73. A trio of Realtors provided the bulk of the scoring for Pasig, with Jeric Teng leading with 20 markers and Robbie Manalang and Leo Najorda compiling 17 and 16 respectively. Pasig led a listless Bicol squad 40-32 at the half and when Fonso Gotladera pocketed a jumper for a 71-54 lead for the Realtors five minutes left in the fourth, the game looked done and dusted. But Bicol's Ronjay Buenafe would have nothing of it. The ex-pro connected on four straight three-pointers as part of a stunning 19-2 run capped by a Hafer Mondragon trey to square the game at 73-73. However, Pasig would have the last laugh, with Leo Najorda knocking in a jumper to complete the scoring with 25 seconds left. Buenafe had one last chance to win the game but his last-second three-pointer fell short. Alwyn Alday led Bicol with 21 points. It's a sixth straight loss for Monel Kallos' Volcanoes who are slipping out of the playoff bunch at 8-11. Pasig on the other hand are now sporting an 11-5 card, good for 4th in the North Division.                .....»»

ONE Championship: Joshua Pacio to defend title against Rene Catalan in Manila; Folayang, Eustaquio return to action

A Pinoy versus Pinoy world title affair is set to rock Manila this coming November, as ONE Championship returns to Philippine soil for the final time in 2019 with ONE: Masters of Fate, headlined by Team Lakay’s Joshua “The Passion” Pacio defending his ONE Strawweight World Championship againt compatriot Rene “D’ Challenger” Catalan.  ONE: Masters of Fate is set to take place on Friday, November 8th at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.  Team Lakay’s strawweight star Joshua Pacio is coming off a spectacular knockout win over Japan’s Yosuke Saruta in Manila back in April to reclaim the ONE Strawweight World Championship. The 23-year old Pacio is currently on his second run as the strawweight king and holds wins over the likes of former champions in Yoshitaka Naito and Dejdamrong Sor Amnuaysirichoke. He looks to successfully defend his title for the first time against the undeniable top contender in Catalan.  Catalan, on the other hand, is riding an impressive six-fight winning streak with wins over Adrian Matheis, Stefer Rahardian, and most recently, a first-round TKO win over Naito, making him the first man to stop the Japanese submission specialist. The 40-year old former Wushu medalist, who has not looked back since losing his first two professional MMA bouts, will now look to add ONE Championship gold to his already impressive combat sports resume   Pinoy Champions Return The card will also mark the return of former two-time ONE Lightweight World Champion Eduard “Landslide” Folayang as he meets up-and-coming Mongolian prospect Amarsanaa “Spear” Tsogookhuu in the co-main event.  Team Lakay’s Folayang, the biggest star in Philippine MMA today, is coming off a heartbreaking submission loss to Eddie Alvarez in the semifinals of the ONE Lightweight World Grand Prix in Manila last August, and is looking to end the year on a high note.  Tsogookhuu made quite the impact in his ONE Championship debut, defeating Thai star Shannon Wiratchai via unanimous decision. He takes a massive step up in competition as he meets the Filipino hero.  Also making his return to action will be former ONE Flyweight World Champion Geje “Gravity” Eustaquio, as he faces a familiar opponent in Finland’s Toni “Dynamite” Tauru.  Eustaquio is also looking to bounce back from a tough loss after getting knocked out for the first time in his career by the heavy-handed Yuya Wakamatsu of Japan. The former flyweight king begins his road back to redemption by trying to avenge a 2016 loss to Tauru.  That win over Eustaquio, as it turns out, has been the only bright spot in the Finnish flyweight’s last seven outings. Following his win over Eustaquio, Tauru tried his luck at bantamweight only to be defeated by the likes of Kevin Belingon, Leandro Issa, and Gary Mangat. He returns to flyweight with the hopes of repeating history against the former champion.    Here’s how the ONE: Masters of Fate card looks so far:  Joshua Pacio vs. Rene Catalan (ONE Strawweight World Championship) Eduard Folayang vs. Amarsanaa Tsogookhuu (Lightweight MMA) Sangmanee Sathian MuayThai vs. Azize Hlali (Bantamweight Muay Thai) Geje Eustaquio vs. Toni Tauru (Flyweight MMA) Stamp Fairtex vs. Bi Nguyen (Women’s Atomweight MMA) Alma Juniku vs. Anne Line Hogstad (Atomweight Muay Thai) Yoshitaka Naito vs. Pongsiri Mitsatit (Strawweight MMA) Han Zi Hao vs. Kongsak PK.Saenchaimuaythaigym (Bantamweight Muay Thai) Jae Wong Kim vs. Emilio Urrutia (Featherweight MMA) Tukkatatong Petpayathai vs. Hiroaki Suzuki (Bantamweight Muay Thai) Kim Kyu Sung vs. Akihiro Fujisawa (Flyweight MMA) Roshan Mainam vs. Khon Sichan (Flyweight MMA)  .....»»
