NIA, DENR to promote advanced water security in Phl
The National Irrigation Administration and the Department of Environment and Natural Resources agreed to strengthen the water rights of NIA and further promote water security in the Philippines, Malacañang said on Thursday. In a statement released by the Palace, Environment Undersecretary Carlos Primo David underscored that the government will ensure water security through various government agencies. "(This) is a convergence between several government agencies with water-related functions … we are able to plan and coordinate our efforts together and I'm referring to the DENR, which I represent, the National Water Resources Board, and everyone here in Malacañang," David said. This means that NIA's irrigation water will not only be used for the agricultural sector but will also be utilized for power production, bulk water supply, aquaculture, recreation, tourism, and other purposes. DENR has been given the directive to protect the country's water resources to meet its needs, as mandated by the law. In connection with this, the Office of the Executive Secretary has encouraged the NIA, the National Water Resources Board, and the Water Resources Management Office to be more responsive to the country's needs in the use and development of water resources. The DENR, through the National Water Resources Board and the Water Resources Management Office, will have the responsibility of safeguarding and preserving water resources to meet the evolving requirements as outlined in the existing laws governing water management and utilization. In a similar vein, Senior Deputy Executive Secretary Hubert Guevarra encouraged the NIA, NWRB, and the WRMO to be more adaptable to the changing needs of the nation in how they use and develop water resources, aligning their actions with the fundamental principles of the water code and the President's objective of achieving water security. This memorandum of agreement aligns with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.'s Executive Order No. 22, which established the WRMO under the DENR, tasked with coordinating and harmonizing all government initiatives and regulatory activities to ensure the sustainable management and availability of water resources throughout the entire country. Also in attendance at the event were Assistant Secretary Jason Alba from the Office of the Senior Deputy Executive Secretary, Department of Finance Undersecretary Catherine Fong, and NIA Acting Civil Works Design Section Chief Engr. Roald Marck Revellame. The post NIA, DENR to promote advanced water security in Phl appeared first on Daily Tribune......»»
Haikui triggers Taiwan evacuation
More than 2,800 people across seven cities were evacuated and over 200 domestic flights were canceled Sunday in Taiwan as typhoon Haikui made landfall. Packing a sustained wind speed of about 140 kilometers per hour, Haikui was spotted 180 kilometers east of Taiwan at 9 a.m. and made landfall at 3:40 p.m. in Taitung, a mountainous county in the lesser-populated eastern part of the island, the Central Weather Bureau said. CWB’s deputy director Fong Chin-tzu said Haikui has gathered some strength since Saturday and would move west to the Taiwan Strait by Monday. “I remind the people to make preparations for the typhoon and watch out for your safety, avoid going out or any dangerous activities,” Taiwanese President Tsai Ing-wen warned. The evacuation was concentrated in the northeastern coastal Yilan county where towering waves slammed against the shore. The military had mobilized soldiers and equipment — such as amphibious vehicles and inflatable rubber boats — around the parts of Taiwan where Haikui is expected to have the heaviest impact. The last major storm to hit Taiwan was typhoon Bailu in 2019, which left one person dead. Haikui is expected to be less severe than Saola, which bypassed Taiwan but triggered the highest threat level in nearby Hong Kong and southern China before it weakened into a tropical storm by Saturday. A Grand Time with Manila Pianos Inc.
Tonight, I gave my dancing shoes a rest for a more mellow evening to enjoy music at its purest form. We joined Manila Pianos Inc. for a glamorous gala at the Ronac Lifestyle Center and celebrated local talent on an international platform! [caption id="attachment_172352" align="aligncenter" width="525"] Virgie Monton, Joy Fong and[/caption] [caption id="attachment_172344" align="aligncenter" width="525"] Czarina Camus and Consul Marina Ong Nuguid[/caption] [caption id="attachment_172345" align="aligncenter" width="525"] David Lim and Michelle Lim[/caption] [caption id="attachment_172349" align="aligncenter" width="525"] Nicole Anderson, Manolyne Taylor and Jean Saburit[/caption] [caption id="attachment_172355" align="aligncenter" width="525"] Cory Quirino, Rupert Jacinto and Dean Deaker[/caption] [caption id="attachment_172350" align="aligncenter" width="525"] Turkish Ambassador, Niyazi Evren Akyol and wife Madam Indri Akyol[/caption] [caption id="attachment_172353" align="aligncenter" width="525"] Herman Shaldo and Jen Uy[/caption] [caption id="attachment_172351" align="aligncenter" width="525"] Ambassador of Egypt Ahmed Shehabeldin and Egyptian Consul Dr. Amin Abdelnaby.[/caption] [caption id="attachment_172354" align="aligncenter" width="525"] Ambassador of Brazil, H.E. We were joined by embassy leaders and government officials, along with other esteemed guests who all support the arts and Filipino talent. With the perfect blend of an amazing crowd plus world-class talent and performances, I really loved the atmosphere of this event! It was perfect for catching up and for conversations. And rightfully so because we were joined by a very special guest, too. Fernando Carrillo, leading man of the hit telenovela, Rosalinda gave us a blast from the past by gracing us with his presence. But it looks like he hasn’t aged a day! He charmed us all with stories from the industry and even a special performance. A real-life leading man, indeed. We ended the evening with a generous intercontinental feast as we were continuously serenaded by amazing talents. Looking around, it was a sight to behold seeing this community for culture, arts and camaraderie always come together wherever their support is summoned. A common love for music sets them apart, of course. Thank you, Manila Pianos, Inc. for hosting and having us! Looking forward to more splendid soirees with you. Cheers! Proudly Filipino Fashion, Arts and Music
Our tradition lives on, thanks to the Philippine Heritage Society. We capped May off with a grand soiree for National Heritage Month entitled “Tertulia Flores de Mayo: A Celebration of Fashion, Arts & Music.” And that we did with aplomb. [caption id="attachment_169542" align="aligncenter" width="1584"] Rupert Jacinto and Dean Decker.[/caption] [caption id="attachment_169535" align="aligncenter" width="1199"] Georgette Wilson and Tiffany Cuña.[/caption] [caption id="attachment_169534" align="aligncenter" width="1199"] Robert Castañeda and Lanie Fong.[/caption] [caption id="attachment_169533" align="aligncenter" width="1199"] Carlo Montemayor and Eric LeCain.[/caption] [caption id="attachment_169532" align="aligncenter" width="1199"] AJ Olpindo and Jorge Hizon.[/caption] [caption id="attachment_169531" align="aligncenter" width="1199"] Irene Montemayor, Roy Lopez, Cocoy Cordoba and Michael Chiu Rosero.[/caption] [caption id="attachment_169530" align="aligncenter" width="1199"] Raymund Villanueva and Tess Castro.[/caption] [caption id="attachment_169540" align="aligncenter" width="1284"] Gerry Sunga and George Yano.[/caption] [caption id="attachment_169539" align="aligncenter" width="774"] Rose Tolentino[/caption] [caption id="attachment_169538" align="aligncenter" width="1199"] Isabelle Denise Garcia[/caption] [caption id="attachment_169537" align="aligncenter" width="780"] Mariecris Callo[/caption] [caption id="attachment_169536" align="aligncenter" width="1347"] ChuchiVillar[/caption] [caption id="attachment_169543" align="aligncenter" width="1919"] David and Mache Ackerman with their daughter Emilia.[/caption] [caption id="attachment_169541" align="aligncenter" width="521"] Philippine Heritage Society co-founder Sherwin Sozon.[/caption] Casa Blanca in Intramuros was the absolute perfect venue to bring us back to old Manila. It was also a great setting for our photo ops as we strutted our stuff in Filipiniana outfits. Some went for classic, while others like me went for a modern twist to Filipiniana. Either way, every look was 100 percent fab! The fashion continued into the program featuring society’s beauties in glamorous gowns inspired by the Santacruzan. These were all designed by Oskar Peralta, Lito Perez, Frankie de Leon, Peri Diaz, Ole Morabe, Ronaldo Arnaldo and Shiela Apostol; while the opulent jewelry was all care of Gerry Sunga. [caption id="attachment_169529" align="aligncenter" width="1600"] Ronaldo Arnaldo, Frankie De Leon, Oscar Atendido, Oskar Peralta and Pando Manipon.[/caption] Even the live music took us back with nostalgic melodies and kundiman from the Lyric Opera of the Philippines. I kept my own dance moves to the music modern though! Good thing the UP Filipiniana Dance Group was there to represent the traditional dances. Comedian Prinsipe Makata also kept the night on a high note with an entertaining poetry reading. Brava to the head hermana, Prima Mache Torres-Ackerman! Plus to the Manila Hotel and the Intramuros Administration for their support. I heard through the grapevine (a.k.a. over wine) that the Society’s founders are already planting the seeds for a bigger and better Flores De Mayo 2024. Sign me up in advance! I just know it’s going to be amazing. Cheers, my amigos and amigas! The post Proudly Filipino Fashion, Arts and Music appeared first on Daily Tribune......»»
