PBA: Nash Racela to Bong s son Kiefer: 'Lipat na!'

Kiefer Ravena to TNT? Former KaTropa head coach Nash Racela's got jokes as hours after news broke that he's been replaced by Bong Ravena as chief mentor of the flagship MVP franchise, he used socially media to playfully put a thought out there for PBA fans to argue all week long. Racela tagged Kiefer Ravena, son of Bong and current NLEX point guard, on Twitter and said he should join his father in TNT. "Lipat na! Haha," he wrote. Of course, Racela likewise wished coach Bong good luck. Both of them have been part of the TNT coaching staff for the longest time and Ravena was one of Nash's chief assistants when he got promoted to head coach. [Related: PBA: Ravena takes over as TNT head coach] "Good thigs come to those who wait. Wishing Bong Ravs and his revamped coaching staff the best this conference and beyond," Racela said. Good things come to those who wait. Wishing Bongravs & his revamped coaching staff the best this conference and beyond. @kieferravena lipat na!! Haha. — Nash Racela (@scwtN) September 21, 2018 After a 1-4 start to the Governors' Cup, including back-to-back lopsided defeats, Racela has been on indefinite leave. Eric Gonzales coached TNT on an interim basis during the team's overtime victory over Kia. Racela was also promoted from being an assistant after the 2016 season, taking over from Jong Uichico. In less than two seasons for the KaTropa, coach Nash had three semfinals stints and one Finals. However, this season has been rough for TNT. The KaTropa have yet to make it back to the semis, losing to San Miguel in the quarterfinals of both the Philippine Cup and the Commissioner's Cup.   --- Follow this writer on Twitter, @paullintag8.....»»

PBA: San Miguel pours it in third period to halt Columbian

The San Miguel Beermen showed off their shooting prowess as they drilled 23 three-pointers to down the Columbian Dyip, 143-119, in the continuation of the 2018 PBA Governors' Cup at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum Friday evening. They tie a PBA record for most three-pointers made in a game, achieved twice by the TNT KaTropa franchise, which they last did on Jan. 14, 2009, coincidentally against the Beermen, per PBA chief statistician Fidel Mangonon III.  Down by two in a back-and-forth first half, 64-66, San Miguel exploded in the third quarter, finishing the period on a very high note, as they closed the final 7:28 with a 34-11 blitz and never looked back to improve to a 2-1 record. Columbian meanwhile drops to 0-6. Arwind Santos started off the gates very quickly, scoring 19 points in the opening period on 7/11 shooting, including a scorching 5/8 clip from downtown. The former league MVP finished this outing with 29 markers, and seven threes, coupled with five rebounds and four blocks.  San Miguel's Gilas Pilipinas trio of Marcio Lassiter, Christian Standhardinger, and Alex Cabagnot meanwhile combined for a 61-point effort, including six three-pointers from Marcio and three from Alex.  "That's one thing na sinasabi ko sa kanila. We stressed yung offense. the problem is our defense. In the first half we gave up 64 points and that's not a sign of good D. Fortunately our offense is superb. Happy because we won the game but sad we're not playing good defense," San Miguel coach Leo Austria said after the game.  Jackson Corpuz meanwhile paced Columbian's offense with 28 points, and was followed by import Akeem Wright's 22. Jerramy King and Rashawn McCarthy added 22 points and 18, respectively. AZ Reid meanwhile flirted with a quadruple-double, posting 16 points, 17 rebounds, 11 assists, and six steals.  THE SCORES: SMB (143) -- Santos 29, Lassiter 28, Standhardinger 21, Reid 16, Nabong 14, Cabagnot 12, Pessumal 11, Ross 7, Heruela 5. Mamaril 0, Vigil 0, Ganuelas-Rosser 0, Agovida 0, de Ocampo 0. NCAA: Jayvee Marcelino suffers deep cut on his face

With 8:35 left in the fourth quarter, Lyceum of the Philippines University's defensive guard Jayvee Marcelino fell on the floor with a bloody face after being inadvertently hit on the left side by the University of Perpetual Help's Rom Mangalino's elbow.   Jayvee Marcelino goes down and is bloodied after an accidental elbow. (⚠️ Warning: Graphic Image) #NCAASeason94 pic.twitter.com/cNbs3sO3FG — ABS-CBN Sports (@abscbnsports) September 21, 2018   He was brought out of the court and was never able to come back since then. Marcelino just waited until the game ended and was eventually brought to St. Luke's Medical Center to have his cut stitched. "Sana walang fracture, ang lalim eh," said head coach Topex Robinson. Team officials and teammates rushed to Marcelino, who was grimacing in pain as his face bleed profusely near the half court. Unfortunately, aside from Marcelino's cut, Lyceum had to endure their first loss of the season after a 12-game winning streak. This is also their first loss in the elimination round since NCAA Season 92 last year. "[Perpetual] really played tremendous basketball, they stuck till the end. It could happen to anybody. We're not invincible. At the end of the day, life goes on for us. We're more worried about Jayvee [Marcelino] because of the cut, that's our primary concern right now," Robinson added......»»
