Strong finish in worlds a stepping stone for Pinoy golfer Rupert Zaragosa

Filipino golf standout Rupert Zaragosa believes his sixth-place finish in the World University Golf Championships is a sign of brighter things to come. The Canlubang, Laguna native is nothing but positive about his experience, especially since he's eyeing to represent the nation in the upcoming Asian Games, and is mulling about going pro next year. "Magandang experience ito para sa akin, lalo na para sa nalalapit na national qualifying tournament sa darating na Asian Games," added Zaragosa, who led Lyceum to three national inter-collegiate championships. Zaragosa, a Foreign Service student at Lyceum of the Philippines University-Cavite hit a 3-under 69 on the final day of competition at the Pradera Verde Golf and Country Club in Lubao, Pampanga on Saturday. He birdied 3 of the last 6 holes on a hot afternoon to end with a 4-day score of 1-under 286, finishing 8 shots behind Daiki Imano of Japan. "I did my best. I played well in the last 2 rounds despite the hot weather condition. It was not enough (to win), but masaya na din ako," said Zaragosa, who plans to turn pro next year. After rising to prominence by winning title in the boys' 11 to 12 years old division in the Callaway World Junior Golf Championship in San Diego, California in July 2010, Zaragosa, 20, is just soaking it all in. "Magandang experience ito para sa akin, lalo na para sa nalalapit na national qualifying tournament sa darating na Asian Games," added Zaragosa, who led Lyceum to three national inter-collegiate championships. Another Japanese, Yuto Katsuragawa (69, 280) finished second while Henry Tschopp of Switzerland settled for third place (73, 281).  The two other Filipino campaigners — Jonas Christian Magcalayo of Mapia and Lanz William Uy — came in 22nd and 23rd, respectively......»»
