Filipino strawweight contender Ramon "The Bicolano" Gonzales will no longer be competing at ONE: Dreams of Gold in Bangkok, Thailand this Friday, August 16th.  According to ONE Championship, Gonzales failed the Weight and Hydration process resulting in the cancellation of his card-opening bout against China's Hexigetu.  Gonzales was able to make weight, coming in at the strawwweight limit of 57.6-kilograms, but was unable to reach the needed hydration value to be cleared to compete. In heated Finals, Ross tells TNT to “keep crying to the PBA”

Chris Ross is no longer subtle with his mind games against TNT KaTropa in the 2019 PBA Commissioner’s Cup Finals. First, Ross called Terrence Jones a “baby” for yet another incident that got Ross a headbutt from the TNT import. “Mentally, he’s a baby,” Ross said. “I got two busted lips and now a lump from a dude that’s mentally two-years-old,” he added. Ross didn’t stop there though. After finding out that the KaTropa might have issues from all the mind games going on, Ross said TNT should grow up or if not, go play somewhere else. Also, there’s that option of crying to the PBA, Ross added. “It’s basketball. Are you gonna cry about that? We’re not playing dirty, no ones playing dirty. They’re gonna cry about people playing mind games? Come on man, grow up,” he said. “No one’s doing nothing dirty, if you’re not mentally strong enough to play in a game like this, then go play somewhere else. If they’re crying about playing mind games, they need to check themselves. If that’s what they want to cry to the PBA, let them cry about that,” Ross added. The San Miguel Beer point guard insinuated that all of TNT’s “crying” earned the team a ton of free throws in a Game 3 win. True, the KaTropa beat the Beermen in total free throws, 45-28, but San Miguel was only called for four more fouls than TNT, 30-26. Brian Heruela, Don Trollano, Terrence Jones, Chris McCullough, and Terrence Romeo were all in foul trouble from both teams with five fouls each. Troy Rosario and June Mar Fajardo finished with four fouls each. Two TNT players got the bulk of the free throws in Jones (14/23) and Jayson Castro (8/10). In the case of Jones, he was fouled 14 times. “I guess it worked today because they got 50 [45] free throws. I guess it worked,” Ross said. “If that’s how they want to do it, keep crying to the PBA. Because I know that’s what they did,” he added.   — Follow this writer on Twitter, @paullintag8.....»»

PBA Finals: Ross goes off on Jones: “Mentally, he’s a baby”

The extra stuff between TNT’s Terrence Jones and the San Miguel Beermen, specifically Chris Ross, continues. In Game 3 of the 2019 PBA Commissioner’s Cup Finals Friday, things got intense early as Jones gave Ross an actual headbutt in the first quarter. The incident earned Jones a flagrant foul penalty one and Ross was actually called for a tecnical foul for taunting. “Mentally, he’s a baby,” Ross said of Jones. “I was going straight and then he came and headbutted me. I thought that was more than an F1. They called what they called but he’s mentally a baby,” he added. Ross argues that he never should have been called for a tech, saying he didn’t say anything to Jones. But replays showed that Ross was definitely talking near Jones as the two walked off the play during a dead ball. “I got a tech for no reason, I didn’t turn and talk to him or anything. The give me a tech for nothing,” Ross said. “They [referees] said they thought I said something to him [Jones]. You can’t give a tech for you thinking something. That was their explanation to me. I think that’s BS,” Ross added. Jones and TNT eventually got the last laugh in Game 3, erasing an early 17-point deficit to take a 2-1 series lead in the Finals. The TNT import dropped 37 points, 18 rebounds, nine assists, and five blocks. After a sensational Game 2, Ross was limited to just five points in Game 3.   — Follow this writer on Twitter, @paullintag8.....»»

PBA Finals: Jones keeps mouth shut on Game 3 issues: “I’m not giving credit to any dirty player”

Things are for sure getting interesting between TNT import Terrence Jones and the San Miguel Beermen. In Game 3 of the 2019 PBA Commissioner’s Cup Finals, the Beermen once again tried to get under the skin of Jones. It looked like it worked early as Jones actually gave Chris Ross a headbutt, earning him a flagrant foul penalty 1. However, Jones got the last laugh as he ame back from a mandatory rest period and led TNT’s comeback from 17 points down. With 37 points, 18 rebounds, nine assists, and five blocks, Jones’ powered the KaTropa’s 115-105 win for a 2-1 series lead. Jones has no more words for the opposition’s antics. “I don’t know man. I don’t really got too much to say about it. I’m just here trying to win,” Jones said. “I love this game of basketball, I’m not giving any credit to any dirty player. I want to continue talking about basketball,” he added. While Jones have no mor things to say, Chris Ross had some choice words for his import rival. For the headbutt he got, Ross said that Jones is a “baby” mentally. [Related: PBA Finals: Ross goes off on Jones: “Mentally, he’s a baby”] Again, Jones refused to comment and instead gave credit to his own teammates who helped him won Game 3 of the Finals. “I think Troy had a great game, I think Roger had a great game, I think Don played an excellent game today. And Jayson of course,” Jones said. “I wanna continue talking about basketball and give credit to my teammates on what we’re doing to fight through and continue trying to get wins,” he added.   — Follow this writer on Twitter, @paullintag8.....»»

ONE Championship: Honorio Banario already a winner even before ONE: DAWN OF HEROES

Honorio “The Rock” Banario dropped a decision loss to “Crazy Dog” Dae Sung Park at ONE: DAWN OF HEROES last Friday at the Mall Of Asia Arena in Manila, Philippines.  But little does the audience know that the former ONE Featherweight World Champion from Team Lakay was already a big winner even before he climbed into the ring. Moments before Banario marked his return to the ring, his wife Jessica gave birth to their first-born son, Zeus Thorinstone. “I couldn’t sleep at night, I was worried of course,” Banario said. “We were thinking of different things. It’s my first baby. I wasn’t even thinking of my match anymore, maybe it’s because it’s my first time and things are really overwhelming.” Banario barely slept after he learned that his wife went to labor the night before the big event. He did all he could while Jessica was in the hospital, closely monitoring the developments of his wife’s delivery. “The Rock” finally had a sigh of relief when he received word that his partner successfully delivered a healthy baby boy at lunch time. He admitted that his big day as a father took his eye off the ball as he momentarily forgot that he had a match in the evening. “My focus shifted on them. But I mean, it’s no excuse. I should be a professional, it’s part of the challenges,” Banario said. “Of course I’m still [disappointed] with the outcome, but I survived and now we’re moving forward.” “The Rock” took another loss and his dream of becoming a World Champion again moves further away thanks to his latest defeat. Despite all of it, Banario remained in good spirits as he felt like more than a champion for becoming a dad. “I have the best trophy, as they say. I am not thinking about the results,” Banario said. “I gave my best. I entertained the people. It’s just that we fell short. We’ll go back to the gym, work on my game, and bounce back next time. But for now, I can’t wait to return to Baguio cause they’re waiting for me.".....»»
