Are KC Concepcion and Aly Borromeo still together?

It is unknown whether KC Concepcion and footballer and Kaya team captain Aly Borromeo have called it quits, but the absence of their posts about each other have been noticed by many. When Concepcion and Borromeo first got together, they were avidly posting pictures of each other often on social media, with Borromeo paying regular visits to Concepcion's family home. These days, however, the two have quieted down, even during Valentine's Day last week. It can be remembered, however, that last Valentine's Day, Borromeo and Concepcion attended a service in Victory Church together, looking all loved up, as shared by Concepcion in her Instagram page back in Feb. 15, 2017. After his appearance in the 2018 Pyeongchang Olympics, two-time Olympian Michael Martinez sat down and talked with ANC's Migs Bustos about his journey and the things he endured before qualifying in the quadriennial affair. The Filipino, even though performing a flawless routine, just came up short, finishing 28th in a competition that took the top 24. Martinez was not even supposed to be in this competition, as he was named as a replacement for a Swedish skater that failed to meet requirements. The 21-year old revealed that he even thought of finally hanging up the skates for good after narrowly missing the cut in the 2017 CS Nebelhorn Trophy, where the top six automatically booked a spot in the Winter Olympics. #ANCHeadstart: Filipino figure skater Michael Martinez reveals he considered hanging up the skates for good after narrowly missing the cut for the Olympics. #ANCRecap pic.twitter.com/1LJBDh9kOH — ABS-CBN News Channel (@ANCALERTS) February 20, 2018 After failing to meet the cutoff, Martinez eventually ventured into bodybuilding to improve his body's strength, but eventually had to remove all his gained weight in order to retain the sleeker figure, which is more helpful in his sport. #ANCHeadstart: "Since I made it to Olympics, I have to lose everything." Barangay Babylon goes to Berlin

For filmmaker Keith Deligero, persistence has paid off, big-time. To be more accurate, being a persistent prankster has taken him places---most notably, to this year's Berlinale short film competition, ongoing in Germany until Feb. 25. Three years ago, he submitted material to QCinema fest. "But it was rejected on the first round. It was 'experimental' or just absurd, I guess." In the 2017 edition of QCinema, he "lifted" the material's third act and turned it into a short film. "I submitted it, almost as a prank. But this time, I got lucky." That was how "Babylon," the short film, was born. He admitted that he used to prefer making full-length features, like his Cinema On...Keep on reading: Barangay Babylon goes to Berlin.....»»

AP source: Hosmer, Padres reach preliminary eight-year deal

By Janie McCauley, Associated Press PEORIA, Ariz. (AP) — Just the thought of free agent first baseman Eric Hosmer joining the downtrodden, youthful San Diego Padres sent a morning jolt through the spring training clubhouse. The on-field vibe seemed equally cheery, as country music blared as players went to work under sunny skies in the Arizona desert. Hosmer reached a preliminary agreement on an eight-year contract with the Padres, pending a physical. A person with direct knowledge of the deal confirmed the tentative deal, speaking on the condition of anonymity Sunday because there had been no formal announcement of Hosmer's potential signing. It would become official once he passes a physical early in the week. While the final position players reported Sunday — most were already in spring camp — ahead of Monday's first full-squad workout, Hosmer wasn't expected in the desert until at least Monday. Hosmer, who spent his first seven major league seasons with Kansas City, would receive a reported $144 million. Padres manager Andy Green could only discuss the acquisition of Hosmer in generalities since it isn't final, but was hopeful of having his full team together Monday. "I can't replicate the magic of the first day twice, so, yeah, you want him or anyone to be there when you're talking," Green said. "... Not that there is any real magic on the first day, but it's always nice to have your camp settled as early as possible." The 28-year-old Hosmer batted a career-high .318 in 2017 and matched his best from the previous season with 25 home runs. A four-time Gold Glover and All-Star in '16, he drove in 94 runs and scored 98 for the Royals last season. He also had a career-best .385 on-base percentage. Veteran right-hander Chris Young also came to the Padres this offseason after most recently pitching three seasons for the Royals, calling Hosmer "one of my all-time favorite teammates" who brings "a competitive fire" that will be much-welcomed. He hadn't been in touch with Hosmer in recent days but they did communicate earlier in the winter when Young chose San Diego and discussed that it was among Hosmer's top choices, too. Young said he didn't want to add any pressure to Hosmer making a decision. "Hos is a legitimate All-Star," Young said. "I think he brings a veteran experience, he's a winner, he's a champion and a great mentor for young guys. So I think he fits all the categories I think you're looking in terms of a teammate, a leader, a competitor. I think he makes any clubhouse better, much less this one." While most every club feels a sense of optimism this time of year with a fresh slate as spring training begins, the Padres were especially upbeat as they got going early Sunday at the idea of the power-hitting Hosmer in their lineup and at first base. San Diego went 71-91 last season for fourth in the NL West above only the San Francisco Giants, and the Padres haven't been to the playoffs since losing in the 2006 NL Division Series. Green knows what someone such as Hosmer could mean to a club's chances of turning it around. "It was always time to start contending for me," said Green, beginning his third season as San Diego skipper. "It was always go out and win opening day and go out and win every game. I haven't been very good at that, I have to acknowledge that. At this point in time, opening day has been cruel to me so far. "But I think we show up with the expectation of winning the first game of the season and don't waver from that no matter who's in that clubhouse. Does it get easier if certain people are in that clubhouse? Yeah, it sure does." Wil Myers, who played 154 games at first for San Diego last season, was ready to move positions as needed. He can play elsewhere in the infield and all three outfield spots and Green said he would be "magically" taking fly balls in right field Sunday. "Wil's been great with everything that's ever been asked of him," Green said. Myers said the Padres communicated with him during the offseason about the possibility of adding Hosmer, saying: "When I saw that possibility I was very excited. To be able to add a player like that I think is very cool." Myers played in 2010 with Hosmer in the minors with the Royals. "I know nothing's definite right now but just to be able to hopefully add a guy like that is pretty special," Myers said. "He's a great guy. He's going to be a guy that fits really well in this clubhouse. ... You've heard a lot of great things about him, what he does in the clubhouse and who he is as a person.".....»»

Bubba Watson wins at Riviera for the 3rd time

By Doug Ferguson, Associated Press LOS ANGELES (AP) — Bubba Watson ended two years without winning with his third victory at Riviera. Watson seized control Sunday with two par putts as everyone around him was dropping shots, then pulling ahead by holing a bunker shot on the par-3 14th hole. He closed with a 2-under 69 for a two-shot victory in the Genesis Open over Kevin Na and Tony Finau, and more tears on the 18th green. It was his first victory since he won at Riviera two years ago, rising to No. 4 in the world. Watson showed up this year at No. 117, coming off a year filled with so many doubts that he says he discussed retirement with his wife on a dozen occasions. If anything, the only talk of retirement should be whether settle down off Sunset Boulevard. He joined Ben Hogan and Lloyd Mangrum as three-time winners at Riviera. Hogan's victories include a U.S. Open. Na hit a wedge close to perfection from the worst angle on the reachable par-4 10th hole for a birdie and two-putted for birdie on the 11th to briefly take the lead. He fell back with consecutive bogeys from the trees and shot 69. Finau lurked all day. His last chance was an eagle putt on the 17th that stopped inches short of the hole. Patrick Cantlay had a one-shot lead going to the back nine until he ran into tree trouble on the 12th and 13th holes. The UCLA alum could do no better than pars the rest of the way for a 71 to tie for fourth with Scott Stallings (68). Phil Mickelson also was in the hunt. He was within one shot of the lead when he hit a 4-iron from a deep bunker on the 15th hole to just right of the green. But he went after birdie and watched the ball roll 20 feet down the hill, leading to bogey. Mickelson shot 68 and tied for sixth. Coming off good weeks at Phoenix and Pebble Beach, Mickelson has three straight top 10s for the first time since 2009. Watson, meanwhile, wrapped up another fun-filled week in L.A. on and off the golf course, which included an appearance in the NBA All-Star celebrity game, where he shot an air ball from just inside the top of the key and was rejected by Tracy McGrady driving — jogging, really — along the baseline toward the basket. Far more memorable was getting his 10th career PGA Tour victory. "My goal has always been to get 10 wins. So many emotions going through my head right now," Watson said, choking back tears. "You never know if you're going to play good again. You never know if you're going to lift the trophy." Watson once jokingly said he would retire if he reached 10 tour victories, though this should only motivate him more, especially with the Masters closing in. Watson already had two green jackets. He finished at 12-under 272 and moved to No. 41 in the world, which makes him eligible for the World Golf Championship in Mexico City in two weeks. Watson had a one-shot lead going into the final round, though this was up for grabs from the start. A week of sun made Riviera firmer than usual and penalized even the slightest mistakes, especially starting on the 12th hole when the course turns back toward the west and into the wind. Watson hit a delicate chip from short of the 12th green to 8 feet and made the par putt on its last turn. Then, he came up short to a tough pin on the 13th, chipped to 8 feet and made it again to take a one-shot lead. His big moment came on the 14th. Watson hit too big of a fade toward the left pin, and it came up short and into the bunker. He blasted out and watched it bang into the pin and disappear, and he pointed at caddie Ted Scott and said, "You called it." From there, he didn't make any mistakes with regulation pars on the next two holes, two putts from 60 feet for birdie on the 17th and a safe par on the 18th. Defending champion Dustin Johnson, starting the final round four shots behind after a 64 on Saturday, made a double bogey on No. 5 that derailed him. Johnson made a triple bogey on that hole in the opening round......»»

Meralco spoils Devance’s return with win over Ginebra

BOCAUE --- Joe Devance would have liked to mark his return from a foot injury with a victory. After all, his first game this season was interestingly at Philippine Arena, the site of Ginebra's 2017 Governors' Cup triumph last October, and against their Finals foes in Meralco. But the Bolts had other plans as they came away with an 84-82 win on Sunday night. "I'm just disappointed that we lost, especially since it's my first game back," Devance said. The most important thing is that Devance is slowly but surely getting himself back to his old form. "I'm okay. I still have quite a bit to go," he said after playing for 18 minutes and finishing with four points, three rebo...Keep on reading: Meralco spoils Devance’s return with win over Ginebra.....»»

Kiefer making the Philippine Arena his own personal playground

BOCAUE, Bulacan --- It could be safe to say that Kiefer Ravena likes playing at the Philippine Arena. The Phenom has only played two games at the massive INC-owned facility and those two are some of his better performances so far in his rookie season. His first time at the Philippine Arena in Christmas of 2017, he scored 20 points, dunked for the first time in the PBA, and got a win. The second time on Sunday, he scored 23 points, punched his ticket to his first PBA playoff appearance and oh yes, he got another win. Not too bad. "It's not so often you play in this kind of atmosphere. Bihira lang maglaro PBA dito so make the most of the opportunity here," Ravena said. Sunday at the Philippine Arena also gave the league a glimples of what the "K and K" backcourt could do. While Ravena had 23 points, it was actually Kevin Alas that led NLEX in scoring with 25, a new PBA career-high. If the duo ends up being a powerful combination for the Road Warriors, this game against Blackwater would be a nice origin story. However, there's more important business for NLEX to handle right now and that's taking care of its playoff bid. "Even though we're secured of the quarterfinals, we want to continue the momentum and finish as high as we can," Ravena said.   --- Follow this writer on  Twitter, @paullintag8.....»»

Bolts get back at Ginebra in the PH Arena to stay alive in the All-Filipino

BOCAUE, Bulacan --- Meralco and Ginebra delivered another classic at the Philippine Arena here. However, unlike Game 7 of the 2017 Governors' Cup Finals, it was the Bolts that took a crucial win Sunday, walking away with an 84-82 win to stay alive in the 2018 PBA Philippine Cup. Jason Ballesteros played hero for Meralco, scoring the go-ahead putback in the final 36 seconds after Chris Newsome and Reynel Hugnatan failed to find the bottom of the net for the Bolts. He also secured a crucial rebound on the other end and drilled one of two free throws with 17 seconds to go to help Meralco pull through. Japeth Aguilar missed a game-winning triple for the Gin Kings to end the contest. "It's just great effort from the guys just knowing the circumstances that had we lost today, we're out of the tournament," head coach Norman Black said. "The guys just came out there and played to get the win," he added. Coming out of nowhere, Ballesteros played 31 minutes and finished with seven points and a career-high 17 rebounds for Meralco. Meanwhile, Garvo Lanete led the Bolts in scoring with 19 points and Anjo Caram dropped 16, also a career high. Hugnatan and Newsome drilled 12 points apiece for the Bolts who are now tied with TNT and Blackwater for 9th place with identical 4-6 records. As for Ginebra, the Gin Kings failed to punch their ticket to the playoffs and are currently stuck in 6th place with a 5-5 mark. Japeth Aguilar led the way for the barangay with 20 points while Scottie Thompson added 17 and 13 rebounds.   The Scores: MERALCO 84 — Lanete 19, Caram 16, Hugnatan 12, Newsome 12, Ballesteros 7, Salva 5, Amer 4, Bono 4, Canaleta 3, Faundo 2, Sedurifa 0, Tolomia 0.
