P5.3 B worth of fake goods – mostly cigarettes – seized in Q1

Most fake or counterfeit goods confiscated by the government in the first quarter of the year worth at least P5.3 billion were cigarettes and cigarette production equipment, the Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines (IPOPHL) said. In a statementon Wednesday, IPOPHL said the value of the seized goods in the first three months of the year has already reached more than half of the total value of fake goods confiscated for the entire year in 2017, which reached P8.2 billion. Lacson sees implementation of national ID system this year

    The national ID system may be implemented this year after the bill proposing it hurdled bicameral conference, Senator Panfilo Lacson said on Wednesday. Lacson said the bicameral committee has agreed to adopt the Senate's version of the Philippine Identification System Act with minor amendments and suggestions from the House of Representatives. Under federalism, Congress may ask President to disclose documents on foreign loans

The Consultative Committee (Con-com) reviewing the 1987 Constitution has unanimously approved a provision granting Congress the power to request from the President documents involving foreign loans. This means that under the proposed federal Charter, the President must submit all pertinent documents relative to foreign loans upon request of either the Senate or the House of Representatives. The provision was part of the revision of Section 20 of the 1987 Constitution which provides that the President may contract or guarantee foreign loans on behalf of the country with prior concurrence of the Monetary Board. Intellectual property agency notes rise in seized fake goods

DOF: Gov’t cannot suspend fuel excise taxes under TRAIN

Intoxicated airline passenger arrested for peeing on seat, harassing 2 women

A 45-year-old man aboard a Frontier Airlines flight from Denver, Colorado, to Charleston, South Carolina, was arrested for groping a woman and publicly peeing on his seat.
