2018 Suzuki Cup: Philippine Azkals draw Indonesia, secure return to semifinals

The Philippine Men's National Football team secured a spot in the 2018 Suzuki Cup semifinals after managing a 0-0 draw against Indonesia, Sunday evening at the Gelora Bung Karno Stadium in Jakarta. The Azkals lost the services of skipper Phil Younghusband following a collision that left a cut on the Philippines' top goal-getter.  Attempts came often for the Azkals, courtesy of the likes of Stephan Schrock, Martin Steuble, and Manny Ott, but the Indonesian defense managed to hold their own at home.  In the end however, the result was enough to help the Azkals secure a spot back in the Suzuki Cup's final four after missing out on the chance back in 2016.  Defending champions Thailand had a hand in helping the Azkals through after blasting through Singapore, 3-0, in the other Group B pairing.  A Singapore win would have given them nine points and would have put them ahead of the Pinoy side provided that the Azkals left Jakarta with anything other than a win. The Azkals now meet Vietnam, the top seed in Group A. The 2008 champions finished with 10 points on three wins and one draw.  The first leg of the semifinals begins on December 2nd at the Panaad Park and Stadium in Bacolod. .....»»
