‘Deedee doted on people like the sun to flowers’
Lourdes “Deedee” Siytangco, who was a spokesperson for the late former President Corazon C. Aquino, passed away last 28 September. She was 83. Siytangco will not only be remembered as someone who spoke for Mrs. Aquino, but the many who knew her will never forget her sweetness, her thoughtfulness, her calm composure, and the bigness of her heart. Deedee loved to gather people — confreres at the Manila Bulletin where she wrote her column, “Angel Thoughts,” for many years; members of Bulong Pulungan, the media forum she co-founded which featured prominent personalities at its weekly meetings; the “Brat Pack,” members of the Malacañang Press Corps who covered the Palace during the Cory Aquino administration — at her home in Manila and around her table always laden with the most delicious of home-cooked food. She doted on people, and one person who particularly felt the warmth of her sweet personality was her friend and mentee, People Asia editor-in-chief and Philippine Star columnist Joanne Ray Ramirez, who said it so well when she described Deedee as someone akin to a “sunflower, her favorite flower.” In her eulogy during the wake for Deedee at Heritage Memorial Park, Ramirez said Deedee was “ like the sun who helped many bloom; she made those close to her feel special, her sunbeam kept us all together in its embrace.” The many who loved her grieve the loss of the light she beamed on everyone who came into her life, but are comforted by the fact that Deedee is now reunited with her beloved husband of 29 years, Sonny, who died in 2005. Farewell, Deedee, may you rest in peace and bliss in God’s embrace in paradise. The post ‘Deedee doted on people like the sun to flowers’ appeared first on Daily Tribune......»»
No idle hours at franchise-less but booming ABS-CBN
Content supplier ABS-CBN seems to be amply rewarding the stars and talents who have chosen to stay put with the company after it lost its broadcast franchise. The loyal ones are hardly without a project that keeps them busy and (hopefully) well-compensated for what they do best. These stars include Maricel Soriano, Angel Aquino, Kathryn Bernardo, Andrea Brillantes, JM Guzman, Belle Mariano and screen sweetheart Donnie Pangilinan, Chie Filomeno, Kaori Ozuma and Anthony Jennings. Actors, hosts, singers, record producers and comic talents who have stayed with the network remain “well-oiled” cogs in the ABS-CBN entertainment machine. With Cory Vidanes and Lauren Dyogi as the media company’s top honchos, as well as production divisions that conceptualize and execute projects from beginning to end (such as Dreamscape, JRB Creative Production, Project 8 and Rise), there are no idle hours in the ABS-CBN corporate offices and studios. There are also directors (such as FM Reyes, Emmanuel Palo, Richard Arellano and Jojo Saguin), creative managers (such as Carmi Raymundo and Jay Fernando) and musical scorers who get projects one after the other even if only on a contractual basis. Romantic leading men A change of mindset and attitude has occurred among the big stars. They have become really professional entertainment artists who have realized they don’t have to play lead roles all time. They remain adored and respected even when they portray vicious personalities who make life hard for the lead characters. They can then reemerge in their next projects as virtuous lead characters. Romantic leading men Ian Veneracion and JM de Guzman did contemptuous characters in the action series Iron Heart, topbilled by Richard Gutierrez, Jake Cuenca and Albert Martinez. The show is slated to end in two weeks (with major scenes shot in Japan though the series’ main setting is Cebu). De Guzman has just attended the media conference for the series Linlang (Deception), which he headlines along with Paulo Avelino and Kim Chiu. A major supporting actor in the new series that begins airing on 5 October is Maricel Soriano, whose “special participation” in the afternoon series Pira-pirasong Paraiso started only a few weeks ago. Soriano portrays a well-off grandmother in Pira-piraso and Linlang. Linlang is helmed by FM Reyes, who directed the ongoing ABS-CBN and TV 5 co-produced afternoon series Nag-aapoy na Damdamin. The new series is a suspense-thriller that will stream exclusively on Prime Video, available in the Philippines and in more than 240 countries and territories worldwide. Linlang has only 14 episodes, and new episodes drop every Thursday at midnight. Surely favorable to the finances of stars and talents is the invariably large cast of ABS-CBN series these days. For instance, Iron Heart features in major roles Albert Martinez, Dimples Romana, Christian Vasquez, Sofia Andres, and young actors Enzo Pineda, Louise Abuel (who is male) and Iggy Boy Flores. It has had as guest actors Maja Salvador, Sue Ramirez, Meryl Soriano, Maricel Laxa, Joem Bascon, Pepe Herrera, Roi Vinzon, Carmen Soo, Fabio Ide, Richard Quan, Ruby Ruiz, Anna Luna, Ruben Soriquez, Krystal Brimner, Cris Villanueva, Alex Medina, Anna Marin, child star Althea Ruedas, Al Tantay, Diether Ocampo, Karina Bautista, Victor Silayan, Kyle Echarri and Lou Yanong. The show also has four directors: Richard Arellano, Lester Pimentel Ong, Wang Yan Bin and Ian Loreños. As for Linlang, its support cast includes Karla Estrada, Jaime Fabregas, Raymond Bagatsing, Albie Casiño, Jake Ejercito, Heaven Peralejo, Adrian Lindayag, Race Matias, Benj Manalo, Lovely Abella, Frenchie Dy, Ross Pesigan, Hanna Lexie, Juno Advincula, Connie Virtucio, Lotlot Bustamante, Meann Espinosa, Danny Ramos, Bart Guingona, Vance Larena and Marc McMahon. ‘Senior High’ and ‘Fractured’: Youth is not wasted on these young stars
The shows Euphoria, Elite and 13 Reasons Why offer depictions of the so-called Generation Z that baffle, shock and titillate their audiences. The young people in these shows succumb to the call of their sexual urges, wantonly take prohibited drugs and drink themselves to catatonia. Raging hormones fuel their pursuit of YOLO (you only live once) moments and defiance of authority figures. That same sense of edgy, confused, tension-filled environment of sex and drugs are also in the local shows Senior High and Fractured, which follow the footsteps and narratives of their international counterparts in highlighting the many versions of truths and lies in the lives of their young characters. Central hook In Senior High, the stories of teenagers of different economic backgrounds in a private high school, their struggles with authority figures, and a big tragedy-mystery that needs to be resolved are the central anchor and hook. The made-for-TV campus that is Northford High looks and screams “mahal ang tuition.” Students are all in crispy Ivy League-inspired uniforms, and the typical school cliques are well- represented. What has been presented so far in the show’s 25 episodes are a tragic death, bullying, mental health, video scandals and online gossip accepted as gospel truth, homoeroticism, drugs, sexual predation and anger issues with parental and other authority figures. In the acting department, top-tier performances come from Andrea Brillantes, who plays the roles of twin sisters; JK Labajo, who brings a true rich-boy sophistication to his role; Elijah Canlas and Miggy Jimenez, both lending juicy and saucy touches to their juvenile delinquent characters; Kyle Echarri, exuding a becoming softness and knight-to-the rescue vibe; and Daniela Stranner, a delicious alpha mean girl. Among the authority figures, Angel Aquino, Mon Confiado, Anna Abad Santos and Baron Geisler -- in a career-defining performance – are superb. Senior High scratches the surface of teen troubles. As more episodes come, one hopes the problems of today’s youth get a more thorough dissection an a broader, more compassionate perspective. [caption id="attachment_191711" align="aligncenter" width="525"] The cast of ‘Fractured’[/caption] Trapped vloggers In Fractured, a group of popular, influential vloggers are invited to an is island resort to make content about it. The vloggers get their biggest plot twist when they are all marooned in what seems like a deserted part of the island resort. Aside from the elements, they have to contend with scarce food and water, the uncertainty of rescue and other looming dangers. Three episodes on, what makes Fractured an interesting watch is the deft manner by which the personal lives, problems, insecurities and dark sides of the vlogger characters are revealed. Since tensions among them are at an all-time high, catfights between femme vloggers erupt. Two of the macho vloggers assert alpha status, while a different and groovy kind of love blossoms between two male vloggers. Aside from the writing and glossy look of the show, the acting by Seth Fedelin, Francine Diaz, Kaori Oinuma, Daniela Stranner, Raven Rigor and Sean Tristan are also compelling come-ons. For all the chaos and darkness in Senior High and Fractured, we also witness real friendships forged by the young characters, love at its most romantic or bittersweet, and realizations and redemptions even. Youth is not wasted on the younger ones, after all. The post ‘Senior High’ and ‘Fractured’: Youth is not wasted on these young stars appeared first on Daily Tribune......»»
Andrea Brillantes can’t relate to the ‘boy talk’
In her latest vlog, Andrea ‘Blythe’ Brillantes takes her viewers to a behind-the-scenes look on the first-day shoot of her now buzzy series “Senior High”. It’s an interesting look at the technical business of filmmaking, where Blythe illustrates the complications of shooting and playing a dual role. She plays twins, Luna and Sky, in the series. Blythe takes to gently roasting her mom Belle Brillantes and Angel Aquino, who are having a conversation during a break. You can hear Angel Aquino in the background ask Blythe’s mom if she wants to marry again, to which Belle says she prefers an ‘Afam’ or a foreigner. Blythe, in a tongue-in-cheek tone, says she can’t relate to the boy talk because she’s all about the work now and earning the bucks. She revealed in the vlog that her mom is the real-life iteration of Angel Aquino's character, Tanya. Blythe's very public breakup with Ricci Rivero has been the subject of much talk. Make way for a new Atayde in showbiz: Gela, the younger sibling of Arjo and Ria
There are now five Ataydes in Pinoy showbiz, although two of them do not use the surname for their showbiz work. There used to be only two actor Ataydes: Arjo and Ria. A third one will be introduced on 28 August as an actor in the latest ABS-CBN series Senior High: Gela Atayde, who has just made a name for herself as part of a team that emerged world champion in an international hip-hop dancing competition in the US. So who are the two Ataydes who don’t go by that surname in showbiz? Sylvia Sanchez and Maine Mendoza. The former is the mother of Arjo, Ria and Gela, while Maine is the brand-new Mrs. Arjo Atayde. She married Arjo on 28 July in Baguio City. [caption id="attachment_175680" align="aligncenter" width="893"] Sylvia Sanchez And Maine Mendoza-atayde. | Photograph Courtesy of Ig/sylvia Sanchez[/caption] Businessman Art Atayde is the father of Sanchez’s actor children. They have another son, Xavi, the youngest in the family. There are no talks (yet?) about Xavi wanting to join showbiz. Sanchez having three children active in front of the camera may be matched by Pen Medina, who has four sons who are actors, too, though not as prominently as Sanchez’s children. Medina’s thespian sons are Ping, Karl, Alex and Victor. Ping now appears with his father Pen in ABS-CBN’s Batang Quiapo. Alex, Karl and Victor, meanwhile, have played major roles in indie films. We personally know that Pen also has a lovely grown-up daughter, but she is not interested to become an actor. (Pen and I had theater workshops in our youth conducted by Joonee Gamboa and the late Adul de Leon. It was in those workshops that Pen met the would-be mother of their children.) Further back, it’s actually actor Eddie Gutierrez who used to have three sons and one daughter in showbiz: Tonton Gutierrez, Ramon Christopher (who started in showbiz without using a surname), Ruffa Gutierrez, Richard Gutierrez and his twin Raymond Gutierrez. Just a few years ago, another female Gutierrez — Janine — joined showbiz. She is the daughter of Ramon Christopher, more popularly known as “Monching,” whose mom is the singer Pilita Corrales. Janine’s mother is actor Lotlot de Leon, one of the two adopted daughters of then-couple Nora Aunor and Christopher de Leon. Tonton is Eddie’s oldest child, and his mother is beauty queen-actress Liza Lorena. A few years after he had a son with Corrales, the elder Gutierrez married Annabelle Rama, and Ruffa is their first child and only daughter. They had another son, nicknamed Rocky, before they had the twins Richard and Raymond. World championship Gela Atayde has just gotten back from the World Hiphop Dance Championship in Phoenix, Arizona where her team, Legit Status, won the world championship on 6 August by beating 54 other teams. Gela, 21, speaks with as much overflowing self-confidence as her Kuya Arjo and Ate Ria. At her media launch in Morato, Quezon City a few days ago, Gela declared that she really likes to be recognized as a dancer and to be able to hone her acting career at the same time. “One of the big reasons why I really wanted to enter showbiz was to introduce dance. I guess as a dancer, I realized that it is not as appreciated as we hope it would be. So I guess for me since I was given the opportunity to do it, I want to explore and show everyone what dance is all about — not just hip-hop but maybe other styles so it can be talked about more often,” she said. Her first ABS-CBN project is the series Senior High, which will see her playing a campus dancer and acting alongside her mother Sylvia as well as young stars Andrea Brillantes and Kyle Echarri. The series, produced by Dreamscape Entertainment, replaces Iron Heart, topbilled by Richard Gutierrez. The upcoming show recently trended on social media as it featured SB19’s hit song “Bazinga.” Also in the show’s cast are Juan Karlos, Elijah Canlas, Zaijian Jaranilla, Xyriel Manabat, Daniela Stranner, Miggy Jimenez and Tommy Alejandrino, along with Angel Aquino, Baron Geisler and Mon Confiado. Senior High will be released on 28 August, 9:30 p.m. via the Kapamilya Channel, Kapamilya Online Live, JeepneyTV, A2Z and TV5. It will also stream on iWantTFC and on TFC. It’s a season of “revenge” entertainment at ABS-CBN. The just-concluded series Dirty Linen had a family avenging the death of their loved ones in the hands of a greedy well-off family, while the forthcoming film A Very Good Girl, starring internationally acclaimed actor Dolly de Leon and Kathryn Bernardo, is likewise powered by a revenge yarn. ‘Senior High’: Meet the future stars of Phl entertainment
The cast of the upcoming iWantTFC series Senior High stole the spotlight in Sunday’s episode of ASAP Natin ‘To. Andrea Brillantes and Kyle Echarri choreographed a rousing dance routine for the group to the tune of SB19’s number-one single, “Bazinga.” The youth-oriented show boasts a constellation of fresh talents that are set to become the stars of tomorrow. Alongside Brillantes and Echarri are Elijah Canlas (already a multi-award-winning actor), Juan Karlos, Zaijian Jaranilla, Xyriel Manabat, Daniela Stranner, Miggy Jimenez, Gela Atayde and Tommy Alejandrino. They get excellent support from the likes of Sylvia Sanchez, Angel Aquino, Baron Geisler and Mon Confiado. The series stars Brillantes in her triumphant return to primetime television. Dreamscape Entertainment released the official trailer for the show last Friday, offering a glimpse into a mystery-thriller that centers around twin sisters Sky and Luna, both played by Brillantes, and the young students of the upscale school Northford High. A sense of intrigue and anticipation is created by the characters’ intertwined stories as they try to make sense of the puzzling happenings at the school. The series, which premieres on 28 August immediately after The Iron Heart ends, has already received a lot of buzz on social media, in part because it incorporates SB19’s smash hit “Bazinga.” Viewers can watch Senior High on the Kapamilya Channel, Kapamilya Online Live, JeepneyTV, A2Z and TV5, or stream it on iWantTFC and TFC. ‘Dirty Linen’ down to its last 2 scorching weeks
Was Dolly de Leon invited to the final media conference on Wednesday afternoon, 16 August, for the ABS-CBN series Dirty Linen, but her schedule of local commitments prevented her from accepting the invite? Or did the production decide not to have her around because she would steal the limelight from all the show’s stars even without trying? [caption id="attachment_172737" align="aligncenter" width="843"] Dolly de Leon. | Photograph Courtesy Of Ig/Dolly De Leon.[/caption] The media huddle was held just two days after De Leon walked off with a Balanghai trophy as Best Supporting Actress at the Cinemalaya 2023 for her portrayal of a loving mother to a speech-deprived son in Iti Mapukpukaw, an Ilocano animated film which also won Best Picture in the festival. It was De Leon’s second Philippine award, but the first ever she received personally. The first one was from the Famas in a digital awards in 2021 for her work in Verdict. It was also for Best Supporting Actress, and the Best Actress winner then was Janine Gutierrez for Babae at Baril, which had also won for her Best Actress from the Urian of the critics group Manunuri ng Pelikulang Pilipino. Gutierrez topbills Dirty Linen. The death of Olivia, the mistress-household help character portrayed by De Leon in the grandiosely and glamorously ruthless series, is what ignited the intensely engaging revenge drama that is slated to end in two weeks. It was a special guest role De Leon breezed through soon after her breakthrough appearance in Triangle of Sadness, which landed her at the Cannes International Film Festival, unarguably the most prestigious film festival in the world. Her character’s death in Dirty Linen became a big deal only because it led to the killing of some other members of the household staff who had the bad luck of seeing Olivia’s corpse in the living room before it was dragged into a nearby pit. They were all servants of the Fierros, an evil wealthy family in some provincial town. The family is headed by fierce matriarch Doña Cielo (Tessie Tomas), with her only son Carlos (John Arcilla) and Carlos’ son Aidan (Zanjoe Marudo). Angel Aquino portrays Feliz, the unwanted and unhappy daughter of the Fieros, while Janice de Belen is Leona, the cold-blooded wife of Carlos and mother of their two children, one of whom is the daughter portrayed by young star Francine Diaz. Epy Quizon portrays Ador, the husband of Feliz whose desire to give her and their two children (Xyriel Manabat and Raven Rigor) a well-off life that could somehow match that of the Fierros led him to keeping a secret pornography business that Mila discovers and exposes during a party meant to honor Doña Cielo. Christian Bables plays a digital expert who can hack any digital system as part of the revenge plot. Changing the landscape De Leon was once quoted in an interview as saying that Dirty Linen is “changing the landscape of Philippine television.” Tomas, who was at the media huddle at Studio 10 of ABS-CBN, declared that Dirty Linen is the best show she has ever been. Though more famous in her younger years as a stand-up comedian who parodied weird well-off women, Tomas is indeed a veteran of TV shows in varying genres. Gutierrez did her best not to cry in gratefulness for the opportunity of topbilling what seems to be ABS-CBN’s most expensive drama series. The Fierro mansion is a triumph in opulent production design, since the location is not a residence but the refashioned clubhouse of Summit Point, a popular golf and country club in Lipa City, Batangas — a project of Sta. Lucia Land Inc. The show’s production designer is Nancy Arcega, who’s been at her work for over 30 years now. It’s hard to argue against claims that Dirty Linen is the best Filipino-produced drama series in the country so far. But for us, personally, it is so far the series that has the most sordid storyline and characters. Practically everyone is evil in varying degrees. And Pinoys love it, for better or for worse. ABS-CBN says the series has gone over a billion views since it was launched on several platforms in January this year. Almost all the major cast members of the series turned up at the media huddle. Only Jenica Garcia, Andrea del Rosario and Soliman Cruz were not there. The post ‘Dirty Linen’ down to its last 2 scorching weeks appeared first on Daily Tribune......»»
Congress earmarks funds NAIA infra projects
House Committee on Appropriations Vice-chairperson and Makati City Representative Luis Jose Angel Campos Jr. on Sunday announced that the Ninoy Aquino International Airport is set to receive some P2.8 billion for infrastructure projects. Campos disclosed that also included is the P1.2-billion budget for the acquisition of a new traffic management system following the New Year’s Day breakdown that disrupted hundreds of flights. He said that the P1.2 billion in the proposed 2024 budget was allocated for the communications, navigation, and surveillance-air traffic management system which seeks to improve the efficiency of the country’s main gateway. “We are counting on the new CNS-ATM system to optimize airspace and airport efficiency, reduce flight delays, and improve travel experience,” said Campos in a statement. “Our hopes are high that the new system, once installed and fully functional, could potentially increase airport capacity to accommodate more flights in the years ahead,” he added. The move comes as Department of Transportation Secretary Jaime Bautista in January cited the need for a backup system, as the current system in use estimated to be worth P13 billion — is already in its midlife. Last month, the National Economic and Development Authority Board chaired by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., opted to push through with plans to privatize NAIA through a solicited bid with the upfront payment cost now being studied and initially estimated at P30 billion. In June this year, the DoTr and the Manila International Airport Authority submitted a joint proposal to the NEDA Board seeking a private concession to invest and improve the NAIA for 15 years. The NEDA Board approved the 15-year concession period, with the option to renew for another 10 years based on a performance review, and should the two new airports — the New Manila International Airport in Bulacan and the Sangley International Airport in Cavite — be delayed. Before this, the Manila International Airport Consortium in April submitted an unsolicited proposal to take over NAIA, but this was deemed “de facto closed” when the government opted for a solicited bid. At present, NAIA’s terminals service over 40 million passengers versus its 32-million annual capacity, with 38 to 40 landings and takeoffs made per hour. ‘Royal Blood’ GMA 7’s answer to ABS-CBN’s ‘Dirty Linen’?
The Dingdong Dantes-topbilled new drama-thriller series Royal Blood must be GMA 7’s match-up with ABS-CBN’s long-airing Dirty Linen, bannered by Janine Gutierrez and the network’s seasoned stars John Arcilla, Janice de Belen, Joel Torre, Zanjoe Marudo, Tessie Tomas and Angel Aquino. Just like Dirty Linen, Royal Blood is about a wealthy and largely contemptuous but glamorous family — except for Napoy (Dantes), a widower and illegitimate son of the Royales family patriarch, Gustavo (Tirso Cruz III) who insists on having Napoy and his very young daughter Lizzie (child actress Sienna Stevens, a Filipina-New Zealander) stay with the family and live with his siblings who are all younger than he is. (Sidebar: Ramos is the flatmate for a year now of new Miss Universe Philippines Michelle Dee, who has announced that she is bisexual.) Kristoff’s wife is Diana (Megan Young, Mikael’s real-life wife), who was once Napoy’s girlfriend-great love. They have a son, Archie (Aidan Veneracion), who constantly seeks his father’s approval. Andrew (Dion Ignacio) is the ambitious and business-savvy husband of Margaret. Andrew has a rebellious son, Louie (James Graham) with his first wife. Royal Blood premieres on 19 June as a replacement for the romance series Hearts on Ice, topbilled by Xian Lim and Ashley Ortega. Royal Blood is helmed by Dominic Zapata, who also directed Hearts on Ice. The new series airs weeknights at 8:50 p.m. on GMA 7 and at 11:30 p.m. from Monday to Thursday and at 11 p.m. every Friday on GTV. Global Pinoys can also catch the program via GMA Pinoy TV. ‘Dirty Linen’ fancon in US And what is Dirty Linen up to these days? It’s prepping for a fan convention (fancon) in Sacramento, California on 24 June. The venue is the Memorial Auditorium in Sacramento, from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. The first-ever Kapamilya convention will feature performances by Dirty Linen cast members Zanjoe Marudo, Francine Diaz, Seth Fedelin, Janine Gutierrez and John Arcilla. [caption id="attachment_145501" align="aligncenter" width="525"] PHOTOGRAPH COURTESY OF ABS-CBN | ‘DIRTY Linen’ stars (from left) Seth Fedelin, Francine Diaz, Janine Gutierrez and Zanjoe Marudo.[/caption] Dirty Linen has consistently been in the top 10 shows in cable and satellite, and on iWantTFC in the US since its launch on January 23, 2023, according to content maker ABS-CBN. The fancon will feature a variety of games and activities for guests to participate in immersive exhibits where guests can experience the world of Dirty Linen, an exclusive sneak peek of new episodes and so much more. Tickets are available at Ticketmaster, or fans may call the box office at 916-808-5181 Mondays–Wednesdays from 12 noon to 5 p.m. The event is presented by World Remit and MX3. ‘Love at First read’ Now also airing on GMA 7 is the network’s second collaboration project with Wattpad Webtoon: LUV IS: Love at First Read. The series is bannered by one of the most sought-after Sparkle loveteams today, Mavy Legaspi and Kyline Alcantara, who play the lead roles of Kudos and Angelica/Abby. [caption id="attachment_145498" align="aligncenter" width="525"] PHOTOGRAPH COURTESY OF gma-7 | MAVY Legaspi and Kyline Alcantara in ‘Luv Is: Love At First Read.’[/caption] Love at First Read is based on the hit Wattpad webnovel with the same title, which has amassed 23.3 million reads. Written by “Chixnita” (a pseudonym), it follows the story of Kudos, a secret romantic searching for the perfect girl. He finds a diary and believes that its owner, Abby, is the one for him. However, he also meets Angelica, a jaded girl who distrusts men and has no interest in love. They clash at first but as they get to know one another, their feelings begin to grow. Kudos is soon torn between Angelica and Abby — not knowing that they are actually one and the same person. Completing the cast of the adaptation are Josh Ford as Train; Pam Prinster as Hazel; Bruce Roeland as Risk; Larkin Castor as Shield; Therese Malvar as Abigail; Mariel Pamintuan as Sandy; and Gabby and Kiel Gueco as the mysterious Psalm and Philemon, who are Kudos’ cousins. Also starring are engaging thespians Maricar de Mesa as Yumi, Abby’s mom; Jestoni Alarcon as Hector, Kudos’ dad; and Jackie Lou Blanco as Truly, Kudos’ mom. LUV IS: Love at First Read is directed by Mark Sicat dela Cruz with Carlo Cannu as associate director. It airs Mondays to Fridays at 5:40 p.m. on GMA-7. With Maria Regina M. Amigo as head writer, the writing pool is composed of Liberty L. Trinidad, Benjamin Benson A. Logronio and Loi Argel R. Nova. Happily, there is no mayhem or murder in Love at First Read.
