Bataan gov’t welcomes transshipment port proposal
Bataan is bidding to host the first-ever transshipment port in the country after the successful negotiation of the provincial government with a private infrastructure firm to undertake the multi-billion-peso project. Governor Jose Enrique S. Garcia, Freeport Area of Bataan Director Atty. Joey Angeles and officials of Premium Megastructures Inc. signed on Tuesday the Certificate of Successful Negotiations signaling the local government's acceptance of the proposed Bataan Transshipment Hub. PMI also received a Notice of Award from the provincial capitol to begin consultations with stakeholders, gather valuable input and undertake comprehensive studies in order to obtain the Notice to Proceed with the development of the BTH. “As PMI embarks on this ambitious journey to create the first future-ready transshipment hub in the Philippines, PMI extends its heartfelt gratitude to the Provincial Government of Bataan, the local government of Mariveles, and the people of Bataan for its trust in this collaborative project,” PMI said in a statement. PMI is committed to excellence, sustainability, and ethical practices in undertaking this project, the company added. PMI still has one hurdle to overcome before it can start the ball rolling for the ambitious project. “The next step will be the Swiss challenge,” Angeles said in a text message to this writer. Under the Swiss challenge, another company may submit a better proposal to the Bataan government which the original project proponent has to beat or countermatch to formally clinch the negotiated contract. No details of the BTH were given, but the PMI's website says the transshipment port "promises to usher in a new era of innovation and efficiency in the logistics industry, bringing about a much-needed transformation that will benefit businesses and consumers alike.” PMI also described the BTH as "a game-changer for the Philippine economy by introducing cutting-edge technology in bringing in larger import-export volumes, streamlining supply chains, improving market access, reducing trade barriers, and enhancing logistics infrastructure efficiency." A teaser video of the proposed BTH can be seen on the PMI website. It shows a sprawling containter terminal with several berths and equipped with gantry cranes. Bagunas: Go for sweep
National University great Bryan Bagunas urges the current Bulldogs to not only shoot for a three-peat but to complete a rare sweep of the University Athletic Association of the Philippines Season men’s volleyball tournament. The former league Most Valuable Player and star of NU’s last two titles is confident the still unbeaten NU squad has the right pieces to achieve the feat. Bagunas took time in his busy schedule to prepare for his wedding in June to drop by the Bulldogs’ game against University of the East last Saturday at the Mall of Asia Arena and he liked what he saw. “I’m really proud of this team,” the former alpha Bulldog said after witnessing NU’s straight sets crushing of UE for its 12th win in as many games. Bagunas, a veteran internationalist who just recently won the MVP honors in Taiwan’s Top League after leading WinStreak to the crown, during his five-year UAAP stint won two titles for the Bulldogs including the 2019 championship before the division went into a three-year pandemic hiatus. He, however, did not experience a season sweep which the current generation of NU players have a chance to realize. “I messaged my juniors now leading the team, especially those who are graduating to try to get that sweep,” he said. “They can give that historic feat to NU.” The then Marck Espejo-led Ateneo de Manila University back in Season 79 was the last men’s team to rule the contest unscathed. “Of course, winning the championship is the most important thing but completing a sweep of the season would be a big bonus to give back to NU,” Bagunas said. The Bulldogs have two more games remaining in the elimination round. If NU hurdles its last assignments it will clinch an outright best-of-three Finals seat and will have the luxury of long rest while three other teams duke it out in stepladder semifinals. But it won’t be an easy mission for the Bulldogs as they will be facing a dangerous second-running University of Santo Tomas side today at the FilOil EcoOil Centre in San Juan. NU wraps up its elims campaign on Saturday against Ateneo. The post Bagunas: Go for sweep appeared first on Daily Tribune......»»

Adamson s player development is priceless gift for coach Franz
Last year, Adamson University fell short of the Final Four for the first time under coach Franz Pumaren. Still, the multi-titled mentor's stint in San Marcelino remains a triumph as he had led them to three playoff berths in a row in his first three seasons there. Also, the Soaring Falcons had claimed their first-ever second-seed and twice-to-beat advantage under coach Franz. Even more than his overall 31-25 record, though, Pumaren is proudest about how they have discovered and then developed their players. "First of all, for me, my definition of college coach is you know how to develop players, you know how to bring the best out of the player," he shared to fellow coaches Charles Tiu, Paolo Layug, and Anton Altamirano in his appearance on Coaches Unfiltered. The brilliant tactician then went on to point out how Jerrick Ahanmisi, Adamson's longtime top gun, was actually a reject, in essence, of other schools and squads. "He tried out for several schools, but they didn't get him probably because he was not ready to play college here," he said. "Yung iba, they want yung ready na. But with Jerrick, when we saw him, he's still a project, but when he started practicing with us, we were able to develop him. The rest is history." The rest, indeed, is history as the 6-foot-1 sharpshooter has one Mythical selection as well as a whole lot of scoring outbursts to his name. Now, he enters his fifth and final year as, still, one of the best guards in all of college. "These are the priceless gifts they can give me," Coach Franz said. "We were able to recruit players who were maybe under the radar, players who weren't highly recruited, but we were able to develop them." After Ahanmisi, you need not look far to find another one of the Soaring Falcons' proud products of player development. "Who would recognize Jerom Lastimosa?" Pumaren mused, talking about their starting and rising point guard hailing from Dumaguete. He then continued, "He came from the province, a small school, but now, probably I can consider him in the top three, top four point guards this coming UAAP." With that, for next year, Adamson has a brand new project in its hands - a brand new project coming from uncharted territory for them. "We were able to get a player from Ateneo, the captain ball. Joaquin Jaymalin, 6-2 and I'm expecting him to grow an inch or two," their shot-caller said. He then continued, "He's been under the radar, but one thing's for sure, he can shoot. I think he's a welcome addition on our part and I'm confident we can develop him to be a better all-around player." --- Follow this writer on Twitter, @riegogogo......»»
