UP scores biggest recruitment get in 6-7 modern big man Carl Tamayo
Carl Tamayo will continue to have Pilipinas on his jersey. Only this time, he will be repping the University of the Philippines. In a bombshell, the Fighting Maroons announced Saturday morning that they have secured the services of the 6-foot-7 big man whose new-age skills have keyed Nazareth School of National University's back-to-back championships as well as Batang Gilas' contention in international play. Tamayo has the build to will his way inside, but the shooting touch as well to do damage from outside. At the other end, he stands strong while also having quick feet, capable and confident of defending both Kai Sotto and Forthsky Padrigao. In his last year in the Jrs., the proud Cebuano normed 11.6 points and 9.3 rebounds in the elimination round. Come the Finals, though, he turned it up a notch and had double-double averages of 19 points and 18 rebounds en route to the Finals MVP and, more importantly, a season sweep. Now, Tamayo is the biggest recruitment get for a State U side that, without a doubt, has come a long, long way from its so-called dark days. In just this offseason alone, he joins fellow rookie recruits Gerry Abadiano, Jancork Cabahug, RC Calimag, Sam Dowd, Ethan Kirkness, and Miguel Tan as well as transferees Joel Cagulangan and Malick Diouf. This will be the first time the modern big man will be away from Bullpups and Bulldogs mentor Goldwin Monteverde who discovered and developed him. --- Follow this writer on Twitter, @riegogogo......»»
