Trillanes, a free man for now: Makati court denies gov’t bid for his arrest

Senator Antonio Trillanes IV is still a free man after Makati City Regional Trial Court Branch 148 turned down the government's request for an arrest order against the senator on Monday.   In a 33-page ruling, RTC Judge Andres Soriano denied the petition of the Department of Justice (DOJ) but affirmed the validity of President Rodrigo Duterte's Proclamation No. 572.   At the same time, the lower court denied DOJ's motion for a hold departure order (HDO) against Trillanes.   Makati RTC Branch 148 dismissed the coup d'tat case in 2011 because Trillanes was granted amnesty for his role in the 2003 Oakwood mutiny by then President Benigno S. SC refers Trillanes case to Makati RTC

Taking notice of President Rodrigo Duterte's statement that Sen. Antonio Trillanes IV would not be jailed without a warrant, the Supreme Court on Tuesday declined to issue an order blocking the arrest of the government's fiercest critic in Congress. The Supreme Court also did not rule on the question of the legality of Proclamation No. 572, by which the President voided the amnesty given to Trillanes as a military rebel in 2011. The President's claims in the proclamation that Trillanes did not apply for amnesty and admit guilt in the military uprisings against President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo in 2003, 2006 and 2007 "appear to be factual in nature" so these have to be evaluated...Keep on reading: SC refers Trillanes case to Makati RTC.....»»
