‘Gulayan sa Paaralan’ launched
BAGUIO CITY — At least 150 schools in different areas of the Cordillera region were boosted by the Department of Agriculture-Cordillera’s “Gulayan sa Paaralan” project under the High-Value Crops Development Program. The project — which is a collaboration with the Department of Education-Cordillera — aims to provide the optimal supply of nutrition through the consumption of vegetables and fruits minimizing malnutrition of students. It also allows for a learning experience for students, increasing their knowledge and skills in fundamental agriculture and implying a more scientific view of the consumption of securely produced food. HVCDP coordinator for GPP Albert Jay Lab-oyan said the schools underwent the screening process of the DepEd based on their guidelines which were forwarded to the regional agriculture department for the allocation of P1.8 million worth of agriculture inputs for 2023. The provisions include upland and lowland seeds, cultivating tools, garden hoses and wheelbarrows. Of the 8 School Division Offices in the region, 20 schools were identified in Abra, 20 schools in Apayao, 16 schools in Benguet, 15 schools in Baguio City, 20 schools in Ifugao, 20 schools in Kalinga, 19 schools in Tabuk City and 20 schools in Mountain Province. Rose petals heal cancer patient
(Author’s Note: This story is based on the book “Mary Mediatrix of All Grace” by the late Rene C. de Jesus, published circa December 2015, now out of circulation.) Mrs. Julie Hughes-Sikora, born of an American father and a Filipino mother from Ormoc, Leyte, migrated to the US in 1941. In 1948, she returned to the Philippines for a visit. Curious about the many stories about the miraculous “shower of rose petals” in Lipa, Batangas, she went there on a pilgrimage. During a Sunday mass, a strong wind suddenly encircled the pilgrims. A shower of rose petals from the sky followed. Julie picked up two petals — fresh, light red, and almost translucent. Returning to Manila, she examined the petals and found nothing unusual. She inserted them in the pages of her prayer book. Later, she discovered that one of the petals had an image of Our Lady Mediatrix of All Grace and the other of Our Lady of Sorrows. She promised the Blessed Mother that when she returned to the US, she would promote the Marian devotion through the petals and a two-foot Mediatrix statue given to her by the Carmelite Sisters. In the summer of 1950, she spoke to the high school students of Our Lady of Good Counsel in Chicago. The Catholic Women’s League president forbade her to talk of the apparitions and the rose petals. Knowing that the petals were not a hoax, she knelt in tears and prayed, “Blessed Mother, please help me. You must convince the people that these are rose petals from heaven.” Her prayer was answered immediately. A Felician sister borrowed the petals for a sick sister, Sr. Mary Angela, who was dying of bladder cancer. In fact, Sr. Mary Angela had her coffin made. She later recounted that a smiling lady in white came out of the rose petals and floated on a cloud. Sr. Mary Angela fainted from the extreme pain of the cancer. Her surgery scars were gone when she woke up, and she was completely healed. Her urologist, Dr. Dooley, a non-Catholic, was shocked to discover that she was instantly cancer-free. He gave her a copy of her medical records as evidence of a miracle. Sr. Mary Angela lived for another 12 years. The news of her miraculous healing spread like wildfire across the world, silencing the many “doubting Thomases.” Many years later, Julie returned to Lipa to return the rose petals to the Carmelite sisters, who regarded them as Marian relics. Julie signed an affidavit of her testimony before the sala of Judge Harriet Demetriou on 5 October 1999. The Vatican’s Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith or CDF, tasked to investigate the Mediatrix apparitions, regarded them as a hoax and ordered the rose petals burned, the very evidence that proved the apparition. If the CDF had done a proper investigation, they would have seen the evidence of the miracles. But they decided “with finality” that the Mediatrix apparitions were a hoax based on a Pius XII decree, which was discovered recently to be INVALID and NON-EXISTENT because it was not registered in the Vatican’s Acta Apostolicae Sedis, which is required by Canon Law to make it binding and effective. So, the Vatican committed the blunder of all blunders by suppressing the Mediatrix apparition for 70 long years based on a non-existent Papal decree. They manipulated the results of the first investigation in 1951 by ordering six Filipino bishops to change their findings to “not of supernatural origin” under threat and intimidation. This was discovered only when one bishop, on his deathbed, admitted that he was forced to change their original decision of authentic apparition to a hoax. The rest of the other bishops followed. They have all passed away. The Vatican kept the non-existent decree secret, blaming instead Filipino Bishop Mariano Gaviola and Archbishop Emeritus Ramon Arguelles for “violating” Vatican orders. In fairness, some cardinals did not know about the invalid decree, believing all the while that the apparitions were really a hoax. We are now asking Pope Francis to rectify the errors of the Vatican and restore the Filipino clergy and Marian devotees in the name of the Virgin. The more it is suppressed, the more Marian miracles there are, increasing the fold of Marian devotees despite Vatican suppression. The Virgin prevails over the Vatican. eastwindreplyctr@gmail.com The post Rose petals heal cancer patient appeared first on Daily Tribune......»»
Benguet IPs shrug off mine pact
BAGUIO CITY — Fearing that their water sources, small-scale mining activities, livelihood, safety of the people and properties would greatly be at risk, the indigenous peoples of three areas in Itogon, Benguet turned away from the supposed signing of memorandum of agreement that could have resulted to the approval of a pending Application for Production Sharing Agreement by the Itogon-Suyoc Resources Inc. The IPs are residents of at least three sitios — Dalicno, Simpa and Lolita of Barangay Ampucao in the Municipality of Itogon, Benguet — and passed earlier a petition letter addressed to the National Commission on Indigenous Peoples and the Itogon Indigenous Peoples Organization. In the petition, the IPs claimed that their sitios were part of the areas inside the ancestral domain of Itogon that are affected by the APSA 103 of ISRI. Donalyn Basilio, who acted as spokesperson of the petitioners, said the three Ampucao sitios consisted of more than 2,000 individuals, adding that they will be at the losing end if the agreement will push through without proper negotiations. A majority of the Ampucao residents, particularly those whose households and properties were within the three sitios allegedly were insufficiently informed as the negotiations through general assemblies and meetings were inadequate. Recognizing the heightened vulnerability that comes with the onset of the typhoon season, Go emphasized the importance of preparedness and cooperation within communities. He urged citizens to stay informed about weather updates and heed the advice of local authorities to ensure their safety and that of their families. “Sa gitna ng panahon ng tag-ulan, nais ko po kayong paalalahanan na manatiling ligtas at handa sa anumang pagbabago ng panahon. Huwag kalimutang makinig sa mga abiso at paalala ng mga lokal na awtoridad. Ang ating kaligtasan ay nasa ating mga kamay,” he urged. As part of his commitment to ensure the welfare of Filipinos, Go also reminded the beneficiaries that there are six Malasakit Centers in the Cordillera Administrative Region if they require assistance to cover their medical expenses. Bontoc town bans pigs, pork products entry
BAGUIO CITY — The local government of Bontoc town in Mountain Province announced that it is temporarily banning the entry of hogs and pork products from the lowland municipalities amid reported cases of the African swine fever in other areas, particular in Cervantes, Ilocos Sur. In a public advisory, Bontoc Mayor Jerome Tudlong Jr. warned residents of the town to be aware of ASF cases logged in backyard farms of Cervantes and is said to be fast spreading in nearby areas. “To prevent further spread of this disease and to help protect the livelihood of our swine raisers against the re-infection of ASF in our municipality, the entry of live swine/pigs, pork, locally processed pork products and by-products from the said area is hereby temporarily suspended,” Tudlong said. To recall, the hog disease was earlier detected in a barangay in Cervantes last July this year, which prompted other towns of Ilocos Sur to safeguard their borders to ensure that no pigs or pork products can enter their areas of responsibility. On 24 July 2023, the provincial government of Benguet issued a temporary ban of entries of hogs and swine products from Cervantes. In the first week of August, Abra Province and Bauko, Mountain Province did the same. Checkpoints were setup in the boundaries of Ilocos Sur and nearby provinces. On 12 August, three hog traders were intercepted transporting 11 pigs from Cervantes. The post Bontoc town bans pigs, pork products entry appeared first on Daily Tribune......»»
Benguet council eyes calamity state
BAGUIO CITY — The Sangguniang Panlalawigan of Benguet on Tuesday said that it is mulling to declare a state of calamity in the province following the request of members of the Benguet Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Council. According to the PDRRMC, Benguet is one of the many provinces in Northern Luzon to experience damages to life and property caused by the wrath of super typhoon “Egay.” PDRRMC officer Abner Lawangen recommended the declaration of state of calamity during a meeting on Monday afternoon which was attended by the province’s top officials led by Governor Melchor Diclas and Vice Governor Ericson Felipe. The declaration means the implementation of price freeze over basic goods to ease the burden of the consumers. This is aside from the utilization of funds for the rehabilitation and other works destroyed by the calamity. Meanwhile, personnel from the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority are now in Kabayan, Benguet to assist in the water purification in the different barangays of the municipality. This is in response of the MMDA to the call of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and the Office of the Civil Defense to extend help to the areas affected by the recent super typhoon. To recall, the President vowed that aside from food and cash aides, safe water supply will be prioritized at the typhoon-stricken areas. MMDA personnel brought with them water purification equipment in coordination with the Kabayan Municipal DRRM and Municipal Health Services Office as they identified the areas in the municipality that needs potable water. Death toll from ‘Egay’ rises to six
The death toll from Typhoon Egay has risen to six, official figures showed Thursday, as the storm swept towards southeastern China. Egay battered the main island of Luzon on Wednesday, toppling trees, knocking out power, and forcing the evacuation of thousands of people from coastal communities. Strong winds and heavy rain pummelled the lightly populated Babuyan islands and northern provinces, triggering flooding and landslides. A mother and her three children were killed Wednesday morning when a landslide struck their house in Buguias municipality in the mountainous province of Benguet, local disaster official Satur Payangdo told AFP. Five other people in the house were rescued. That took the death toll to six after a woman was killed by a falling coconut tree in Isabela province and a 16-year-old boy was crushed to death by a landslide in Baguio city. Egay had been a super typhoon as it swept across the Pacific Ocean on Tuesday but weakened as it neared the Philippines. The storm is expected to weaken further as it moves across the South China Sea before making landfall in southeast China on Friday. While Egay will bypass Taiwan, heavy rains related to the typhoon led to the drowning death of a 57-year-old woman who was trapped with two others when a mountain river overflowed, the island's emergency operations center said. The rains also caused power outages in around 43,000 households, though most have been restored. The post Death toll from ‘Egay’ rises to six appeared first on Daily Tribune......»»
